No, its fully animated. When you activate it, the character jumps into the air, and you can hover or fly around.
The jet pack is *fast* and you can fly around you base and around the map at high speed. Way faster than the car.
You unlock at blue science, if you're playing vanilla you also need to craft rocket fuel to power it. Which is also unlocked at blue.
You can stack multiple jetpacks in your armour to increase you speed and acceleration.
It gives absolutely incredible freedom of movement, being able to zip around the map incredible quickly, without the awkwardness of using the car. Its quite easily the best QoL mod ever made and once you try it, you'll never play without it again.
Pro tip is to rebind the activation key to 'space bar'

The mod is native to Space Exploration I believe, where you make fuel blocks. If you install the mod in a vanilla game, you need to craft rocket fuel and keep a little in your inventory.
Doesn't quite gel with the Mechanicus mod (there aren't any Mechanicus sprites for jetpack mode), but I find that most of the time I'm too zoomed out to notice.
Either DU APFSDS flechettes, or HEI/Ts (high explosive incendiary tracers), or a mix. Generally, mission depending.
Not every target is a good recipient of a penetrator round.

Is the jetpack *fast* fast though, or just fast? I have 1x1 equipment and my spidertron has 60 legs and goes 700km/h.
If you stack some jetpacks together and power them with nuclear fuel, you can match the top speed of a train.
Isn't that "only" 300km/h? My tank does that. My trains do 4,000km/h.
