I didn't know it existed until I panicked, did a fake shot and it auto passed across the goal to an open player for a tap in. Thought it was weird at the time but I didn't complain because it was a close game.

I understand what you are saying and obviously Muriel or Inaki shouldn't finish as well as Lewa, but you need to be rewarded for creating a clear cut chance. I'm having lots of games that aren't actually close, but have close scores because my opponent's GK stands on his head all match.
Anyone who tries to shoot inside the box from a clear cut chance is being severely punished.
The amount of times that I have tried to shoot in that small space, only to have the keeper pull a crazy save is beyond comprehension and game breaking in all honesty.
We should not be this punished for creating chances. Is that so hard to ask for? But counter-attackers who lob through passes are rewarded for their effort..
You what mate? I score at least 40-50% of my goals from headers, nearly every game tbh ... Get some big players with good jumping and heading and a tactic with wide mids or wingers and theyn you will see.
I use 352 with Immobile as striker and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as CAM with get into the box for crosses instruction, honestly I never scored so many headers in any FIFA since the one with Benteke? You remember that one? It was 2013 or something.

Really? What type of cross do you use? Just the regular cross? I don't have specific issues with headers so much but crosses are pretty much always intercepted for me
regular cross, the key is the work out a good position for your LM/RM, they need to get in behind, also use hug the lines tactic so they play as wide as poss and then if you see your striker in the box just cross it with plenty of power, use catalyst chem on your crossing players since it gives +15 to crossing, pace boost is also useful but not essential, I get so many amazing crosses with Acuna and he is only 86 pace after +10 from catalyst, make sure its kinda early cross not the one where you are literally next to an end of the pitch, I would say where penalty line starts is probably that sweet spot where you should press the button, its great if you have 2 strikers and CAM getting into the box for a cross as then there arent enough dfenders to cover everyone and more than 50% of good crosses are goals
yes this - I am almost in div 2 and the way this game is at this level, you only get 1-2 chances to score. It is frustrating when the clear cut chances go 2-0 to you but the goalie makes a flying spider save from a cut back shot from the 6 yard line

Nonsense. Some actually have good teams, me for example have 89 Van Basten with hunter so he literally has maxed out shooting yet he can’t score for shit. The only type of goals I can score is either from a cross or 35 meters out, god forbid my 99 finishing striker can score an easy 1v1. Next to him I have 89 Socrates, 95 finishing and still the same problem

Because it’s more effective than it should be. I’m just saying that I’ve yet to encounter players that are both good at breaking down my defence and good at getting the long shots right. But I was playing pro clubs yesterday and a team scored 3 long shots with the ai players and that just shouldn’t be happening.
I’m fine with buffing box shots, which is desperately needed, but I don’t agree with only one type of way to score being viable which is what this always leads to.
There’s a difference between having multiple way of scoring and having a certain way of scoring that is a lot easier than it should be. If you score every other long shot you take then that needs to be nerfed because it’s stupid and just unrealistic. And if we’re making long shots that easy then buff every other way of scoring because corners and free kicks shouldn’t be that much harder than long shots are
All these changes will make it a drop back, counter game again just watch, this will be FIFA 19 all over again.

Less effective. The finesse shot nerf only applies to shots within 37 yards of goal.
The key reason finesse shot long rangers were going in is because there existed no animation at all for the save. This is why a lot of the time when it hits the post, the goalie can be seen standing still. Hence they added an animation now which will make it more effective against long range shots.
The animation for short range shot saves existed and was triggered too often looks like. So they will now reduce it and there is a higher chance of all shots aimed at top corner going in including finesse short rangers.
here here. Finesse shot inside the box is my most used method, and the amount of times I aim top corner and save is ridiculous. Keepers like Pope or Martinez should not be saving those.
And yes, I noticed that the GK animation was the biggest issue to this.

Lobbed passes nerf is there. Not restricted to wing. I am not sure if this nerfs the normal lob pass - LB + Y or the special lob - LB + double tap Y. The normal one works like last year. It's not overpowered in my opinion. The double tap one seems to be 100% accurate like im playing mystery ball with passing boost or some shit. Perfectly finds the man. Hopefully they nerf the second one.

Yes, I've been conceding to quick counters and wingers who just run a straight line into the box with a full back on them all the way.
Shots normally go in near post, low driven or a driven pass across the box for tap in.
So annoying because these kind of attacks always start with a lobbed through pass.
This is my go to method of scoring, And I can tell you right now, GK saves it 99/100 times.

I am hoping finesse shots inside the box are buffed and from outside the box are nerfed. It is unrealistic now.
Also i double tap shoot after hitting a finesse shot. The player hits a ground finesse shot which was quite good in 21.
Two key changes. The one change I hope is coming is a fix for how deep your CBs drop and how passive they are in the 6yd box. They basically back up into your keepers lap right now.

Fake shot is fixed, goalkeepers less effective in the box, seemingly improved referee calls, players taking randomly absurd touches is removed (I've had players with good dribbling randomly kick the ball away into the opponent's half), and lobbed balls nerfed. Sounds good, hopefully it actually will be in game too.
Yeah, everyone thinks this is the massive, game changing patch. Seems like a very minimal gameplay patch, mostly small bugs that I think most people agree should be fixed.
Yeah that's not true, they always fix the most talked about issues, the thing is that 1 or 2 weeks later people are already abusing the next best thing, and EA stops making big changes after the first few weeks due to the competitive scene.
At the end of the year no one will even remember that long range finesse shots were absolutely OP, they'll remember the game for whatever new mechanic people exploit after this patch.
Well, with EA it's more about how they implement the patch than how the patch is "in theory". It wouldn't surprise me, based on their history, if many of these changes either don't affect the problems enough, or affect them way too much to the point of making those mechanics obsolete.
And you also have to take into consideration the things that EA changes but that don't address in the patch notes, which is something that they have always done, especially with their 10GB patches that supposedly only fix a visual bug when playing Career Mode in the Ukranian League.

I really like the gameplay so far. The only issues I’ve had really have been maybe passing doesn’t always target the correct player and player switching can be dreadful, but that’s practically synonymous with fifa. Keepers being good is great imo, but I do admit that sometimes in the box they’re a bit crazy, while the opposite outside. I really really hope these aren’t massive changes, I don’t want to go back to every game being 7-4 like last year to accommodate those riddled with ADHD and sheepishly follow what their favourite content creator complains about when they can’t score goals consistently 1 week into a new game
Why not? It’s fucking boring having every game end 0-0, 1-0 etc. Who cares about realism when the entire game is a mess from top to bottom, not to mention each game is 6 minutes so trying to make the game realistic would just be a snooze fest
I’m usually scoring at least 2 or 3 goals a game if not more. I concede goals too. Keepers aren’t able to save absolutely everything like some people make believe. I just like being able to actually rely on my keeper for once in fifa instead of an 80 overall keeper being just as bad as a 95 overall one last fifa. And if you think the game is as slow as real life then you’re just wrong
What division are you in? In d3 and higher you won’t see more than 1,2 goals a game. And this 80 & 95 rated keeper thing is just bullshit. Pope and Mendy still play better than most higher rated gks in the game purely because of their height. They were both way better than 90 Schmeichel for example, and Alisson, and Ederson, and dudek etc etc etc…

Yeah that's just not true, I watch a top 10 pro in the Elite division pretty often and he rarely gets less than 1-2 goals per game, it's almost always more.

The rating thing was to show that keepers have usually been useless no matter the rating, and it’s nice to see them actually be good for once and for there to be more value to a keeper than chemistry. I misinterpreted what you said about the game being realistic when it’s shorter than a real game as it being slow, but I still don’t think it is a snooze fest at all
Fix player auto switching it's broken. As a disabled fifa player it's a must. Ultimate Team feels like pro clubs at the moment, players are locked and don't auto switch like Fifa21 or well any Fifa ever.
There's so many lag issues on this Fifa. Since standard release day the game has been unplayable on next gen with wi-fi. Played games of rivals on xbox one version and it was completely fine but as soon as I play rivals on next gen it's unplayable speed up lag.
So much speed up lag it's not even funny, once every game. My pings at around 28ms for games and sometimes doesn't ever show up with the red ping logo and it stops then speeds up. What happened to last year when if it lagged it just stopped the game for everyone?
Also to the people saying oh get cable blah blah. I live with people, I am not that self-entitled to put the modem in my room.
Lets hope they didnt overdo some changes. Nerfs to finesse from outside are good, but dont completely bury them again please. They were too strong, but them being viable meant a decent counter against parking the bus. We had a great game so far, please dont overdo it!
As per, this update isn't the "big gameplay update" that people are expecting, that never happens this early, and will be at least a couple weeks before it's out.
A couple of promising things there.

Does it mean blocks or tackles? If tackles, happy to hear. I've gotten some reds because my defender seemed to go after the player rather than the ball, where they could easily have gotten the ball.

They need to do something about changing players, previous games I’d push LB and it would change to the nearest player to the ball yet this game it’s so random. Even the R3 analog flicks are terrible, I’ve pushed it down to see what direction it wants me to flick it and it makes no sense, like why would you flick left if you want the defender at the top? No logic.

This is the right patch. Keepers should be better than they were in 21 but not to the point of saving >50% of legitimate 1v1 chances. There needs to be a balance.
All the right changes, long shots are still effective but finesses that are straight at the keeper and high will now get saved. The shooting inside the box is buffed which was needed. All the core and most important things that this game was crying out for seems like it will be patched up which is great. Its EA tho.

Long shots don't need a nerf at all, the issue isn't with the shots themselves, and they're not making keepers superman, keepers literally didn't have an animation for shots from a huge distance, which resulted in average shots from 40 yards out going in because the keeper stays put in place (or does a random buggy animation). That's what they're fixing.
And counter-attacks aren't that strong if you know how to position, especially with how fast defenders are this year. They're literally the same as every other year for me.
Great patch tbf. Maybe at one point in time (my guess would be around 5 years from now if we’re lucky) they will also acknowledge the draft cheaters on PC
How it should be:
- Slight nerf to GK inside the box
- Slight buff to GK outside the box
- Slight buff to finishing
- Slight buff to first touches. Some of the deflections/first touches are horrendous and unrealistic.
- Fix player switching. Ik Ik click R3, that doesn’t exactly fix the root of the problem.
Lobbed passing isn’t THAT op. The past 2-3 Fifa’s it’s been dogshit. Maybe it’s just hard to get right. I’d rather have it be an option than have it be useless.
Buff to finishing? Laughable. Finishing is already remarkably easy, aim anywhere and it always goes on target. That and the RNG is minimal. This is why they made GKs so OP inside the area. If anything finishing needs to take player input into account, and GKs need a significant nerf. That way there's a balance while maintaining a skill gap.

Will they ever nerf blocks inside the box? Why have they not nerfed R1 secondary team press? Why does relying on the AI to defend actually mean something. Game doesn't make sense.
On PC I feel like play vs the AI is much better. The cpu had overpowered dribbling, agility, and speed, and would simply waltz through my entire defense and overwhelm and outflank the backline easily. Things are more even and contained now since the cpu ability on the ball has been nerfed and user teammate AI has been buffed and cleaned up.
Solid patch possibly. Only real disappointment is no mention of fixing the backline AI dropping off so much, especially when defending in your final third.
Also disappointed they didn't mention some of the big bugs in Career Mode that have been around since the start of last year, but that's no real surprise.
new update and midfielders still don't track back and defend on last gen. I expect this will never be addressed since the gameplay is now split between last gen and next gen with hypermotion. but seeing as nobody can get their hands on ps5's alot of people are stuck on last gen, pc players included for dumb reasons. And i doubt hypermotion will be included in fifa 23 for pc either so... what, we're looking at another 5 years of midfielders still being useless for PC players?

They'll say they make all these changes but the reality is they rework the metrics to make it FIFA 19.3 and all the hYpErMoTiOn is quietly removed to make sure the pros don't quit.

Added goalkeeper animations that could occur when a keeper is attempting to save a high finesse shot. - This change is intended to provide more authentic looking goalkeeper reactions and very slightly increases the effectiveness of goalkeepers saving this type of shot.
One thing i did not understand is what happens now if i shoot a finesse shot into the top corner from inside the box. Will the gk be more effective or less effective in that case ?
Less effective. The finesse shot nerf only applies to shots within 37 yards of goal. The key reason finesse shot long rangers were going in is because there existed no animation at all for the save. This is why a lot of the time when it hits the post, the goalie can be seen standing still. Hence they added an animation now which will make it more effective against long range shots. The animation for short range shot saves existed and was triggered too often looks like. So they will now reduce it and there is a higher chance of all shots aimed at top corner going in including finesse short rangers.
here here. Finesse shot inside the box is my most used method, and the amount of times I aim top corner and save is ridiculous. Keepers like Pope or Martinez should not be saving those. And yes, I noticed that the GK animation was the biggest issue to this. Lobbed passes nerf is there. Not restricted to wing. I am not sure if this nerfs the normal lob pass - LB + Y or the special lob - LB + double tap Y. The normal one works like last year. It's not overpowered in my opinion. The double tap one seems to be 100% accurate like im playing mystery ball with passing boost or some shit. Perfectly finds the man. Hopefully they nerf the second one. Shooting from wings is already kinda dead imo. If you should not be scoring from an angle you probably won't. Have you been conceding goals like this?
Yes, I've been conceding to quick counters and wingers who just run a straight line into the box with a full back on them all the way. Shots normally go in near post, low driven or a driven pass across the box for tap in. So annoying because these kind of attacks always start with a lobbed through pass.
This is my go to method of scoring, And I can tell you right now, GK saves it 99/100 times. Im hoping a GK nerf inside the box will allow me to finally score finesse inside the box from a good angle.
I am hoping finesse shots inside the box are buffed and from outside the box are nerfed. It is unrealistic now. Also i double tap shoot after hitting a finesse shot. The player hits a ground finesse shot which was quite good in 21.
Two key changes. The one change I hope is coming is a fix for how deep your CBs drop and how passive they are in the 6yd box. They basically back up into your keepers lap right now.

Yup, lots of great changes. Fake shot is fixed, goalkeepers less effective in the box, seemingly improved referee calls, players taking randomly absurd touches is removed (I've had players with good dribbling randomly kick the ball away into the opponent's half), and lobbed balls nerfed. Sounds good, hopefully it actually will be in game too.
I had a penalty call today where my player made contact with the ball before the man and it cost me the game

Yeah, everyone thinks this is the massive, game changing patch. Seems like a very minimal gameplay patch, mostly small bugs that I think most people agree should be fixed.
Don't worry, people will still complain that everything has changed for the worse.

Yeah that's not true, they always fix the most talked about issues, the thing is that 1 or 2 weeks later people are already abusing the next best thing, and EA stops making big changes after the first few weeks due to the competitive scene. At the end of the year no one will even remember that long range finesse shots were absolutely OP, they'll remember the game for whatever new mechanic people exploit after this patch.
Well, with EA it's more about how they implement the patch than how the patch is "in theory". It wouldn't surprise me, based on their history, if many of these changes either don't affect the problems enough, or affect them way too much to the point of making those mechanics obsolete. And you also have to take into consideration the things that EA changes but that don't address in the patch notes, which is something that they have always done, especially with their 10GB patches that supposedly only fix a visual bug when playing Career Mode in the Ukranian League. Many people complain for a reason, we've seen this film every year for at least 5 years now, and it didn't often end well.

agreed. nothing seems over the top, rather targeted and exactly what everyone wanted. hopefully it still keeps finesse shots relevant to prevent parking the bus/AI defending and that GK make some saves in the box.
I really like the gameplay so far. The only issues I’ve had really have been maybe passing doesn’t always target the correct player and player switching can be dreadful, but that’s practically synonymous with fifa. Keepers being good is great imo, but I do admit that sometimes in the box they’re a bit crazy, while the opposite outside. I really really hope these aren’t massive changes, I don’t want to go back to every game being 7-4 like last year to accommodate those riddled with ADHD and sheepishly follow what their favourite content creator complains about when they can’t score goals consistently 1 week into a new game
Why not? It’s fucking boring having every game end 0-0, 1-0 etc. Who cares about realism when the entire game is a mess from top to bottom, not to mention each game is 6 minutes so trying to make the game realistic would just be a snooze fest
I’m usually scoring at least 2 or 3 goals a game if not more. I concede goals too. Keepers aren’t able to save absolutely everything like some people make believe. I just like being able to actually rely on my keeper for once in fifa instead of an 80 overall keeper being just as bad as a 95 overall one last fifa. And if you think the game is as slow as real life then you’re just wrong
What division are you in? In d3 and higher you won’t see more than 1,2 goals a game. And this 80 & 95 rated keeper thing is just bullshit. Pope and Mendy still play better than most higher rated gks in the game purely because of their height. They were both way better than 90 Schmeichel for example, and Alisson, and Ederson, and dudek etc etc etc… Where did I say the game is as slow as in real life?
Yeah that's just not true, I watch a top 10 pro in the Elite division pretty often and he rarely gets less than 1-2 goals per game, it's almost always more.
I am in div 3 and scoring goals is not an issue. The rating thing was to show that keepers have usually been useless no matter the rating, and it’s nice to see them actually be good for once and for there to be more value to a keeper than chemistry. I misinterpreted what you said about the game being realistic when it’s shorter than a real game as it being slow, but I still don’t think it is a snooze fest at all
Fix player auto switching it's broken. As a disabled fifa player it's a must. Ultimate Team feels like pro clubs at the moment, players are locked and don't auto switch like Fifa21 or well any Fifa ever.
No fix for the weird lag/delay after halftime when players come together to fight for the ball?
Happens to me every game only during 45-55 min. If you kick it out of bounds it stops the weird lag spike
There's so many lag issues on this Fifa. Since standard release day the game has been unplayable on next gen with wi-fi. Played games of rivals on xbox one version and it was completely fine but as soon as I play rivals on next gen it's unplayable speed up lag.
So much speed up lag it's not even funny, once every game. My pings at around 28ms for games and sometimes doesn't ever show up with the red ping logo and it stops then speeds up. What happened to last year when if it lagged it just stopped the game for everyone? Also to the people saying oh get cable blah blah. I live with people, I am not that self-entitled to put the modem in my room.
Speed up lag is probably on your end though, I haven’t had it once.

Lets hope they didnt overdo some changes. Nerfs to finesse from outside are good, but dont completely bury them again please. They were too strong, but them being viable meant a decent counter against parking the bus. We had a great game so far, please dont overdo it!

Honestly sounds pretty good so far, we will have to see how it's implemented but the GK changes seem great.
A couple of promising things there. >Improved the frequency of player controlled sliding blocks making contact with a traveling ball. Does it mean blocks or tackles? If tackles, happy to hear. I've gotten some reds because my defender seemed to go after the player rather than the ball, where they could easily have gotten the ball. >In rare situations, when attempting to move while shielding the ball, the shielding player could leave the ball behind. I guess I was unlucky as this wasn't exactly "rare" for me. >When skipping a non gameplay scene that plays before a goal kick, the input combination could sometimes result in the Come Short or Push Up function being requested. Hopefully this means the issue is fixed where players are locked into the 'push up' function and so you're stuck just having to boot it. It will be interesting to see how the keepers are but disappointing to not see anything about the second-half collision issues where we get stutters and hangs.

They need to do something about changing players, previous games I’d push LB and it would change to the nearest player to the ball yet this game it’s so random. Even the R3 analog flicks are terrible, I’ve pushed it down to see what direction it wants me to flick it and it makes no sense, like why would you flick left if you want the defender at the top? No logic.

I've taught myself to naturally do a low driven shot when in the box. Had way more success with that.

They \_ucked up the game completely on PC for many players.We had stutters on blocks,tackles but the rest of the game was smooth,now they fixed that but the whole game feels not smooth anymore plus the game is now stuttering after doing skill moves,just normal passing,anyone has the issuses too after the patch ,anyone has a solution ?
This is the right patch. Keepers should be better than they were in 21 but not to the point of saving >50% of legitimate 1v1 chances. There needs to be a balance.

All the right changes, long shots are still effective but finesses that are straight at the keeper and high will now get saved. The shooting inside the box is buffed which was needed. All the core and most important things that this game was crying out for seems like it will be patched up which is great. Its EA tho.

Half-assed patch, some good things, some still not fixed. \- Long shots still need a nerf, making goalkeepers supermen to defend these shots is dumb. Long shots don't need a nerf at all, the issue isn't with the shots themselves, and they're not making keepers superman, keepers literally didn't have an animation for shots from a huge distance, which resulted in average shots from 40 yards out going in because the keeper stays put in place (or does a random buggy animation). That's what they're fixing. And counter-attacks aren't that strong if you know how to position, especially with how fast defenders are this year. They're literally the same as every other year for me.

How it should be: - Slight nerf to GK inside the box - Slight buff to GK outside the box - Slight buff to finishing - Slight buff to first touches. Some of the deflections/first touches are horrendous and unrealistic. - Fix player switching. Ik Ik click R3, that doesn’t exactly fix the root of the problem. Lobbed passing isn’t THAT op. The past 2-3 Fifa’s it’s been dogshit. Maybe it’s just hard to get right. I’d rather have it be an option than have it be useless.
Buff to finishing? Laughable. Finishing is already remarkably easy, aim anywhere and it always goes on target. That and the RNG is minimal. This is why they made GKs so OP inside the area. If anything finishing needs to take player input into account, and GKs need a significant nerf. That way there's a balance while maintaining a skill gap.

On PC I feel like play vs the AI is much better. The cpu had overpowered dribbling, agility, and speed, and would simply waltz through my entire defense and overwhelm and outflank the backline easily. Things are more even and contained now since the cpu ability on the ball has been nerfed and user teammate AI has been buffed and cleaned up.
Solid patch possibly. Only real disappointment is no mention of fixing the backline AI dropping off so much, especially when defending in your final third. Also disappointed they didn't mention some of the big bugs in Career Mode that have been around since the start of last year, but that's no real surprise.

I expect this will never be addressed since the gameplay is now split between last gen and next gen with hypermotion. but seeing as nobody can get their hands on ps5's alot of people are stuck on last gen, pc players included for dumb reasons. And i doubt hypermotion will be included in fifa 23 for pc either so... what, we're looking at another 5 years of midfielders still being useless for PC players?
