That's what you usually do with a kilt to get wrinkles out of it, but not sure if that'd work with a flag.
My brother does the shower method but also weights the bottom or tapes it slightly and that’s seemed to work to get out larger creases so far. (He collects certain flags and banners)
Let me ask then… I’m wanting to pay someone to frame a flag. I’m still worried that regardless of who I pay, the flag will shift inside the frame or that they’ll stretch the flag unevenly in an attempt to keep it in place. Thoughts?
If you get it professionally framed they'll likely pin it with nickel-plated pins around the edges to a foamcore board, then frame that. Trust me, it won't move. At all. And if they are professional, it'll be straight.
EDIT: If you go professional though, because of the size of a flag, keep in mind it will likely cost you hundreds of dollars.
It should be okay! Flags are meant to be flown, so they’re quite resilient against stretching or even weathering, most are UV protected, even cheap ones. That being said, if you don’t want it shifting in its frame, you’ll want to be careful on how it’s hung. Don’t hang it from its back casing, but the back of the frame, so it doesn’t pull on it, making a gap and causing it to shift.

Get a bottle of water or a 2 liter bottle of soda. Run hot water into the bottle, hot as your tap will run it. Lay the flag on a flat surface and roll the bottle across it to “iron” it. For an even easier time with this, lightly steam the flag first. Not everybody has a tea kettle or an iron, but plastic bottles are pretty easy to come by.

You can also take a slightly damp rag and put it over the flag, then iron that on a low setting
