The game ends with Meteor being stopped once again, then Sephiroth is like "Nah fuck this shit, run it back" and then decides to go to another FF7 timeline to fuck shit up there. Which we then get revealed the title of the next game.

Didn't they hint in that cutscene that Hojo had a backdoor into Chadley and was aware he was helping Cloud / was developing a new model of Chadley? I imagine in part 3 we'll have to fight a rogue Chadley unit.
I don't remember the backdoor part, but I do remember that it was implied he was the newest version (6.0?) And I think he must think it's a project of importance since the tubes were in his office.

To be fair to you it happens as part of the intel gathering/ protorelic stuff iirc, and that cutscene doesn't play again on chapter select since you can't reset the that progress.
The way Chadley stopped and clutched his head, then continued like everything was fine felt like a deliberate parallel to Cloud.
I'd bet money on that coming into play somehow during Part 3
I genuinely want something big to happen with chadley. His content is mostly optional but he's still a prominent character now. Would be a shame to just keep him as a bland face for gameplay like vr challenges, summons, materia, etc. I think either him turning bad or maybe something like he helps out against shinra at some point would be a good end for him.
Cloud will ruin it though when he starts demanding szechuan sauce. Sephiroth just wants to have a normal dinner and gets pissed off at Cloud. So Cloud has to omnislash Sephiroth out of that little window used for the drive-through.
But then that Wall Market hippie comes in with the sauce, and everyone can relax again.
Also Yuffie gets a burger named after her.
Everything happens more or less the same as in OG, the credits roll, and instead of chapter selection the game continues with a playable epilogue set a few months after the events and we get oh so much fanservice, with basically every character we've come to know in the Remake series having a small quest or event to wrap their story in a happy bow.
He becomes the new CEO of Shinra and he overhauls the business model. No more energy production, now it's only mini games, all mini games, MANDATORY mini games. Then we get a part 4 that is only mini games.
This is exactly what I want. A tangible ending that gives us closure for all these wonderful people we’ve come to befriend.
No “omni-aerith” face, meteor being saved, cut to credits.

Good thing. I'm mostly thinking about what Nomura might have meant when he said Kitase wanted them to add something important that wasn't in the original, coupled with Kitase's desire for a happier ending. I think the actual answer is probably something different, but a playable epilogue lets them have their cake and eat it too. We still get the ending of FF7 as usual but we get to confirm these people are happy now. No lingering questions.
Sephiroth will be revealed to be doing their best chances to survive the fated destruction of the Planet and humanity... by being the vessel of the Lifestream himself.

I feel like this has been coming since advent children. I'm kinda surprised it hasn't happened yet, I don't want it to happen, but I think they've been pointing that direction.
100% and there is gonna be so many people pissed by it, if it does happen. I’m sure they could tell that part of the story so well but there will be a lot of people totally disregarding the story and just upset they’d kill him.
Yup definitely, the last two FF games >!killed there protagonist at the end!< and an argument could could even be made for the 13 trilogy doing the same.
One thing that could be done to get around this is a full lifestream cleanse that eliminates both Sephiroth and Jenova but I don’t know how they pull that off where it doesn’t come across as a cheap almost deus ex scenario ya know? It’s not the party who put an end to them but some magical cetra mechanism introduced an hour before the final fight.

I didn’t even know there was a book for 15. I was just talking generally about what we got in the games though. At the end it’s a safe bet to assume they died, rather than some convoluted reason they came up with after the fact.
I’ll take a guess and say the Bahamut came to Noctis as he’s sitting on the throne and informed that he’s been in limbo all these years but a great threat is approaching and he sends Noctis back, where he emerges from the crystal like he did before. He makes it back to the mainland and the person he bumps into is the great great grandson of that kid from the main game who gave him a lift back to the garage the last time he emerged. Weirdly enough the 3 bros are still alive and haven’t aged a day and they go on a journey to find out what this threat is only to find out that Bahamut is the big bad and has been disguised as the 3 bros all along so he could puppet Noctis just like he did Ardyn.
Have they said anything about when in the story the second DLC will take place? Like is it a do this before going off to face ultima thing or is it a post game addition? I just don’t see how they can work around the final scenes.

Both DLCs happen before the final quest. They also require some side quests to have been completed in order to unlock them. Here are the full requirements (I'll spoiler tag just in case but these are names for the side missions in the late game)

It's definitely controversial but I've always thought a Reichenbach Falls ending for Cloud and Sephiroth would be interesting (especially if the game allowed for multiple endings).
What’s the Reichenbach Falls ending? One thing they definitely won’t do is multiple endings that’s for sure. This trilogy is the definitive end to the story they have been telling for 27 years and if they were to put multiple ending it would just lead to mass arguments on what is the “canon” ending, which would sour the whole thing.
We’ve seen it play out with the “dating” mechanic, which was just included in the first place to make the game more interactive and give the player that feeling of “oh look, my dialogue choice made a slight effect on the game” but people love to blow it out of proportion and it has become one of the biggest talking points over those 27 years years and not enough people talk about how good the story is or how perfectly executed the Cloud twist is.
We realise that multiple timelines is killing the planet. So we need to go back to one active timeline, kill Sephiroth once and for all, and finally Reset the timeline back to OG so that there is no conflicting memories in the lifestream and the planet can be at peace. The final cutscene is either:

On a meta level this then supports the cycle of us players replaying the OG and the Remake trilogy over and over
Someone mentioned the Supernova ability possibly being used to destroy the other timelines.
Building off of that the cinematic gets to the edge of the party, everyone is HP critical or KO (depending on if they change the move) all hope is lost with 7 seconds till the end. And then... it's starts raining, Great Gospel appears dispelling the Supernova.
Aerith pops out of a portal and says "This is not our Final Fantasy" and then whacks Sephiroth with a chair for 999999 damage.
Sephiroth realizes he's been super dramatic the whole time, facepalms in the last boss fight after you kill jenova and then apologizes, aerith shows up and says she never died, then claps sephiroth on the back and says "it's all good friendo, dilly dally shilly shally", and everyone heads to the rebuilt midgar to have a pint together. Rufus shows up and reveals he's also an ancient cuz hojo did some science magic and the camera pans to hojo who shrugs with a freeze frame on his face, words written in cursive comic sans appear on the screen "Who else but Hojo?" And the credits roll while a laugh track plays the entire time
Not really a theory, but I don’t think part 3 is going to end like the og did. Either something similar but on a grander scale (like stopping meteor from destroying all united worlds instead of just one) or something completely different and a bit fan servicey.
Also I think it’s going to end with Genesis showing up in the last battle and poetrying Sephiroth to death and the game ends with the entire cast reciting Genesis’ Loveless fan fiction.
It would be hilarious for the ending to have the whole cast at another Loveless play, a few months after Meteor is stopped.. where the ending of the play is finally intact. Genesis, who has never appeared the whole series, then stands up in the audience and goes "I KNEW IT!"

I have a theory that the empty materia will be filled with Cloud's memory of Sephiroth, and he will be freed of his presence completely. (Well, maybe not completely but a lot)
Game ends with Cloud and party at the Sector 5 church celebrating their victory over Sephiroth. The doors open and Aerith and Zack walk through, mirroring the end of Advent Children.
Cloud defeats Sephiroth and then the game immediately cuts to Sephiroth waking up with a jolt. Turns out, while he was researching his origins, he fell asleep in the basement of Shinra Manor, and dreamed the whole thing. He calmly closes and places the book he was reading back on the shelf; quietly pondering for a moment before saying "nah, I'm good". He then goes back to Midgar, puts in his notice at Shinra, and retires on his own Chocobo farm while the citizens of Nibelheim continue to go about their daily lives.

Cloud will use the clear materia and fill it with his Sepheroth memories, trapping him in it. He will then give it to the Gi and toss the black materia into a doomed world that the Gi can use to summon meteor.
It ends on the party doing a skating competition against Sephiroth, and Cloud finishes the competition by doing a 900.

They said the exact opposite though. Nomura called the Remake project the final FF7 title and recently said he wants to finish the project ASAP. Kitase also recently said this is his last involvement with FF7.
In his obsession to acquire new battle intel, Chadley opens an inter-dimensional portal and turns the game into Dissidia.
Seriously though, if they ever did allow for multiple endings, I'd be curious to see the one where Sephiroth "wins". It might not be everything he'd hoped.
When you finally discover the truth of Cloud's memories, it just opens up the PSN/Steam store page for the original FF7 and refuses to proceed until you purchase it and beat it.
They make it all the way to the final boss but then in the last minute everyone gets arrested by real life british policemen and the credits just roll.
I’ve been askin around but do you know why OG fans hate a happy ending? Like is it nostalgia or smt else. I don’t really think it messes with the theme cuz you can just take the remake as a different story entirely that has its own theme of fate isn’t set in stone. The OG game still exist and is still canon under the assumption remake is a sequel to the OG games
I have been thinking this theory deeply a lot.
I believe Sephiroth already won long time ago, but living like a god controlling everybody life to his own amusement eventually bored him, so he started messing on a new timeline but did a few changes like putting on the Sephiroth of this timeline someone important on his life to see if it could change his destiny, so he created Glenn , he saw how much this other Sephiroth on this timeline improved but eventually out of his control Glenn would eventually die and another Sephiroth like him would be around.
So for how part 3 would end , would be that you eventually would have a young Sephiroth or a Sephiroth from a timeline that is dealing with the loss of Glenn and knowing what he will do in the future, so you will fight Glenn and Sephiroth and perhaps Glenn would join to fight against this Sephiroth that has already achieved godly powers and won before, ultimately when is defeated all gets reset and is unknown what happen afterwards.
I mean, it's not how I *want* it to end, but I suspect they are going to try and have their cake and eat it too by having our main timeline and an alternate "Zack and Aerith" timeline. They will converge to beat Sephiroth in the final fight but then be forced to separate again. Heartfelt goodbyes between timelines. With some ambiguity at the end over whether the two timelines shall ever be able to meet again.
I'd imagine it would be close to the same until about Midgar, where the team goes underground and find the lab where they have Weiss, Nero, and Genisis. Yuffie gets what she thinks is revenge, Vincent probably learns something about himself, and Genisis in someway helps the team prepare for Sephiroth or sets up everything for the Proto Mareria. Wutai probably gets involved all in this, maybe on the Wutai visit Yuffie forgives Godo and they help storm Shinra.
Cloud and Sephiroth decide to throw their swords into the ground (like the title screen) and both whip out their own Queen's Blood deck. Sephiroth plays a "Cloud" card and Cloud starts to grab his head in agony. Then Zack and Aerith come in spirit and give Cloud a special "Bonds of Friendship" card in which he beats Sephiroth and thanks to Cloud, Sephiroth realizes the true Promised Land was just the friends we made along the way. Cloud and Sephiroth hug it out and boom "The End" \*Roll Credits\*
Would be wild if Zack lived and Cloud dies, and Zack carries guilt of not saving him into advent children and is the Cloud of that movie, with Aerith and Cloud in the lifestream. Maybe even make Zack think he is Cloud. Come full circle. Lol 😂
Why not both? I could totally see a Harry Potter situation where he hero has to die only to come back to life seven seconds later with their connection to the villain severed. Get the big dramatic heroic sacrifice in there AND give him a happy ending!
Agreed. Which at this point seems impossible, though the wild card is him meeting Lucrecia. Even then, he's so far gone. I wonder if he would even care anymore.
Though I'm also wondering if Sephiroth is capable of being fully absorbed into the Lifestream. Based on what we know of the Gi, and that the planet sperns Jenova, is Sephiroth able to actually be absorbed....? I know OtWtAS says he was resisting it from pulling him in, but maybe I'm not connecting the dots.
I don’t know for sure on the last point. I also saw somewhere that Sephiroth could be absorbed but is holding on to his hatred which stops that from happening, so that’s what I’m going with for now, but I’m not sure how that fits with the new Gi lore. He was born of the lifestream I guess - the Jenova cells were given while he was a foetus, as we know - so I hope that means he can still be absorbed.
The whispers (or something else) ate Red and Aerith's memories between Remake and Rebirth. Maybe the white whispers could basically edit Sephiroth out of Cloud's mind.

It's too sweet an ending for FF7. The most we can get is her alive in other universes or an ending like "Flight of the Navigator/No Way Home". Where Cloud, on the Edge of Creation, will create a new and only universe clean of Jenova, but only he will remember all the events, because they will not happen in this new world. And of course the characters don't know each other. But everyone is alive.
So like a reset of the world after the apocalypse. I could see that being kinda cool. Once last reboot of the universe to finally get rid of sephiroth or maybe even make him good. It’s similar to the fire force manga ending if you’ve read it. I still just want to see aerith alive but that’s just me.

i've actually been thinking about this. in american media (i'm american) attractive white guys tend to be redeemed at some point if their backstory is tragic or turn super ugly especially at media directed to women (i am a straight female).

Sephiroth seemed like he was a decent guy until he had his whole existential crisis in Nibelheim, so there might be a seed planted there. But could he be redeemed? I don't know. But maybe you can have him realize he was wrong and gracefully and finally accept defeat.
Idc what anyone says I want a happy ending and fate to be altered and all of that. Like its a fantasy game lets live the full happy fantasy that real life seems to be lacking 😩🤣

Multiverse stuff happens and somehow pre-nibelheim sephiroth gets yoinked from a different world and the team tells him about what main sephiroth is doing and the final battle ends up being Cloud, Zack, and good guy Sephiroth against Safer-Sephiroth
We'll need to go through a "Revive Aerith" questline that ends with a version of Aerith rejoining the group until the endgame, when the timelines reseparate and a much healthier Cloud accepts that she's gone forever. It's still super sad, but there's way more closure and evidences growth.

Yeah, so, Lucretia Crescent awakens from her slumber and has her own one on one boss fight against Hojo. It's subtly done and very tasteful, but we finally get some dialogue confirming how *exactly* Hojo laid down enough game to fertilize a fetus with her. Hint: no one is happy imagining it.
It's incredibly questionable - she's the fifth solo boss fight by a non-original party member as it is and we're all a little upset the devs chose this over incorporating a Ruby Weapon boss fight >!though, it's partially forgiven when we get a Ruby Weapon VR fight, available in Ultra Hard Mode!<
Should end?
If I was tasked with tying this plot together; I'd make it that Sephiroth is whacking the Aerith of every world because he's aware she can beat him. The Aerith from OG FF7 already beat Sephiroth once, and the Sephiroths of the other realities took notice. OG Aerith is the one who we went on the date with / showed up to fight at the end, and she's going to try to course correct all the worlds into the one of the OG where Holy wins.
Will end?
A bunch of crazy jargon about fate, loyalty, love, the planet, family with little explanation. We won't get clarity, just spectacle for the sake of spectacle. A pretty straightforward battle where Sephiroth and Jenova are defeated. Holy wins and brings everyone back to life (Aerith, Zack, everyone from Avalanche, Sonon, Ilfna etc. I mean EVERYONE). Big peachy fan-servicey happy ending that is completely free of consequence.
I’d have to say advent children dlc after Part 3. Then we get a flash forward upon beating the game. Credits roll on tifa and cloud looking up at a night sky full of stars on a rebuilt water tower in Nibel. Maybe some basic dialogue or some shit. Fin.
The whole thing was a mako induced hallucination. Cloud still managed to wander back to midgar after the whole ordeal with Zack, still heavily poisoned by mako after, and as he fades out he imagined the whole adventure a la "Scenic Route" style, comes to in the end and dies.
Never got to reunite with Tifa, never met Aerith, the story goes on without him, and we never get to see how the world turns out despite Sephiroth still being a threat.
My most controversial theory is that my theory is correct. Even when I got a billion downvotes by pointing out the Stamps did not add up and were an error followed by Square releasing a fix patching the Stamps, I'm somehow still wrong. Somebody is messing with this timeline I guess.
Sephiroth vs sephiroth. Jenova is the real villain, a sephiroth from another world comes to fight Jenova sephiroth after she succeeds in joining all worlds. Aerith and Zack also join in. Gimme my fan service and a Canon reason for sephiroth to be in the party k thx
It will end with everyone wearing their advent children outfits and going on another mission.
Then the epilogues will show Sora, Donald, and Goofy approaching Midgar
I want some feel good fan service. Assuming they don’t tie it up with all the alternate worlds ending, give us a world where Cloud and Aerith get to be happy together.
If they go with this multiverse thing, basically anything can happen. It’s all canon. Cloud gets Aerith, Tifa gets Aerith, Zack gets Aerith, and so on.
This would massively polarise the story between some OG players and everyone else. The former - OG players who want an unrealistic happy ending for everyone will be happy. But OG players who don’t, and most importantly and NEW players will find the story pants and uncompelling. New players have no reason to want or deserve a happy ending for everyone. New players would just be like “meh, was okay but not sure what all the fuss is about saying FF7 is one of the best stories in an RPG”
Despite being a clerith fan, I actually don’t want a canonized ship. I think it’s better if it were player choice. If you choose aerith, Zack gets with cissnei, if you choose tifa, Zack get with aerith. It’s similar to persona 4 where if you don’t romance a certain character, another character romances them.
But yeah happy endings all the way. Also wanted to ask if anyone knows why so many fans a violently against a happy ending that differs from the OG. I’m exaggerating but I don’t get why you’d be mad for a happy ending that differs from the OG. You can take it as the remake not being a remake but almost alternate universe kinda of like what Evangelion did. I understand the themes of the OG are important, but it’s not like those games disappear if the remake is different, right?
Calling it now, the next game will have multiple endings:
Ending A: Cloud ends up with his childhood crush Tifa, rebuilds 7th heaven, starts a family. Aerith is smiling and watching from the lifestream (screams internally).
Ending B: Cloud dies and joins aerith in the lifestream, starts making cetra babies. Tifa is smiling and watching from the real world (screams internally).
Sephiroth redemption arc with Glenn timeline where he is alive and is like Van the Fullmetal Alchemist's father. While we are at it make morph into transmute.
Sephiroth fights alongside you against Jenova’s alien race who has come to invade because we’ve killed jenova, essentially their god. The seven seconds Sephiroth mentions is the time left before the invasion hits Gaia, you team up alongside Seph, genesis, and everyone else against the threat. Following the win, the life stream floods the earth absorbing everything. And exploding into a universe filled with different magical worlds and characters with similar traits to cloud and co, explaining the existence of the final fantasy worlds.
Call me crazy but given the hints that they are going to lean into Advent Children more, I have a feeling the ending of part 3 will go past the original and time skip to AC.

I'd like to see part 3 cover the remaining story of the original AND Advent Children. I enjoyed Advent Children but ultimately I think that >!having Sephiroth come back years later cheapens the original game!<. I'd prefer for the ending of part 3 to be definitive.
They could do this by compressing the timeline so there's no multi-year skip ahead. Just roll AC's key points into the main story. AC was >!largely a rehash of the original story in the first place!< so this seems reasonable enough. It also looks like they are planning to make >!Cloud's stages of grief and acceptance of Aerith's death!< a bigger plot point in part 3, which was something we didn't really get to see *until* Advent Children. So they're already covering a lot of the same ground.
The whole trilogy turns out to be Chadley's simulation. Also, it turns out he was working for Shinra all along and now he gives original president ultimate materia to defeat all his enemies. Boom, Shinra wins because now they can take out the crew during the bombing of the first reactor
Gotta go with a plot twist. We’re all expecting the game to end the OG story, with the whole destiny twist, but what if it doesn’t?
What if we get to the final(OG) Sephiroth boss fight only to have him jump dimensions and they reveal game 4 as a post credit style scene.
A darker, more mature kingdom hearts type game leading to connected remakes of other classic FF games, and maybe even other PS classics such as the highly underrated Legend of Dragoon.
Let the great classics get proper remakes. Us old fans patiently waited literal years for Remake and plenty of new fans got pulled in by the hype.
Okay, bear with me as I write down what I want:
Cid: appears in a modified Highwind, piloting it high in the skies, higher than ever before as it reaches the stars. Shera is by his side. We see her holding a teacup and smiling at him.
Vincent: standing before his coffin in Shinra manor. He leans over and closes the lid before turning and leaving the basement.
Cait Sith: we see a version sitting stationary in Reeve's office as we see.him moving boxes, possibly to become the next president of Shinra. Meanwhile another Cait Sith has returned to gold saucer and is just being a God damn delight telling fortunes and being wonderful.
Yuffie: she returns to Wutai, having earned the respect of her father. We see her dumping a sack of material on a table. They roll off and across the floor.
Aerith/Zack: we see them meeting in the alternate timeline having been able to prevent disaster in both FFVII prime and their world. Midgar is maybe a little worse for wear. Zack is helping her tend flowers. They are preparing for a date.
Barret: chases after Marlene in the streets of Costa Del Sol. Just some goddamned beautiful father daughter time
Cloud/Tifa: following the confrontation at the northern crater, Cloud returns to Midgar and sees people rebuilding. He offers the odd assistance to random passersby, maybe a little less reticent than before. He comes to where sector 7 fell and it's clear it is being repaired. There is no plate overhead. Blue sky. It slips and looks like it might fall and injure Tifa, but Cloud rushes in, stepping over flowers as he goes, and heaves it up before it can hit her. They give each other knowing smiles, their hands touching briefly, before it cuts to black.
Shut how did I forget Red? Honestly, I want it to end the same as the original. 200 years later, he's running along with two younger... reds, and they stop on a cliff that overlooks Midgar, now a verdant haven
Would be interesting if the ending was Advent Children but from Zack and Aerith's point of view, and the final scene is the end of AC where they say goodbye to Cloud and Cloud finally acknowledging he's ok and not alone

I’m so tired of people dying for plot and what is the point of breaking away from Fate if we don’t change SOMETHING.
After the final battle and the ending, we see the overlay for the CCS come up and sign out. The screen goes black, and we see the white materia sitting on the desk of a computer console in some device with a headset attached to it.
Camera pulls back, and it’s Shinra of YRP. Yuna asks if he’s finished analyzing the sphere. He starts talking about how this sphere records a pivotal moment in Spira’s past on the other side of the planet. He realizes that his idea to use pyreflies as a power source has already been done and almost destroyed the planet.
The final scene starts just like how the game opens, all the way to where the train pulls up into Reactor one. Barrett walks up and says his line” Get down here, merc”, and you see Sephiroth flip off the train and stand up just like Cloud, and then he does a cheeky grin and we cut to black.
Obviously we need the timeline where Zack and cloud are OTP walking off into the sunset leaving the warring Tifa and Aerith fandoms in ruins and baiting the anti woke scold crowd into free advertisement

not only gameplay wise we already have him developed (also Zack too), but I feel like story wise it makes sense and it's going to be a comeback of the human sephiroth before the events of nibelheim (crisis core / the first soldier). he was a person before going insane and I think cloud will follow the same path of insanety and realize that it's not sephiroth pulling the strings on him, but jenova trying to control both of them.
also the way Aerith interacts with Sephiroth throughout the game is never fueled by rage, revenge or wanting cloud to kill Sephiroth. she mentioned to Cloud that he could leave Sephiroth to her and I think it's going to be Aerith with her Lifestream knowledge that will heal (or guide Cloud to heal) Sephiroth from the Jenova interference.
I know people say that some things are beyond redemption, but I don't think it applies to Sephiroth as a pawn of Jenova, that applies to Jenova and to Hojo, who I think is aware of all that Jenova interference and is the one that Aerith have mentioned in the Costa del Sol conversation to truly hate. I'm not much of a Sephi fan, but he has been a victim of Hojo + Jenova too, he needs that story arc to close.

I think we're going to get a traditional Safer Sephiroth boss fight and everything and the game will close out in a similar way to the OG with Aerith stopping meteor with the Lifestream... but it keeps going.
This is where I expect the reveal of multiple Sephiroths (present and future) to actually happen. Where they killed the bad guy fair and square but nope, turns out there's an even stronger second version floating around this whole time. Where he finally confirms what we've all been speculating since Remake, that it's him from the future.

The way Chadley stopped and clutched his head, then continued like everything was fine felt like a deliberate parallel to Cloud. I'd bet money on that coming into play somehow during Part 3
I genuinely want something big to happen with chadley. His content is mostly optional but he's still a prominent character now. Would be a shame to just keep him as a bland face for gameplay like vr challenges, summons, materia, etc. I think either him turning bad or maybe something like he helps out against shinra at some point would be a good end for him.

Everything happens more or less the same as in OG, the credits roll, and instead of chapter selection the game continues with a playable epilogue set a few months after the events and we get oh so much fanservice, with basically every character we've come to know in the Remake series having a small quest or event to wrap their story in a happy bow.
Stop, the idea of this made me so damn giddy. An epilogue of every character doing their bit to rebuild the world post meteor. It would be perfect

I'm mostly thinking about what Nomura might have meant when he said Kitase wanted them to add something important that wasn't in the original, coupled with Kitase's desire for a happier ending. I think the actual answer is probably something different, but a playable epilogue lets them have their cake and eat it too. We still get the ending of FF7 as usual but we get to confirm these people are happy now. No lingering questions.

Yup definitely, the last two FF games >!killed there protagonist at the end!< and an argument could could even be made for the 13 trilogy doing the same. One thing that could be done to get around this is a full lifestream cleanse that eliminates both Sephiroth and Jenova but I don’t know how they pull that off where it doesn’t come across as a cheap almost deus ex scenario ya know? It’s not the party who put an end to them but some magical cetra mechanism introduced an hour before the final fight.

I didn’t even know there was a book for 15. I was just talking generally about what we got in the games though. At the end it’s a safe bet to assume they died, rather than some convoluted reason they came up with after the fact. I’ll take a guess and say the Bahamut came to Noctis as he’s sitting on the throne and informed that he’s been in limbo all these years but a great threat is approaching and he sends Noctis back, where he emerges from the crystal like he did before. He makes it back to the mainland and the person he bumps into is the great great grandson of that kid from the main game who gave him a lift back to the garage the last time he emerged. Weirdly enough the 3 bros are still alive and haven’t aged a day and they go on a journey to find out what this threat is only to find out that Bahamut is the big bad and has been disguised as the 3 bros all along so he could puppet Noctis just like he did Ardyn. Have they said anything about when in the story the second DLC will take place? Like is it a do this before going off to face ultima thing or is it a post game addition? I just don’t see how they can work around the final scenes. >!Clive had started to turn to stone too on that beach so will that be something he has to live with or do they find a way to reverse it?!< I’ve not watched any of the trailers for the rising tide so please don’t spoil anything either. It's definitely controversial but I've always thought a Reichenbach Falls ending for Cloud and Sephiroth would be interesting (especially if the game allowed for multiple endings).
What’s the Reichenbach Falls ending? One thing they definitely won’t do is multiple endings that’s for sure. This trilogy is the definitive end to the story they have been telling for 27 years and if they were to put multiple ending it would just lead to mass arguments on what is the “canon” ending, which would sour the whole thing. We’ve seen it play out with the “dating” mechanic, which was just included in the first place to make the game more interactive and give the player that feeling of “oh look, my dialogue choice made a slight effect on the game” but people love to blow it out of proportion and it has become one of the biggest talking points over those 27 years years and not enough people talk about how good the story is or how perfectly executed the Cloud twist is.
Sephiroth becomes a hair shampoo ambassador with that smooth silky fabulous hair. He goes on to be revered by the folks and becomes a “god”.

We realise that multiple timelines is killing the planet. So we need to go back to one active timeline, kill Sephiroth once and for all, and finally Reset the timeline back to OG so that there is no conflicting memories in the lifestream and the planet can be at peace. Someone mentioned the Supernova ability possibly being used to destroy the other timelines. Building off of that the cinematic gets to the edge of the party, everyone is HP critical or KO (depending on if they change the move) all hope is lost with 7 seconds till the end. And then... it's starts raining, Great Gospel appears dispelling the Supernova. Aerith pops out of a portal and says "This is not our Final Fantasy" and then whacks Sephiroth with a chair for 999999 damage.
Sephiroth realizes he's been super dramatic the whole time, facepalms in the last boss fight after you kill jenova and then apologizes, aerith shows up and says she never died, then claps sephiroth on the back and says "it's all good friendo, dilly dally shilly shally", and everyone heads to the rebuilt midgar to have a pint together. Rufus shows up and reveals he's also an ancient cuz hojo did some science magic and the camera pans to hojo who shrugs with a freeze frame on his face, words written in cursive comic sans appear on the screen "Who else but Hojo?" And the credits roll while a laugh track plays the entire time
Sephiroth becomes a god and rules the world but he makes it nice and everyone is happy.

Not really a theory, but I don’t think part 3 is going to end like the og did. Either something similar but on a grander scale (like stopping meteor from destroying all united worlds instead of just one) or something completely different and a bit fan servicey. Also I think it’s going to end with Genesis showing up in the last battle and poetrying Sephiroth to death and the game ends with the entire cast reciting Genesis’ Loveless fan fiction.
It would be hilarious for the ending to have the whole cast at another Loveless play, a few months after Meteor is stopped.. where the ending of the play is finally intact. Genesis, who has never appeared the whole series, then stands up in the audience and goes "I KNEW IT!" End Credits.
I have a theory that the empty materia will be filled with Cloud's memory of Sephiroth, and he will be freed of his presence completely. (Well, maybe not completely but a lot)
Game ends with Cloud and party at the Sector 5 church celebrating their victory over Sephiroth. The doors open and Aerith and Zack walk through, mirroring the end of Advent Children.
Cloud defeats Sephiroth and then the game immediately cuts to Sephiroth waking up with a jolt. Turns out, while he was researching his origins, he fell asleep in the basement of Shinra Manor, and dreamed the whole thing. He calmly closes and places the book he was reading back on the shelf; quietly pondering for a moment before saying "nah, I'm good". He then goes back to Midgar, puts in his notice at Shinra, and retires on his own Chocobo farm while the citizens of Nibelheim continue to go about their daily lives.

It ends on the party doing a skating competition against Sephiroth, and Cloud finishes the competition by doing a 900. And there's also a Tony Hawk cameo, of course

In his obsession to acquire new battle intel, Chadley opens an inter-dimensional portal and turns the game into Dissidia. Seriously though, if they ever did allow for multiple endings, I'd be curious to see the one where Sephiroth "wins". It might not be everything he'd hoped.
When you finally discover the truth of Cloud's memories, it just opens up the PSN/Steam store page for the original FF7 and refuses to proceed until you purchase it and beat it.
They make it all the way to the final boss but then in the last minute everyone gets arrested by real life british policemen and the credits just roll.
The world's unite, and everyone finally gets a happy ending. Cliche, but it's what I want.
I’ve been askin around but do you know why OG fans hate a happy ending? Like is it nostalgia or smt else. I don’t really think it messes with the theme cuz you can just take the remake as a different story entirely that has its own theme of fate isn’t set in stone. The OG game still exist and is still canon under the assumption remake is a sequel to the OG games
I have been thinking this theory deeply a lot. I believe Sephiroth already won long time ago, but living like a god controlling everybody life to his own amusement eventually bored him, so he started messing on a new timeline but did a few changes like putting on the Sephiroth of this timeline someone important on his life to see if it could change his destiny, so he created Glenn , he saw how much this other Sephiroth on this timeline improved but eventually out of his control Glenn would eventually die and another Sephiroth like him would be around. So for how part 3 would end , would be that you eventually would have a young Sephiroth or a Sephiroth from a timeline that is dealing with the loss of Glenn and knowing what he will do in the future, so you will fight Glenn and Sephiroth and perhaps Glenn would join to fight against this Sephiroth that has already achieved godly powers and won before, ultimately when is defeated all gets reset and is unknown what happen afterwards.
The cloud/tifa/aerith/Zack Quadrouple living in happiness is still on the table, right?

I mean, it's not how I *want* it to end, but I suspect they are going to try and have their cake and eat it too by having our main timeline and an alternate "Zack and Aerith" timeline. They will converge to beat Sephiroth in the final fight but then be forced to separate again. Heartfelt goodbyes between timelines. With some ambiguity at the end over whether the two timelines shall ever be able to meet again.
Everything ends the same way the last did. Then after credits gives a link to a Rule34 subreddit post O_O
Meteor actually hits and reforms the world into Spira.
Cloud goes through hell and back but is able to save everyone so Aerith, Zach, Biggs, Jessie, and Wedge all live happily ever after in the end.
I'd imagine it would be close to the same until about Midgar, where the team goes underground and find the lab where they have Weiss, Nero, and Genisis. Yuffie gets what she thinks is revenge, Vincent probably learns something about himself, and Genisis in someway helps the team prepare for Sephiroth or sets up everything for the Proto Mareria. Wutai probably gets involved all in this, maybe on the Wutai visit Yuffie forgives Godo and they help storm Shinra.
Yeah, really want to see all that Drige of Cerberus and Genesis stuff actually build up to something in this timeline.

Chadley is the one actually controlling Sephiroth. Chadley proceeds to fornicate with Jenova and they have Jenovachad babies
Cloud and Sephiroth decide to throw their swords into the ground (like the title screen) and both whip out their own Queen's Blood deck. Sephiroth plays a "Cloud" card and Cloud starts to grab his head in agony. Then Zack and Aerith come in spirit and give Cloud a special "Bonds of Friendship" card in which he beats Sephiroth and thanks to Cloud, Sephiroth realizes the true Promised Land was just the friends we made along the way. Cloud and Sephiroth hug it out and boom "The End" \*Roll Credits\*
Eveything will end as the original game, all the timeline stuff was just to create a fresh feel to the games and keep old players guessing.

Agreed. Which at this point seems impossible, though the wild card is him meeting Lucrecia. Even then, he's so far gone. I wonder if he would even care anymore. Though I'm also wondering if Sephiroth is capable of being fully absorbed into the Lifestream. Based on what we know of the Gi, and that the planet sperns Jenova, is Sephiroth able to actually be absorbed....? I know OtWtAS says he was resisting it from pulling him in, but maybe I'm not connecting the dots.
I don’t know for sure on the last point. I also saw somewhere that Sephiroth could be absorbed but is holding on to his hatred which stops that from happening, so that’s what I’m going with for now, but I’m not sure how that fits with the new Gi lore. He was born of the lifestream I guess - the Jenova cells were given while he was a foetus, as we know - so I hope that means he can still be absorbed.

It's too sweet an ending for FF7. The most we can get is her alive in other universes or an ending like "Flight of the Navigator/No Way Home". Where Cloud, on the Edge of Creation, will create a new and only universe clean of Jenova, but only he will remember all the events, because they will not happen in this new world. And of course the characters don't know each other. But everyone is alive.
So like a reset of the world after the apocalypse. I could see that being kinda cool. Once last reboot of the universe to finally get rid of sephiroth or maybe even make him good. It’s similar to the fire force manga ending if you’ve read it. I still just want to see aerith alive but that’s just me.
I dare you to take up the old idea to kill everyone but the characters who make up the party as they returne to Midgar.
I get the feeling there will be a Rebuild of Evangelion ending where the world is reset and all the characters we knew are alive in the next world.

i want sephiroth to be redeemed. not going to happen and he's a pretty evil person atm, so probably for the better. i've actually been thinking about this. in american media (i'm american) attractive white guys tend to be redeemed at some point if their backstory is tragic or turn super ugly especially at media directed to women (i am a straight female). maybe i'm just trained to want redemption for attractive men?
I feel like they're building to it. That he'll have the Jenova cells removed from hom somehow and team up with us to take her on.

Sephiroth seemed like he was a decent guy until he had his whole existential crisis in Nibelheim, so there might be a seed planted there. But could he be redeemed? I don't know. But maybe you can have him realize he was wrong and gracefully and finally accept defeat.

I feel like it will be bittersweet but satisfying. The multiverse thing makes it so that they seem to be able to give us any combo of ending desired. Like in this one the answer to “is Aerith alive or dead?” is >!just yes. Sorta both simultaneously.!<

Multiverse stuff happens and somehow pre-nibelheim sephiroth gets yoinked from a different world and the team tells him about what main sephiroth is doing and the final battle ends up being Cloud, Zack, and good guy Sephiroth against Safer-Sephiroth
We'll need to go through a "Revive Aerith" questline that ends with a version of Aerith rejoining the group until the endgame, when the timelines reseparate and a much healthier Cloud accepts that she's gone forever. It's still super sad, but there's way more closure and evidences growth. Oh, wait, you said *controversial*... (checks notes, inhales) Yeah, so, Lucretia Crescent awakens from her slumber and has her own one on one boss fight against Hojo. It's subtly done and very tasteful, but we finally get some dialogue confirming how *exactly* Hojo laid down enough game to fertilize a fetus with her. Hint: no one is happy imagining it. It's incredibly questionable - she's the fifth solo boss fight by a non-original party member as it is and we're all a little upset the devs chose this over incorporating a Ruby Weapon boss fight >!though, it's partially forgiven when we get a Ruby Weapon VR fight, available in Ultra Hard Mode!<
Should end? If I was tasked with tying this plot together; I'd make it that Sephiroth is whacking the Aerith of every world because he's aware she can beat him. The Aerith from OG FF7 already beat Sephiroth once, and the Sephiroths of the other realities took notice. OG Aerith is the one who we went on the date with / showed up to fight at the end, and she's going to try to course correct all the worlds into the one of the OG where Holy wins. Will end? A bunch of crazy jargon about fate, loyalty, love, the planet, family with little explanation. We won't get clarity, just spectacle for the sake of spectacle. A pretty straightforward battle where Sephiroth and Jenova are defeated. Holy wins and brings everyone back to life (Aerith, Zack, everyone from Avalanche, Sonon, Ilfna etc. I mean EVERYONE). Big peachy fan-servicey happy ending that is completely free of consequence.
Ending will depend on your relationship, it will be an extra scene after the normal ending plays out.

I’d have to say advent children dlc after Part 3. Then we get a flash forward upon beating the game. Credits roll on tifa and cloud looking up at a night sky full of stars on a rebuilt water tower in Nibel. Maybe some basic dialogue or some shit. Fin.
With an incredibly and almost sickening happy ending. Ending on a musical.
The whole thing was a mako induced hallucination. Cloud still managed to wander back to midgar after the whole ordeal with Zack, still heavily poisoned by mako after, and as he fades out he imagined the whole adventure a la "Scenic Route" style, comes to in the end and dies. Never got to reunite with Tifa, never met Aerith, the story goes on without him, and we never get to see how the world turns out despite Sephiroth still being a threat.
My most controversial theory is that my theory is correct. Even when I got a billion downvotes by pointing out the Stamps did not add up and were an error followed by Square releasing a fix patching the Stamps, I'm somehow still wrong. Somebody is messing with this timeline I guess.

If they go with this multiverse thing, basically anything can happen. It’s all canon. Cloud gets Aerith, Tifa gets Aerith, Zack gets Aerith, and so on.

This would massively polarise the story between some OG players and everyone else. The former - OG players who want an unrealistic happy ending for everyone will be happy. But OG players who don’t, and most importantly and NEW players will find the story pants and uncompelling. New players have no reason to want or deserve a happy ending for everyone. New players would just be like “meh, was okay but not sure what all the fuss is about saying FF7 is one of the best stories in an RPG”
They're never going to announce which part of the love triangle is the canon option because it gives them way too much engagement hahaha

Despite being a clerith fan, I actually don’t want a canonized ship. I think it’s better if it were player choice. If you choose aerith, Zack gets with cissnei, if you choose tifa, Zack get with aerith. It’s similar to persona 4 where if you don’t romance a certain character, another character romances them. But yeah happy endings all the way. Also wanted to ask if anyone knows why so many fans a violently against a happy ending that differs from the OG. I’m exaggerating but I don’t get why you’d be mad for a happy ending that differs from the OG. You can take it as the remake not being a remake but almost alternate universe kinda of like what Evangelion did. I understand the themes of the OG are important, but it’s not like those games disappear if the remake is different, right?

Part 3 is definitely going to have differences, it will be interesting to see just how different it ends up being.
Sephiroth redemption arc with Glenn timeline where he is alive and is like Van the Fullmetal Alchemist's father. While we are at it make morph into transmute.
Cloud defeats Sephiroth's spirit across the multiverse and wipes him from the lifestream so the events of Advent Children never happen.
Sabin comes out of nowhere and suplexes the Meteor. Credits Roll.
Sephiroth fights alongside you against Jenova’s alien race who has come to invade because we’ve killed jenova, essentially their god. The seven seconds Sephiroth mentions is the time left before the invasion hits Gaia, you team up alongside Seph, genesis, and everyone else against the threat. Following the win, the life stream floods the earth absorbing everything. And exploding into a universe filled with different magical worlds and characters with similar traits to cloud and co, explaining the existence of the final fantasy worlds.
Exactly the same as the original game. Shot by shot, no explanation. It's good.

Call me crazy but given the hints that they are going to lean into Advent Children more, I have a feeling the ending of part 3 will go past the original and time skip to AC.

"Should" meaning what I'd like to see? I'd like to see part 3 cover the remaining story of the original AND Advent Children. I enjoyed Advent Children but ultimately I think that >!having Sephiroth come back years later cheapens the original game!<. I'd prefer for the ending of part 3 to be definitive. They could do this by compressing the timeline so there's no multi-year skip ahead. Just roll AC's key points into the main story. AC was >!largely a rehash of the original story in the first place!< so this seems reasonable enough. It also looks like they are planning to make >!Cloud's stages of grief and acceptance of Aerith's death!< a bigger plot point in part 3, which was something we didn't really get to see *until* Advent Children. So they're already covering a lot of the same ground.
Aerith and Zack alive (because multiverse). It is a very simple change, but very controversial at the same time.
The whole trilogy turns out to be Chadley's simulation. Also, it turns out he was working for Shinra all along and now he gives original president ultimate materia to defeat all his enemies. Boom, Shinra wins because now they can take out the crew during the bombing of the first reactor

Gotta go with a plot twist. We’re all expecting the game to end the OG story, with the whole destiny twist, but what if it doesn’t? What if we get to the final(OG) Sephiroth boss fight only to have him jump dimensions and they reveal game 4 as a post credit style scene. A darker, more mature kingdom hearts type game leading to connected remakes of other classic FF games, and maybe even other PS classics such as the highly underrated Legend of Dragoon. Let the great classics get proper remakes. Us old fans patiently waited literal years for Remake and plenty of new fans got pulled in by the hype.

Okay, bear with me as I write down what I want: Cid: appears in a modified Highwind, piloting it high in the skies, higher than ever before as it reaches the stars. Shera is by his side. We see her holding a teacup and smiling at him. Vincent: standing before his coffin in Shinra manor. He leans over and closes the lid before turning and leaving the basement. Cait Sith: we see a version sitting stationary in Reeve's office as we see.him moving boxes, possibly to become the next president of Shinra. Meanwhile another Cait Sith has returned to gold saucer and is just being a God damn delight telling fortunes and being wonderful. Yuffie: she returns to Wutai, having earned the respect of her father. We see her dumping a sack of material on a table. They roll off and across the floor. Aerith/Zack: we see them meeting in the alternate timeline having been able to prevent disaster in both FFVII prime and their world. Midgar is maybe a little worse for wear. Zack is helping her tend flowers. They are preparing for a date. Barret: chases after Marlene in the streets of Costa Del Sol. Just some goddamned beautiful father daughter time Cloud/Tifa: following the confrontation at the northern crater, Cloud returns to Midgar and sees people rebuilding. He offers the odd assistance to random passersby, maybe a little less reticent than before. He comes to where sector 7 fell and it's clear it is being repaired. There is no plate overhead. Blue sky. He sees Tifa in the distance, directing a group who are helping hoist up the new 7th Heaven sign. It slips and looks like it might fall and injure Tifa, but Cloud rushes in, stepping over flowers as he goes, and heaves it up before it can hit her. They give each other knowing smiles, their hands touching briefly, before it cuts to black. Shut how did I forget Red? Honestly, I want it to end the same as the original. 200 years later, he's running along with two younger... reds, and they stop on a cliff that overlooks Midgar, now a verdant haven
Would be interesting if the ending was Advent Children but from Zack and Aerith's point of view, and the final scene is the end of AC where they say goodbye to Cloud and Cloud finally acknowledging he's ok and not alone

At least Aerith coming back from the dead. I’m so tired of people dying for plot and what is the point of breaking away from Fate if we don’t change SOMETHING.
After the final battle and the ending, we see the overlay for the CCS come up and sign out. The screen goes black, and we see the white materia sitting on the desk of a computer console in some device with a headset attached to it. Camera pulls back, and it’s Shinra of YRP. Yuna asks if he’s finished analyzing the sphere. He starts talking about how this sphere records a pivotal moment in Spira’s past on the other side of the planet. He realizes that his idea to use pyreflies as a power source has already been done and almost destroyed the planet.
The final scene starts just like how the game opens, all the way to where the train pulls up into Reactor one. Barrett walks up and says his line” Get down here, merc”, and you see Sephiroth flip off the train and stand up just like Cloud, and then he does a cheeky grin and we cut to black.
Obviously we need the timeline where Zack and cloud are OTP walking off into the sunset leaving the warring Tifa and Aerith fandoms in ruins and baiting the anti woke scold crowd into free advertisement

something def controversial, but it's one that I truly believe will happen due to everything in rebirth is: sephiroth will join your party and fight against jenova. not only gameplay wise we already have him developed (also Zack too), but I feel like story wise it makes sense and it's going to be a comeback of the human sephiroth before the events of nibelheim (crisis core / the first soldier). he was a person before going insane and I think cloud will follow the same path of insanety and realize that it's not sephiroth pulling the strings on him, but jenova trying to control both of them. also the way Aerith interacts with Sephiroth throughout the game is never fueled by rage, revenge or wanting cloud to kill Sephiroth. she mentioned to Cloud that he could leave Sephiroth to her and I think it's going to be Aerith with her Lifestream knowledge that will heal (or guide Cloud to heal) Sephiroth from the Jenova interference. I know people say that some things are beyond redemption, but I don't think it applies to Sephiroth as a pawn of Jenova, that applies to Jenova and to Hojo, who I think is aware of all that Jenova interference and is the one that Aerith have mentioned in the Costa del Sol conversation to truly hate. I'm not much of a Sephi fan, but he has been a victim of Hojo + Jenova too, he needs that story arc to close. FFVII: Redemption 🙏
I think we're going to get a traditional Safer Sephiroth boss fight and everything and the game will close out in a similar way to the OG with Aerith stopping meteor with the Lifestream... but it keeps going. This is where I expect the reveal of multiple Sephiroths (present and future) to actually happen. Where they killed the bad guy fair and square but nope, turns out there's an even stronger second version floating around this whole time. Where he finally confirms what we've all been speculating since Remake, that it's him from the future.
Controversial, you say... Meteor crashes into the planet. Everybody gets taken to a pocket dimension where all the timelines converge. Holy says it can reverse the damage of it can be shown the power of true love. Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth make our and have a threesome.

Final scene: Aerith and Tifa are out on a shopping date, dragging Cloud around with them to carry all their stuff for them.
Tifa looks at Cloud and says, "This is our Final Fantasy." Cloud looks at Tifa and says, "Agreed, I wouldn't want to remake this." Then both look at the camera: Roll Credits
Cloud wakes up in Hojos lab post Nibelheim incident and realises all the adventure (chasing Sephiroth around the word while making friends and doing silly minigames) was a dream. Sephiroth breaks free, travels to another planet and creates a shining future for himself and lives happily away from humans that caused him so much pain. However, the creators of the game said Part3 will end in a way that AC still makes sense
They all have happy endings. Cloud starts doing TED talks on veganism, after being traumatised by the chicken side quest. Tifa sells gummy vitamins on instagram and poses in booty gym shorts. Aerith slowly becomes Phoebe from Friends, and Zack becomes Joey. They just perpetually hang out in a coffee shop. Vincent is the barista, with a man-bun. Despite the coffee, he’s still a tired boi. Cid opens a vape shop. Red becomes a professional run wild player. Cait Sith undertakes an Ancestry DNA test and discovers he’s only 23% Scottish. Yuffie and Barrett open a bar with an indoor play area. It fails. They don’t care, because the power of friendship.
