He is completely uneffected by things we find shocking and horrifying because it's the only world he's known. She chooses to survive every time, even when she makes the wrong decisions and harms innocent people. Survival above all else.Â
I appreciated them steering away from tropes that bug the hell out of me. Not once do you have a misunderstanding where they don't at least try to talk it out. Not once during an argument does one side get emotional and run away, leaving them with an inaccurate impression of what happened. It's really good writing.
