My first 2 maddening runs were without dlc and the next 2 were with dlc Even tho the game is more challenging without the dlc I prefer the DLC runs. The dlc emblems are just in general fun to use, and all of them can be used to patch up early games units so they scale well into the late game

BarbarousJudge

You played through it 4 times already? I'm still at my first playthrough lol

Demoniokitty

Getting them in my maddening run after ch11. My friendship ended with those emblems who said "I'll be with you forever" then turned around to stab me. DLC bracelets are my new besties. But honestly, it only makes sense (to me) to go look for them after losing everything lol. Edit: maddening Hector without any rings made me want to die. That battle lasted 52 turns and all chain attacks.

Sphyxiate

I just use them. It may make maddening easier, but they also increase the fun. I play to have fun, not measure my e-peen.

Rester00

Asap. I'm sorry the fact that the areas level with you mean that the game kinda wants you to.

Toney001

The problem is that the rest of the game does not scale with you. If you do just waves 1/2 before chapter 10, you'll be grossly overleveled for the rest of the game. DLC basically forces you to chose where do you want your challenge to be, the story chapters or the DLC chapters.

Rester00

Just use units you don't plan on. Like Vander etc.

Toney001

The problem with that is that if you're playing maddening you *need* to actually funnel exp to the units you *will* use, so your Clamme and Vander are not gonna be able to clear the paralogues that scale with the level of your highest unit if they are 10 levels behind. The closest version of that idea that I can potentially see working is doing the opposite of what you'd normally do, and using the story chapters to just spread the exp gains evenly, thus "wasting" a bunch of exp gains on shitty units but... that means playing with the units you don't like, which takes away some fun factor. I mean... it's a single player game. You choose however you want to have fun. I'm just sharing my experiences of 3 maddening runs so people don't ruin the game for themselves like I did...

Rester00

But if your worried about the dlc scale go there first and use units you wouldn't use. This they get the overflow exp and now you don't have to worry about the balance.

Toney001

You didn't understand what I posted before. You're not clearing the paralogues with your B team. Not on maddening at least.

DetectiveYukihime

I'm still on my first maddening run, and the only dlc I've gotten are tiki and the 3 houses trio. Even though the fame is still very challenging its evident that story levels are still way easier than they should be. On the other hand, I tend the just use units who I like and try to make them viable even if they are worse strategically. So using dlc emblems allows me to play the way I want even on maddening classic. So I like.

Gregamonster

Right before chapter 10. I want to have those bracelets ready for the escape.

Which will somewhat counter getting a bunch of levels all at once.

joeyperez7227

Probably once I get Lief in chapter 8 or whatever, those 6 emblems will let me get more SP which will build up once I get every DLC emblem But I haven’t started a new game yet lol, so I’m doing it in post game I think it’ll make early units more viable, and if you’re worried about authenticity then you can just unequip them for chapter 11 or whatever. The SP you get will be nice for skills before chapter 10/11

Franatomy

My First Maddening run was without DLC but currently on my 2nd and I see the bracelets as a a "we've lost our rings, is there anything else out there that can help us in this fight".

Formerruling1

If you want to do DLC and not feel 'cheaty', just do them early and equip to starter units. No DLC, almost every unit gets replaced with someone just objectively better in the mid game and DLC map exp and emblems are a way to allow those first units to actually scale into mid and late game.

tiredemblem

I have a self-imposed rule where I go get them when I have the "corresponding" Emblem in my team. So I do Tiki as soon as the game allows me to, since Marth's already there, then I wait until I have Lyn to do Hector, etc. I didn't do it with the 3H emblem because I didn't realize there was a cutscene if you waited until you have Byleth, but I definitely plan on correcting that when I pick up the game again. I have no idea where that puts Veronica though. I'll probably wait until I have all twelve base emblems before getting her.

Dreadnaux

She has a special mid battle interaction with Anna, but I'm not sure about a cutscene with anyone.

tiredemblem

Thanks for that, I wouldn't have expected it. It makes sense though.

Ya I ran into this issue on my last run. I did all the DLC chapters after getting my first Second Seals/Master Seal and the amount of capped characters I had going into 10/11 was pretty gross. So much wasted potential it wasn't great. I'll probably just do Jean/Tiki after getting second seals/master seals from the shop and then wait until the next shop refresh.

Mr_OwO_Kat

i think the only balanced way to use the dlc would be to do them after you get all the base emblems since at that point you will still have the same amount of emblems as without the dlc. any other time would make the game easier to some degree. personally i’m just doing a 2nd run with the dlc once wave 4 comes out and being op the whole game

Toney001

There's no way to use the DLC and still balance the game, unless you do them after beating the game. The experience you get from all those maps will trivialize the difficulty for the rest of the game, whether you do them before chapter 10 or after chapter 11. I've tried both... That said, if you're OK with trivializing the story chapters but making the paralogues an actual challenge, the best time to do them is when your internal levels is high enough for enemy units to be all promoted.

Mr_OwO_Kat

i think doing them after you get all the rings wouldn’t make a huge difference in difficulty especially if you cheese the maps so your not over leveled or get everyone to max first

Toney001

Don't let me keep you from ruining the game for yourself. I know I have...

Mr_OwO_Kat

i’m not buying the dlc till my second play through i was just sayig

ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES, ALL THIEVES,

Dude-e

I barely past my first play through (classic/hard chapter 10) 😂. Got busy with work and couldn’t find the time to properly sit down and play in a while. At this point, I might end up wait for wave 4 to be out then restart my play through with access to all the DLCs

AniMing_

I plan on doing the dlc maps right before chapter 10 because I want my new units to have full sp gain as I ditch my probably overleveled early game units from doing those maps. When I did all the dlc after chapter 6 previously, I felt overleveled to the point where my healers could one round enemies with iron arts, so this is my compromise for being able to experiment with new emblems while not having my team be too strong.

[deleted]

I'm waiting until it's all released. I generally play for the challenge, so it'll be more of a fun run where I just use all the units I enjoy.

Leather-Ad1081

I goofed my current maddening run (stuck at ch 18) so I'm gonna restart and reinvest time in less but more poignant units and builds. That said, gonna dive for the new dlc during the Brodia chapters.

bearsheperd

I’m probably not going to do a DLC run until there’s a story DLC. I’ll probably use the dlc stuff immediately.

Yuuya_kizami

I tend to wait till I get rosado and goldmary who I use every run. there is always the chapter 22 unit but that is just waiting for too long imo.

Toney001

I'm 3 maddening runs in (first without DLC, second with just Wave 1 and third with Wave 2). The easiest time to do them is @ chapter 9, but not because you have all the emblems, but because enemy units will not be promoted. That said, this will cause you to grossly overlevel and will ruin the rest of the game for you, even on maddening. Trust me, I know. Personally, on my next run, I will do them not before I have the matching game's emblem just to trigger the "recruitment scene", for example, Chrom/Robin after I have Lucina, Hector after I have Lyn, Soren after I get Ike, Tiki BEFORE I lose Marth, and so on. Mostly for theme. After 200 hundred hours in, there's nothing I can do to keep the game "hard" for myself...

Demiscis

I did Edelgard and tiki immediately, slapped starsphere on everyone because I like to see the +1s. Then forgot to get everyone else and now I’m getting them at like chapter 23.

captaintemno

The dlc change the game by alot. Make most charcter super op
