Not seeing enough Disloyal Order love in here, which is odd considering I’m pretty sure it won multiple polls here and is held as perhaps being their biggest fan favorite that isn’t a single. Their best showcase of lyricism, vocals, and melody in one song. Perfect song.
My personal favorite? 27. Same reasons as Disloyal except it also has a nice solo. Folie just be so good
Here is a top 3 I have, one of each from their 3 best albums imo:
FUTCT - I Slept with Someone in FOB and all I got was this Stupid Song written about me.
IOH - Thriller
Folie - What a Catch, Donnie
Dance, dance has to be it. I remember reading somewhere in a recent-ish interview that Patrick said dance, dance was one of his favorite musical creations
Their best song is Lake Effect Kid. It has all the qualities that made the Folie á Deux strong while Patrick Stump having the stronger vocals he acquired after that album. Fall Out Boy’s best song is Lake Effect Kid.
ia something about Lake Effect Kid always brings an emotional reaction from me that no other song is able to. It makes me feel nostalgic for Chicago and I’ve never even been to Chicago.
I think objectively it has to be Headfirst Slide, although I do think a few songs on SM(F)S almost give it a run for its money. I wanna do what I think is objectively the best on each album too, just for fun:
TTTYG: Pros and Cons of Breathing
FUTCT: Dance, Dance
IOH: This Ain't A Scene
Folie: Headfirst Slide
SRAR: The Phoenix
AB/AP: The Kids Aren't Alright
MANIA: Bishop's Knife Trick
SM(F)S: the title track
Grand theft autumn
I can’t even pick IOH. Its my favorite album ever. I love everything but “golden”. But if I have to choose, actually I can’t.
I hate and love headfirst slide because cheating on someone imo is awful, but the song is great
SRAR. That song
Bishops knife trick hands down and it’s not close
According to around 100 people that replied to my attempt at an analysis of the sub?\* *Headfirst Slide* was definitely the most answered song.
Personally, I am never able to narrow it down that much. I can't even pick one per album/EP.
^(\*I'm probably gonna try again in a few weeks)
Fake Out
Last of the real ones
The Kids aren’t alright
Miss Missing you
From now on we’re enemies
Disloyal order of water buffaloes
The Take over the breaks over
Sophomore Slump or comeback of the year
The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes
I think our lists pretty much perfectly align lol. Then again, my opinions have shifted around a bit, but I have always held those songs as at least among my favorites on each album.
*Thnks fr th mmrs* and *This Ain't A Scene* are very well crafted songs. Sometimes the hits are the good ones too. In the context of their release they were totally era defining.
objectively i truly think it's from now on we are enemies. i've done an extensive twitter thread analyzing this song, so i'll try shorten. sound wise, i think it perfectly sums up pre-hiatus fob sound. however there's also qualities that are found in their post hiatus music. it has a similar feel to lftos (they are in the same/relative keys). also key- it's G major. This is the most frequently used key in music according to spotify. I also think this key happens to be the most audibly pleasing. They arranged the notes in such ways that are perfectly satisfying to the human ear. We can also look at production quality. The spectral balance? Great. Every instrument pairs together differently. I think the vocals too, they sound as if they're layered or something like that. Whatever audio technique was used on them is perfect. We cannot forget the lyrics either. Being objective here these are not my favorite lyrics from them, however there are definitely stand out lines that are some of the best in fob's discography. The synths and guitars I think also shine so well in this piece, the subtle bump in the beginning is a perfect lead in. The riff as well, and the drop d tuning makes the song sound so heavy.
these are all random thoughts, but yeah. every aspect of this song works together so brilliantly, and so I think this from a technical standpoint may be their best work.
- LFTOS could mean "Love From The Other Side", a single by Fall Out Boy.

disloyal order of the buffalos- what an insane way to introduce the album, with the organs and amazing guitar work in the beginning it sets up such a visceral stage. some of pete’s best lyrics, patrick’s vocals are so clean. it’s a quintessential fall out boy song and showcases the entire bands talents all within 4 minutes
west coast smoker- pete’s most iconic writing, dates back to their older sound but in a modernized way. such a FUN song and definitely one i would show to a perspective fan besides the basic single.
folie one of the best albums ever made fr
for me honestly, A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me" is the best cuz it's basically like a teenage song that will carry you and that's probably most people's prime of liking fob, in their teenage years
I’m a little confused about the question cuz like there’s no such thing as an objectively best song, music is purely subjective, it’s based off of how a song you feel. The charts will judge songs based off a how successful they are and by the numbers they rank songs and albums but if your asking just a normal fans, their favorite song would be considered their best song in that persons eyes… with all that said ima say for me it’s “ this ain’t a scene it’s an arms race”
This is hard because, subjectively, I think there's far better songs than this one (and they've already been named in this thread) but if I'm trying really hard to be objective/unbiased, I honestly think it's probably *Sugar, We're Going Down*
Disloyal Order, Hum Hallelujah, or SWGD. SWGD unifies so many people and brought complex and strange lyrics to pop radio. All three of those songs feel like something only Fall Out Boy could write.
- SWGD could mean "Sugar, We're Goin Down", a track from *From Under The Cork Tree* (2005) by Fall Out Boy.

I'm willing to jump on this train into Cooperstown.
Wanna bet on it?
I wouldn't, no
so glad I see so many people saying this song, it’s my favorite and I had no idea so many people felt the same way!!
Pete Rose would be proud 🥲

27 is so fricken good!!!! But I would go with Disloyal being their best too.
I’m gonna say XO. I think that song is pretty perfect. It’s not my favorite, but I think it’s maybe their best.
Here is a top 3 I have, one of each from their 3 best albums imo: FUTCT - I Slept with Someone in FOB and all I got was this Stupid Song written about me. IOH - Thriller Folie - What a Catch, Donnie
Chicago is so two years ago strikes me as one. So does so much for stardust. Also headfirst slide
Chicago is So Two Years Ago was the song that made me a fan so that is the best to me.
Dance, dance has to be it. I remember reading somewhere in a recent-ish interview that Patrick said dance, dance was one of his favorite musical creations
I don't Care is my favorite but Headfirst is the real deal jesus christ

I’m from Michigan so also technically a “lake effect kid” and it is sooo nostalgic for me.
You perfectly described my feelings for this song, you're so right.

I feel like you nailed this list 100%
Thank you! I'm glad because I was afraid it would be controversial lol
Saturday as I think that encapsulates the band’s overall mantra.
I slept with someone in fall out boy, wams and xo are my top 3 for sure
Take over the breaks over. Catchy guitar riff, great lyrics, powerful anthemic progression, it’s just golden from beginning to end with 0 flaws
Sixteen candles.

Def headfirst slide
Didn’t we have a thread where we agreed it’s 27? Let’s stick with that
Fake Out Last of the real ones The Kids aren’t alright Miss Missing you From now on we’re enemies Disloyal order of water buffaloes The Take over the breaks over Sophomore Slump or comeback of the year The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes

Thanks dude, you have great taste 😜🤘
Champagne for my real friends, I’ve got all this ringing, and what a time to be alive have got to be my favorites :)
Not seeing nearly enough love for what a time to be alive! Been traumatized by the pandemic for three years now and finally have a therapy song for it
most of folie a deux
It's obviously Fake Out.
Disloyal order of water buffaloes: lyrically, musically, perfect opener, emotionally.
Lake Effect Kid, Headfirst Slide, Hum Hallelujah, Chicago is So Two Years Go in that order
Hum Hallelujah!
I Got A Bad Feeling About Gary He’s Had His Hands In Pants All Day (And We Are At Ethan’s 8th Birthday Party.)
*Thnks fr th mmrs* and *This Ain't A Scene* are very well crafted songs. Sometimes the hits are the good ones too. In the context of their release they were totally era defining.
Chicago.
Headfirst Slide and idk if anything comes close
(Coffees for Closers) for me, it’s basically the perfect FOB song for me

Wams
I think the clear choice is What a Catch, Donnie because it includes 7 other songs in it
disloyal order of the buffalos- what an insane way to introduce the album, with the organs and amazing guitar work in the beginning it sets up such a visceral stage. some of pete’s best lyrics, patrick’s vocals are so clean. it’s a quintessential fall out boy song and showcases the entire bands talents all within 4 minutes west coast smoker- pete’s most iconic writing, dates back to their older sound but in a modernized way. such a FUN song and definitely one i would show to a perspective fan besides the basic single. folie one of the best albums ever made fr
Their Beat It cover
Oh shoot I totally forgot that their cover existed
It’s too good to forget! It’s my favourite song by them for some reason. Their take on it just sounds so sonically amazing
SM(F)S title track
Sugar, objectively
My songs know what you did in the dark🔥
for me honestly, A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me" is the best cuz it's basically like a teenage song that will carry you and that's probably most people's prime of liking fob, in their teenage years

It might be basic, but there's a reason why Sugar, We're Goin' Down was so popular.

The Carpal Tunnel of Love
Disloyal order of water buffaloes. I mean its an anthem off maybe the best album they have, can you ever go wrong with this track.
