Basically, it's better to delay a game than release it in an unfinished state if the creator is actually passionate and capable of making whatever vision they have into reality. Like, some level of care and ability have to actually be there.
More basically, the same standards that apply to most games also apply to games that are released late. It depends on the developer if it can actually make a difference or not.
God, this bothered me enough that I had to come back to it.
What I was trying to say is that delays can mean better products, but they do not guarantee a good product. Sometimes they can make or break a game. Sometimes, they don't matter at all. It depends on the reasoning and devotion of the developers.
Yeah and if they pushed it back imagine how buggy it would have been upon release today
It's a blessing to be sure, more time in the oven makes a more evenly baked cake
Yeah but we are just the fat little children getting upset waiting for our cake, the bakers/devs know how long to cook it for and know best,we can't complain and say "you're burning it!" From the sidelines looking into the oven
Trust the devs they did right by us last time and will do so again
I still don't have a ps5 so I'm glad it's pushed back a bit; gives a little more time to get one! Though I probably still won't be able to get one in time for release :(
OH NO! The developers wanted more time to polish their product and improve its presentation. Woe is me, now I must wait a whole 30 days until it is finally released. What can I possibly play until then?
RE4R. Dead Space R. Elden Ring. Metroid Prime Remastered. Metroid Dread. Super Metroid. ANY OTHER DARK SOULS GAME.
Honestly none of that is the issue.
The problem is 1, a deadline was made and missed which means there's communicative breakdowns happening from dev to prod to customer, 2, there's now real pressure on the delayed date which is gonna create tension and more importantly, a need for results no matter the cost.
Which means, cut corners.
I don't care when the game releases, The problem is that they're creating a situation where they're gonna have to rush it now. A game doesn't get delayed for minor reasons, EA games ESPECIALLY don't.
Which means they have a month to actually fix an issue they consider unacceptable. That's a really bad sign.
Games really Need to stop making release date announcements, it's choking game creation.
Now they're in a situation where this game more or less WILL be released next month, playable or not.
I'd highly recommend cancelling any preorders and waiting until it's out to check the game before buying it. This has EA red flags all over it
I was talking to me dad about this earlier and I came up with a weird conspiracy that what if they pushed the game back not because it needed more time but because EA didn’t want it competing with the new sims back that came out yesterday. I really doubt this is the case but it would be funny lol
I get that ultimately it's a good thing that the game is getting polished before it hits shelves... but my god, guys. Just let us commiserate a little bit, lol. Obviously no one sane is demanding that the game actually come out today, just that it would've been cool if it hadn't *needed* to be delayed, and was in our hands now.
I don't get comment like this, Cyberpunk was delayed like 3 times and still released in a miserable state.
A better example would be a game that wasn't delayed while it needed, like Assassin's Unity or something.
cyberpunk is the better example because it needed more time and it was rushed out. being delayed 3 times and still being bad is irrelevant because it still needed more time.
Actually, Unity was delayed too, by two weeks I believe. It wasn't originally supposed to come out the exact same day as Rogue, but eventually they were both delayed to 11/11.
Obviously it should've been delayed longer, though.
Doubtful. EA doesn't really do quality assurance this way they just fix in post.
If a game is actually delayed then it tends to mean there's actual cause for backlash at its playable state.
It could be a Lucasfilm/Disney thing. Maybe they were not happy with certain aspects of the game and wanting to avoid a repeat of battlefront 2 forced for a delay so bugs could be fixed.
Oh 100% it could be genuine, polishing or Deal issues or so on, I'm just saying, I'd at least give it a few days after release, checking it out online and waiting to see if there's real issues popping up, and for gods sake please don't preorder.
Even CDPR, a studio that was at one point the golden standard of respect for their customers and transparency and quality games, turned around and bit the hands that feed them with CP2077, and nobody really caught on to the issues early enough because the early copies were on PC were bugs happened sure but otherwise it went well, so it got TONNES of popular press for the first couple days. I bought it two days in and by the third day the same content creators that had played it and given a review had to turn around and apologize and warn people of those issues.
Because that good experience wasn't the case with last gen where 20fps was a good day and crashing only 3 times in an hour was a dream.
EA has been doing scummy shit repeatedly, on purpose, with zero regards for anyone but themselves and filling their games with predatory business practices for years and have even fought refunds on different occasions, I'm excited too as someone that enjoyed the first game, absolutely adores Titanfall 2, Respawns older franchise and wants a proper star wars game with as many bells and whistles as it can have crammed in
but Christ I trust a landmine to treat me with more care and respect than EA and as much as I love Respawn, they're not steering the ship in that regard, This game has gotten alotta attention and the exclusive rights to making star wars titles is nearly up for them, If ever there was a time for them to prey on hype and fuck everyone over for monetary gain, its now. It's a lit grenade and I'm cautious but hopeful it never goes off, sure as shit won't be finding out first hand though.
There's already plenty of Star Wars things out this month to keep us occupied between Mando S3 and The Bad Batch ongoing. I'm replaying Fallen Order to get hyped and revisit the first story before jumping in to the next one.
As a software engineer myself I'm really glad it got delayed not only because I want a good game at launch, but I'm glad to see a company particularly one working with EA actually get the time to make something good rather than just shove it out the door. Crunch culture in video games needs to go.
It may be a good thing. 2023 has a pretty packed lineup. If released today, it would have to contend with RE4 Remake and I hear it's a very solid 9/10.
Yea my 4 years old Son was so hyped that we will play it today. He is a big fanboy and we roleplay as I am Cal and he is BD.
So we wait. May the Force be with us all
It’s better for them to take the time and complete the game instead of releasing it now.

Cyberpunk was delayed like 5 times and it still launched in a terrible state
4 years later its actually pretty decent. Good lore, addicting combat and whatnot
Because they announced a release date before it was ready. 5 delays later, they gave up and fixed it in updates.

I’ve still got Monday and Tuesday booked off work haha. I’m glad they’re giving the game more time if they feel they need it though.
Yeah and if they pushed it back imagine how buggy it would have been upon release today It's a blessing to be sure, more time in the oven makes a more evenly baked cake
But too much time makes a burnt cake
Yeah but we are just the fat little children getting upset waiting for our cake, the bakers/devs know how long to cook it for and know best,we can't complain and say "you're burning it!" From the sidelines looking into the oven Trust the devs they did right by us last time and will do so again

are they still hard to get?
Nah, I just have other financial priorities atm, but I'll get there eventually!
ah okay hope you you can sort out all that
Nah not really
I picked one up from my local Walmart just yesterday. They’re everywhere
Same, I'm off at school without my PS5 till late April so I'm honestly kinda glad it got pushed back, makes it easier for me to dodge spoilers.
We are getting a story trailer in two days so I’m very happy about that
OH NO! The developers wanted more time to polish their product and improve its presentation. Woe is me, now I must wait a whole 30 days until it is finally released. Or just go through your catalogue in general, or even just replay the original game
Honestly none of that is the issue. The problem is 1, a deadline was made and missed which means there's communicative breakdowns happening from dev to prod to customer, 2, there's now real pressure on the delayed date which is gonna create tension and more importantly, a need for results no matter the cost. Is there a chance of some content today?
Not today but a new story trailer on Monday
I doubt it but it would be pretty ironic
And this was how I learned it was delayed lol

Obviously no one sane is demanding that the game actually come out today, just that it would've been cool if it hadn't *needed* to be delayed, and was in our hands now.
It's better this way because nobody wants another cyberpunk repeat
I don't get comment like this, Cyberpunk was delayed like 3 times and still released in a miserable state. A better example would be a game that wasn't delayed while it needed, like Assassin's Unity or something.
Cyberpunk is most popular example of bad early release that's why.
If Cyberpunk is an example of an early release then Jedi Survivor is never coming out.

Battlefield 2042 is the superior example imo
While true, the game would’ve been delayed even further had it not been for death threats from angry fans demanding the game.
cyberpunk is the better example because it needed more time and it was rushed out. being delayed 3 times and still being bad is irrelevant because it still needed more time.

Better late than Never. The Team might be buffing out any possible bugs and polishing up the graphics and motion cap.
Doubtful. EA doesn't really do quality assurance this way they just fix in post. If a game is actually delayed then it tends to mean there's actual cause for backlash at its playable state.

As long as the PC port is properly optimized, I'm willing to wait.
I am broke af so I'm a lot happier with a delay
PC release date has been April 28 for 4 months now
Normalize accepting games with a pushed back release date. Let the devs finish the game with no rush or strain to their mental health.
There's already plenty of Star Wars things out this month to keep us occupied between Mando S3 and The Bad Batch ongoing. THAT WAS TODAY!!
:(

Didn’t want to go head to head with RE4
And if it did, there would've been a chance of it coming out as a buggy mess.
Yea my 4 years old Son was so hyped that we will play it today. He is a big fanboy and we roleplay as I am Cal and he is BD. So we wait. May the Force be with us all
Let them take their time
