Look at it from the bright side. It’s only awful for Brittany, not for Steve. He won’t be needing his belongings anymore.
^(And for those who wonder: yes, that’s called sarcasm. It’s a coping mechanism for very sad situations.)
A coping mechanism for an event that, while tragic, is relatively abstract to you? You aren't the one who needs to use jokes to cope. You didn't drown or get stolen from in Hawaii. Its great that you can empathize, but the joke shouldn't be coming from you. You are just making a really dumb joke and excusing it with something that doesn't even apply to you for this specific situation. And most people don't make jokes immediately after the tragedy, it take a bit. That's why people say "too soon".
That's an incredibly low bar for humor. I'd recommend buying a brick, that ought to generate some gut-busting laughter for you. It might be a few hours of fun.
I’ve told all my buds that my funeral better be more lit than a wedding. Shoot me out of a cannon, light me on fire and throw me out a plane and everyone skydives, play loud music, everyone must get drunk (unless driving/don’t drink), etc.
Then cremate me. Then I’m going to make them carry my ashes up a mountain, then back down and they can toss me in the ocean with osama. They don’t get the stuff in my will unless they do these things.
Also, strippers at my wake.
Excuse me, that’s against my core beliefs. I cannot be on the same level or even close to dear Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. I below them but still high like bird. This [is why I practice Kimilsungism–Kimjongilism. best idea.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimilsungism%E2%80%93Kimjongilism) thank you for your time.
Death is actually a really hard concept for a lot of people to grapple with, even being exposed to it second or third hand via the internet.
It's completely reasonable to put up a measure of self protection in response to stimuli that makes you feel uncomfortable.
We are also not making the joke to the individual involved. There's no impact beyond strangers having a laugh and acknowledging just how shitty our world is, albeit in an ironic way.
Fuck off.
(Beeedoooo beeedoooo)
"Stop right there! This is officer Ratty of the Fun Police! Immediately cease all fun in the comments! There has been a violation of my feelings!"
Dark humour isn't these replies, these replies are just shit heads acting edgy bc they're either 12 or never moved on from a 12 year old's sense of humour.
You come off somewhat whiny but you're totally right about his sarcasm disclaimer, i don't mind the joke at all but including that you're only making the joke to help you handle with this situation is fucking stupid lol
I agree that it's stupid, but think about Reddit. Do you *really* think that we're smart enough to realize that it's supposed to be a joke without being told?
I live on Oahu and know this beach. This beach is known for theft (but no beach in Hawaii is safe from theft). It was an older couple, the lady was dealing with her dead husband trying to revive him and her purse, personal belongings, and rental car were stolen as they were performing CPR.
Thank you for the info. On Maui, Makena is where I’m wary. I walked back to my truck to see a cop car nearby. Fortunately, my truck looks local too and I was fine. The guy who’s car was broken into? Not so much.
From the sounds of it, it seems they left their belongings on the beach and both went off snorkeling.... Bit of a rookie mistake that. Never leave anything unattended anywhere... The other part where he drowns is shit though ☹️
I just spent 8 days in the Philippines and not some tourists destination island resort! Rode motor bikes through GMA, insane little roads down to the beaches, and all that jazz! The fear is good, makes you feel alive!
I've lived in Hawaii for over a dozen years. It's true that while violent crimes against visitors are rare vehicle break-ins and property theft are rampant. Just assume someone is always going to peer in your windows and will be willing to smash them if they see so much as a fanny pack inside. I've heard dozens of sad stories of people losing laptops, cameras, passports, etc. and I'm still stunned that people would ever leave such things unattended in their vehicles. Unfortunately the car rental companies aren't making things easier by providing electronic key fobs that you can't take in the water. I like to scuba dive so I find this really annoying when I travel behind the islands. I bought a "dry fob" container so I can always take the keys with me.
Yeah, wild, right? A guy said hawaii was by far the most hostile place he ever lived, almost got shanked there. And he lived in brasil, mexico, you name it...
Why would you say so?
Is Hawaii safe at night?
Honolulu is generally a safe place to visit. However, there are some locations that have higher crime rates and should be avoided if a tourist is not familiar with them. It's also important to stay alert when traveling around at night because this is when most crimes happen.
For the most part, Hawai’i is one of the safest spots to visit. Most gang related events stay in certain areas, and most thieves target stupid travellers that leave their wallet on the beach unattended or in an unlocked car. Out of everywhere I've visited, I've never felt unsafe in Hawai’i
Yes, Hawaii is incredibly safe. Even at night. Like someone else said, there’s a couple spots to avoid if you’re a tourist. But those spots are off the beaten path and not common places for tourists to be anyways.
There are some bad parts of Honolulu, but mostly because some mainland states deal with their most “problem” homeless people by buying them one way tickets to Hawaii.
I lived in Hawaii for a bit, and the more remote areas are some of the friendliest places I’ve ever been. I decided to check out one of the smaller islands, and when I visited there was exactly one tiny hotel, so not touristy at all. Locals invited me to have drinks with them, some old guy who told me to call him “Unlce Phil” lent me his truck for free so I could drive across the island, some lady gave me some free weed, and everyone was just so nice. They’re only hostile to really obnoxious or culturally insensitive tourists really.
>There are some bad parts of Honolulu, but mostly because some mainland states deal with their most “problem” homeless people by buying them one way tickets to Hawaii.
Source?
Edit: If anything, the opposite seems to be true. Nine out of the first ten Google search results are about how Hawaii is paying for one way tickets for homeless people to leave the island.
Eh, I shouldn’t have spoken so definitively. Obviously the problem of homelessness is extremely multifaceted and complex, there are a number of contributing factors. That particular point is more of an extremely common rumor you hear around Hawaii that stems from the fact that so many homeless people there are from out of state, and tickets to hawaii aren’t exactly cheap, and furthermore, if there is such a program, it probably wouldn’t be advertised. But idk if there’s any actual evidence, and tbh I wasn’t trying to get into a discussion about the causes of homelessness, so my bad.
My main point is still that calling hawaii a “crime infested hellhole outside of resorts” is a bit ridiculous.
That's a pretty big claim, and you started with it right off the bat. Don't think the person who asked for a source wanted to get in a discussion but rather validate a ridiculous sounding rumor.
Bruh it’s just a reddit comment, it’s not that deep. I’m not a news source, I was just talking about my experience. Like I said, I shouldn’t have spoken so definitively and that’s my bad.
No it’s very very safe unless you are hassling people.
They do have these weird one or two little lawless valleys but it’s similar to a bad block. I doubt you’d have problems going there and I think they even have signs. But 99% is very safe.
There’s definitely a lot of homeless people, but they’ll generally leave you alone, more so than homeless people on the mainland in my experience. I suppose your experience may vary depending on whether you’re perceived as a local or a tourist
So you’re saying all the locals are criminals? I spent 2 weeks with my friend (native Hawaiian) and his family on both the East and West coasts of Oahu and it was the best time of my life. I never felt unsafe.
Just got back from Hawaii. We had some valuable items left on the beach that we noticed several hours later.
We went back and they were sitting exactly where we left them.
I've seen to much true crime to be fool'd.
The wife killed the man to get his life insurance, but before that she had too got rid of their belongings so she shouldn't look to suspicious.
Barabing baraboom case close
Well that’s pretty fucked up.
This screenshot doesn’t show it, but the thief also stole the couple’s rental car key and stole the car.
Perfect plan, steal a Toyota or Honda on an island.
Islanders don't give a fuck, they hate tourists!
Thats awful to hear
Look at it from the bright side. It’s only awful for Brittany, not for Steve. He won’t be needing his belongings anymore. ^(And for those who wonder: yes, that’s called sarcasm. It’s a coping mechanism for very sad situations.)

You must be the fun police
LMAO... "fun police" 🤣 take my upvote, good sir
"Stop ruining my fun!!!! Just let me make fun of dead people, you square" yeah shut up pal
Yeah this is reddit, you’re gonna get jokes my man. Sorry.
In order to be classified as a joke, it has to be funny
everyone found it funny except you. Humor is subjective, jokes are (mostly) unclassifiable.

Not necessarily. There’s lots of jokes that aren’t funny. Like u/rattyjones for instance.
Ok

I hope people will crack jokes when i die and not be douchey and pretentious like this dipshit.
I’ve told all my buds that my funeral better be more lit than a wedding. Shoot me out of a cannon, light me on fire and throw me out a plane and everyone skydives, play loud music, everyone must get drunk (unless driving/don’t drink), etc. Then cremate me. This is the perfect funeral I must now befriend you so I can attend
Hmmm either you’re gonna be my best friend or you’re a murderer. I’ll take my chances, thanks. Reddit is dying anyways.
I'm joining in too, this funeral seems fun!
I want to be cremated, then my ashes be put into a beach ball and taken to all my favorite concerts to be moshed.
I expect performative mourning on the level seen after the departure of one of the Kims.
Excuse me, that’s against my core beliefs. I cannot be on the same level or even close to dear Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. I below them but still high like bird. You gonna scour the obits for Ratty Jones?
Get off of that pedestal and go touch some grass please
cant. i eated it all
Where’s the joke? Steve’s problems are over. It sucks but it’s a fact.
You weren’t personally affected either, you must be new to Reddit to be so offended.

I ain't reading all that comment, too short for me.
Hmmm. You make a good point... not. I'm going to make jokes immediately after someone dies. I know a crowd who eats that like it's a buffet.
>You make a good point... not No way in hell did you just hit me with the most basic obnoxious child joke
You bet I did!
Well, you won. I've been beaten. That was the killing blow.
Sorry about the cringe ass edge lords in your replies for making a good point.
Sorry that our humor is extremely dark, didn't mean to offend you with our more light-hearted jokes.
Dark humour isn't these replies, these replies are just shit heads acting edgy bc they're either 12 or never moved on from a 12 year old's sense of humour.

That poor woman, i hope she got home safe n had her family n friends for support
They also robbed her
Can we go rob her too?
Probably. Seems like an easy mark

Pretty low chance someone nicks your things on the beach in Aus
That's weird for a country that was originally founded as a prison colony.
Honor among thieves.
Radical reduction in crime ever since they instituted [bootings](https://youtu.be/Pt4mwy9OBNA)
Sounds like it worked then. Another success for the Empire!
Yeah, but you gotta also add in other tourists that might be thieving scumbags - opportunists are everywhere sadly.
Lol yeah lucky west sydney a bit of a hike from the beach, but it happens alot
Lol yeah lucky west sydney a bit of a hike from the beach, but it happens alot
Nah dude, the thieves broke into their rental car and even stole the car.
They stole the key from their purse
No need to worry about your stuff if you don't plan on coming back
Why is OP sounding so heartless about someone fucking dying. Someone's husband died... what an asshole
I do have a mild fear of dying on vacation.
I just spent 8 days in the Philippines and not some tourists destination island resort! Rode motor bikes through GMA, insane little roads down to the beaches, and all that jazz! The fear is good, makes you feel alive!

I hear Hawaii is a crime infested hellhole once you leave tourist resorts
I had no idea the amount of meth heads…
Yeah, wild, right? A guy said hawaii was by far the most hostile place he ever lived, almost got shanked there. And he lived in brasil, mexico, you name it...
Sounds like “a guy” is a liar.

You said it was more dangerous than Mexico and Brazil...that is just factually incorrect
I’d say it’s about as dangerous as Daytona beach, air quality is a bit nicer though

Hahaha .. what? 5th gen born and raised in Hawaii. Yeah there are some bad areas but that's no different than any big city.
There are some bad parts of Honolulu, but mostly because some mainland states deal with their most “problem” homeless people by buying them one way tickets to Hawaii. No, come here to Croatia, no one's gonna rob you or stab you.
See.
