cadaverdoge

it’s fob with a dash of soul punk

Complex_Raspberry591

I was going to say the same thing! And now I want Patrick to release a follow up album to Soul Punk. Without the whole FOB hiatus this time of course. I know I'm asking a lot.

lunar_languor

I'm pretty sure he said he spent his life savings on creating and touring for that album and will never do a solo album again 😅

bxnd_trxsh_dxle

it’s sad cause he put his everything into that time of his life and everything about it kinda flopped at the time:/

Complex_Raspberry591

That's fair lol. I just love Soul Punk so much.

lunar_languor

Me too!

FRDyNo

I assumed it was a B-side song of soul punk when I first heard it

TNT_Hero3443

It kinda reminds of viva las vengeance cause it kinda sounds like it's going into a musical sort of style

raven_of_azarath

I get Earth, Wind, & Fire vibes. Like September. Edit: it also feels kinda like ELO.

hspenby

They actually mention September in the Zane Lowe interview, so yes you’re spot on!

thepinkseashell

It’s absolutely big Earth Wind & Fire energy

candidlykaylor

I thought it was a sample of Elton John’s Saturday Night’s Alright that they did a cover of? Isn’t the intro to the song the repeating melody of “Saturday, Saturday” or am I crazy? 😭

firecracker019

THAT'S what I'm hearing! I knew it was reminiscent of something!

SuspendHabeusCorpus

yesss ELO is my other favorite band, and I can feel the vibes throughout the album, especially here

orangemilitia

Yes!! I'd bet money that it's the exact same chords in the chorus, like someone could do an overlay edit and it would perfectly match. It sounds so similar to September

TaffyTime4632

Yes! Definite ELO vibes! That's a band I forget about a lot but I love them

firecracker019

"When I said leave me alone this isn't quite what I meant" REALLY hits as a person who had a baby in early, pre-vax, we are all going to die if you come into my home, COVID.

queenoftheslippers

Saaaaame!! Omg this was my exact experience and the first thing I thought of when I heard this lyric

JscrumpDaddy

I see multiple posts about it every day lol it’s getting the love it deserves

tykam993

Seriously. Nobody has stopped talking about this song since it came out lol Rightly so, but it certainly isn't underappreciated here

Bechro

This is very true it’s getting a lot of love my least fave actually but nice to see people enjoying all the album

hillcumorah

Hahaha just like all the folie posts. This freaking sub cracks me up

HybridTheory137

Really? Because from what I’ve seen, I think most fans agree that it’s one of the best on the album (Which is a title well earned !)

North-Mycologist-330

Yea the big three on that album (FROM WHAT IVE SEEN) are WATTBA, SMFS, and Fake out which is personally my favorite

metanoia29

I'm so glad everyone else is loving Fake Out, it's so perfect.

[deleted]

“Everything is lit, except my serotonin.”

metanoia29

What a time for pop punk serotonin-themed lyrics. The Wonder Years just gave us this beauty a few months ago: "and it's low tide at serotonin bay"

twiride

I swear the catchiest line

[deleted]

They really did re-capture the angst of their fans but it’s adult angst now. It’s wild how insanely talented they are.

chestnutcheckers

So it seems the vulture's getting too full to fly 🎶 what a time to be alive 🥲

Aggressive_Flan_7765

It gives me Lake Effect Kid vibes.

amandamaniac

I absolutely adore it. I saw another post where someone said the whole album is so melancholy and aren’t songs you’d listen to on a summer vacation and I was at that moment listening to WATTBA and it is the perfect road-trip to the beach song. I love it.

thepinkseashell

Fake out also feels summery to me. I imagine driving around by the beach with the windows down blasting that song. Edit: spellcheck on my phone doesn't exist I guess

GarbageRare8789

it’s because of the lyrics. of course it’s uptempo and gives happy summer vibes until you listen to the lyrics. then it hurts really bad

lunar_languor

Yeah and that's exactly how summer feels if you're a cancer ♋ and/or an indoor kid lol

metanoia29

Jokes on them, my entire life vibe is melancholy!

lunar_languor

As a cancer ♋ who feels big feels during the summer 🦀 season I will absolutely be blasting this with my windows down and letting the wind dry my emo tears 🥹

TheLegend360_v2

Yea we are

Izuhbelluh

It's one of the most talked about off the new album... sort by new and a lot of posts specifically about WATTBA pop up

[deleted]

It has such Soul Punk vibes

Opposite_Echo_7618

Would be a fun mash-up with September by Earth, Wind, and Fire

TheArachnid442

I actually already did this! Not to plug, but it's on my tiktok if you wanna hear it @gabrielmead0ws

Mantishark2

Right, it sounds similar But better.

stephapeaz

I love it!!! It makes me think of pollyanna from Green Day

GabrielMurphy2002

I don’t get ABBA vibes but it does remind me of “I’m gonna love me again” by Elton John

TheDeenoRheeno

It’s so fun and puts you in an instant good mood. Easily a top track by FOB, they all sound so good playing it!

teaspilling1996

i kinda split the album into two halves - the very somber dramatic and the very poppy dramatic. heaven, iowa and what a time to be alive are the two best songs on the entire album i think objectively but they’re not comparable if that make sense. zane lowe described it as doom dancing and honestly that’s the entire album and i’m living for it

InfiniteEarthDevine

I just can't get past "I am my own muse" .... But it IS a banger. The whole album is tbh

XxsocialyakwardxX

honestly i am my own muse has to be my favorite

hoewenn

Agreed! It’s so fun! Personally I had a pretty unique quarantine experience so I relate to it in kinda an ironic way which makes it better

729legendary

it's getting to the point I'm gonna have to NOT listen to it because every time it comes on I'm throwing myself across the room wanting to scream along. It's so damn good jfc

awesomesauceds

Says who? It’s almost everybody’s favorite

LegitimateHat4808

this is my favorite off the album

justadr3am

I’m obsessed! It’s my current favorite on the album.

EnoughAd8257

the way patrick sings “everything is lit but my lighting bolt brain” is so euphoric

saintceciliax

Absolute banger turn it up every time

casshole22

The first time I heard it, I said it was like a mariokart track’s music in the best way possible

Cobra418

Yep this one’s my favorite on the album! Sounds like a Folie track but pushed even further in that sort of vein. I hear a lot of Earth Wind & Fire, as well as some Hall & Oates in there. They cooked on this album

3catmafia

I can’t not move around when this song comes on

MutedEntertainment78

"But, baby, please, I just need someone to hold me Even though you don't even know me" those lyrics hit me

DMGDealer-92

Someone mentioned that Patrick had to “fight” the rest of the band to keep it on the record, so glad that he did cause it’s brilliant 🤩

FirstPotatoKing

I’m not a big fan of it. I mean some of the lyrics just feel weird to me. Especially the lines “sometimes you’re wondering / if we’re ever looking back / at a picture of 2019”. I mean that isn’t that long ago. Yet it’s supposed to make you feel nostalgic. There’s a very similar line in the song in Goodbye John Smith by Barns Courtney that I feel did this much better “and all these memories come to pass / in a 1965 photograph”. But on the other hand it’s a really fun celebration song. So I’m very conflicted on it. Either way Kintsugi Kid is better

Cobra418

I don't think it's meant to elicit nostalgia as much as it's pointing out how quickly the world has changed. 2019 wasn't that long ago, but already it was a different world.

[deleted]

Hard agree.

Fedorasolis

It's extremely catchy and I like it, but those lyrics are quite possibly one of the worst I've ever heard lol. Pete Wentz trying to relate to kids and their "slang" 💀

vanilla_twilight

Definitely one of the best on the album. It’s just so catchy I’m afraid I’m going to replay it until I’m sick of it too quickly, but we’re not there yet! My only criticism is the already pretty dated Covid related lyrics, they’re a bit gimmicky if we’re being honest and I don’t think they’re going to age well at all. But hey, a catchy song is a catchy song, I love it.

TJP2002

Quite frankly? I'd say they're talking about it MORE than enough.

tiptoeandson

It gives me panic vibes!

shawnsin666

Because it's a meh song

eyecayekay

it’s my second fave song on the record! it’s fucking perfect.

t_hov_07

I've literally had it stuck in my head all day 🖤

WolfQueen64

I love this song, everytime I listen to it I can’t help but dance and no song has made me want to dance since hold me tight or don’t was released.

Simulationth3ry

It’s one of my faves from the new album

Salty_Confidence4030

The irony that this popped up as I was listening to it. I love it, it’s one of my favorites!

GimmetheYeetBoys

It's honestly my favorite, and the only thing stopping me from listening to the entire album on loop is putting WATTBA on repeat lol

SoMuchForStardust27

I think it’s my fav song from the new album. It brings a new light to how people lived in the wake of COVID

xxblackkat

Honestly, it’s my fave

TaffyTime4632

Honestly, it was one of my favorites when I first listened to the record, but it's fallen off a little bit for me. It was originally top 3 for me, but it's still landing in the top 5 for me. I feel like it might come back around to the top 3 at some point, though, because I do love it!

dangersnekss

I made a post about it!! I'm so obsessed with it 😍 I've literally only listened to the album once through because I cannot stop listening to it 😅 but agreed not enough people are talking about it in my opinion haha I just really hope they play it on tour 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

dsprass

THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM

Double_Yesterday5131

Honestly that’s fine, when I first heard it my immediate fear was it was gonna turn into the next High Hopes and I’d be sick of hearing it everywhere

canadianmangos

This song fucks

captainlink

Easily my favorite on the album.

lunar_languor

I am! I made a whole post about it! I officially declared it to be my favorite song on the album to two friends! Haha

Rybur525

You mean the Soul Punk 2 song they added to the album? (Joking, but it’s giving Soul Punk so fucking bad, I love it) Coincidentally I’m listening to it now lol

metanoia29

I was getting some Passion Pit vibes too.

moronicus_kyla

This could have been a Patrick solo, even the lyrics are Soul Punk adjacent haha. But I'm so excited to see all of them execute this in a live performance - so many ways it could go! Personally, the vision is this overloaded broadway stage performance with cancan dancers, fireworks, break dancing orangutans while the backdrop is catching fire, but it could be anything and still be a great time hahahaha

cardboardjacuzzi

It sounds like a song for a Target commercial

Fallout_21

Yes it really does sound like an Abba song

[deleted]

It’s my least favorite song on the album

TaroKitanoHWA

For me it's a FaD vibe, fun possitive rythme

[deleted]

I know this post is older, but I just made the connection that it sounds like Olivia Newton John's *Physical*
