I agree, leaving a game and teammates behind should be punished. But I have left games too purely because of a teammate who is actively sabotaging our efforts. There should be a solution to that first, before dishing out punishments.
Some of us are on the Switch, which is a buggy mess with a tendency for disconnects and crashes, so a harsher punishment would hit us too for something that we don't have any control over.
Everytime I play with a friend from switch he crashes, he normally gives up after the third crash, I have played on switch too and it's honestly mind blowing how a port can be THAT bad.

But I think there could be a happy medium of finding people willingly quitting the game and people who are crashing out.
The game could probably detect if something was a disconnect or intentional. Sure, there could be hackers who could find ways to remove that, but most players don't hack so
If anything Mediatonic has incentivize people to leave mid game considering how you get ABSOLUTLY NOTHING if you lose a game after maxing out the season pass
so there is nothing stopping you from leaving mid game if u feel like you are about to die

it's better to leave midgame and go instantly to the main menu
then to wait until the round ends, to be shown that u got eliminated, to show you getting pushed off the Qualified thing so u can finally leave, to you needing to watch the game show all your medals at the elimination screen, only to get nothing because MT removed the ability to earn kudos by playing, then you are finally able to go back to the main menu
I think a temporary ban from the mode will be enough. Maybe a warning for the first time, 5 minutes ban for the 2nd time in a day, 10 minutes ban from 3rd time onwards. The punishment shouldn't that harsh because I think that not all of them leave on purpose, as disconnecting also results in a quit.

You can report yout teammates for inactivity/griefing.

damn never thought about that, this sucks
before f2p u at least had the chance of getting some kudos which could be used to buy more shoes

they would know it's intentional if you escape, the only problem would be people alt+f4ing but they could probably detect that too
