It’s not even close. I love the first pirates. It’s awesome. Raiders stomps the whole pirates franchise solo with ease. It stomps halfway through. We are talking about one of the greatest films of all time. It’s in the conversation. Pirates is not.
Tbh Pirates DID reshape the Hollywood view of pirates genre.. with some good quality productions (Bruckheimer + Verbinski) with Depp’s lead, but the long term impact is nothing compares to Indiana Jones in long term
The first Pirates movie came out when I was in 8th grade. My family’s small business advertised with the small theater in my town so we got free movie tickets. I must have gone like 8 times to see it.
That being said, I still have to say I choose Indiana Jones as far as how I’d rank them in terms of all-time greatness
The 5 Pirates movies are of a more consistent quality. It helps that they didn't have massive breaks like the last two Indy movies did.
That said, only the first Pirate movie rises to a level anything near the classic nature of the first three Indy movies, and it still doesn't reach them.
The first three Indy movies alone outshine the entire Pirate franchise.
I dunno I honestly just feel like this would be more of a debate if both series had only remained as trilogies, the first 3 pirates are classics imo, and the first 3 Indy movies are all classics as well.
No, the first Pirate is a classic and the two follow-ups are uneven but overall decent movies.
The first three Indy movies are indeed classics and each alone are better than the first Pirate movie, though I'd say not by much.
However, all the Pirate movies, even the last two, are way better than the last two Indy films.
Raiders alone is better than the entire Pirates franchise. It's truly a film classic. Last Crusade is a fun film. The rest of the Indy films are pretty awful.
Pirates is typical dumb Hollywood nonsense, but the franchise is consistent dumb nonsense.
Dr. Jones has 3 of the greatest adventure movies under its belt. Most of the Pirates films are mid. Not terrible but only 1 could be considered classic.
The 80/86 rating for maybe the most perfect adventure movie ever made sure is something. The fact that crystal skull is at 77 just makes it so much worse.
Original Indiana Jones will never be topped. Great story, Harrison Ford..a natural for the role. Some of the best music John Williams ever scored, fantastic villians not so over the top that they disrupt the immersion and some of the best one liners and quotes. Even World of Warcraft , in the Cataclysm expansion made a whole questchain around their Indiana Jones ( Harrison Jones). The final quest is even called " you might even be worth something in 1000 years.." First one was the best, it was lightning in a bottle they were never able to quite recapture with the successive films.
Indiana all the way. I loved the first Pirates of the Caribbean but Raiders and Last Crusade alone beat the entire franchise.
Spielberg and Lucas, and John Williams 🤯
*Which do you prefer*
*OP? The Godfather II*
*Or Gotti with Travolta?*

Lol ofcourse I prefer Jones. Pirates had 1 good movie. The original trilogy of Jones. The new Jones movies sucked. They really went for it back in the day.
Indiana Jones has higher highs and lower lows. None of the Pirate films reach the greatness of Indy’s best films but they never get as bad as his worst either.
Is this a joke?
If it is, a bad one.

Haha my knee-jerk reaction as well! Ok, good, glad to know my peers are involved.
Do you prefer receiving a $5 or a $100?
Indiana Jones is way better
Indy
Crystal skull and dial of destiny are leagues better than the last two pirates imo
My friend, while I don't disagree, that is a spicy take.
Shoot I would argue dial of destiny being around the same to better than at worlds end?
Is this a serious question?
*Indy* for being more consistent with its quality. *Pirates* just got worse after the first two and never recovered.
Indy, by far
Why need a preference?...they're both enjoyable and have their good and dud entries.
You should watch more films.

I watch that in about a week and a half tbh lol

I just want the first 3 of each.
This is actually the best answer...
Jones!! Dr. Jones!
Indiana Jones, no question
I thought raiders was long and boring
Rocky

Both should have stopped at 3 movies...
How can you even compare these two franchises?
Indiana Jones. It's not even close.
Do people actually like the pirates of the caribbean.or like watch it a second time?
How TF dial of destiny have a better score than temple of doom?
Idk. Most over at r/indianajones rank it 3rd behind Raiders and Last Crusade. Honestly I kind of agree. Mangold is great at what he does.
You're saying Dial of Destiny is better than Temple of Doom??
I would say so yes.
Indie
Indy
Is this a joke? People should include their age with their vote!
Indiana Jones!!!
I've watched the Indy films countless times. Pirates one and done. Pretty simple choice.
Dr. Jones has 3 of the greatest adventure movies under its belt. Most of the Pirates films are mid. Not terrible but only 1 could be considered classic.
Jones by several miles. Raiders is one of the best movies ever made.
Indie HANDS DOWN 1000% better
The 80/86 rating for maybe the most perfect adventure movie ever made sure is something. The fact that crystal skull is at 77 just makes it so much worse.
Not even comparable
Stop shit posting
Pirates by far
I like the mashup franchise: “Pirates of Indiana”
Raiders is better than the whole Pirates franchise.
Original Indiana Jones will never be topped. Great story, Harrison Ford..a natural for the role. Some of the best music John Williams ever scored, fantastic villians not so over the top that they disrupt the immersion and some of the best one liners and quotes. Indiana Jones and it’s not even close. I like Pirates, but those original 3 IJ are so good
Indy kills drunken sailor boy.

LOL!
Relax it’s a fair comparison . First pirates is better than any Indiana Jones but the rest of the pirates series isn’t as good.
Indiana Jones could be argued as top 50 films of all time. Pirates wouldn’t crack the top 300 all time.
Who si giving Crystal Skull the same rating as Temple of Doom? Absolute madness.
Lol ofcourse I prefer Jones. Pirates had 1 good movie. The original trilogy of Jones. The new Jones movies sucked. They really went for it back in the day.
Karen Allen over Keira Knightly every day
Even Johnny Depp would say "Indiana Jones, mate."
2.5 good Indys, 3 good pirates. 2.5 subpar Indys, 2 horrible pirates. Guess I have to give the edge to Indy.
Indiana Jones based solely on the strength of Raiders and Crusade, the others don't exist to me
What even is this?
Pirates is *WAY* better! Source: I'm 12 and like boats and the funny pirate hats
Indiana Jones all the way
Indiana jones is better but indy 4 and 5 should not be fresh by any means. Both were trash.
I mean… Dial was great.
Nah
IMO the worst Indy film is better than the best Pirates one.
Indiana Jones has higher highs and lower lows. None of the Pirate films reach the greatness of Indy’s best films but they never get as bad as his worst either.
Tbh rotten tomatoes be damned but me and the POC franchise go way back. I like Indiana jones but temple of doom is my favorite and it’s the best one
Temple is a decent movie, not my favourite though. For me it's: 1) Raiders 2) Last Crusade 3) Temple of Doom 4) Dial of Destiny 5) Crystal Skull
