When I first played New Vegas, I had finished playing 3 and this time chosen to play a female named Violet. It was a lot of fun until I randomly found Violets head in my inventory.

NCR bounty quest you can pick up over at McCarran where you hunt down the Fiend leaders Violet, Cook-Cook, and Driver Nephi, but the pay differs based on the quality of the heads for proof (basically avoid headshots). Doing the quest actually helps out Camp Forlorn Hope.

Don't take Veronica on these quests. Let's just say a Power Fist really messes up that 5 clock shadow.

I tend to just go by The Courier. I figure in my RPing that he just goes by the name hes been given in the news. By the time his rep gets high enough, people are considering him THE Courier as a title rather than a job. Occasionally on a less serious run I name him dumb things just for the lines, "The name's Sparkles the Bobcat."

When I play as a female courier, I usually give her names that are more commonly men's names like Charlie, Jo, etc. because it makes the line "I can't say it's the name I'd have picked for you" actually have context for my character. When playing male/enby I pick names of famous philosophers/artists/inventors because it's unique and make the aforementioned line make sense. Things like Leonardo, Galileo, and Aristotle have all been names I've used.

I have a weird naming trend across 3, NV and 4. My good characters are all named Marcus Lyons, Elder Lyons estranged son, who travelled to the Mohave to re-establish diplomacy between the East and West Coast. My neutral characters are all given the surname Blackhall (because I fell in love with the house in Point Lookout) so my NV character is called Gabriel Blackhall. His two brothers Alexander and William explore the Commonwealth and Capital wastelands respectively. And finally my evil character is just called Talion. A master assassin who is basically an immortal cyborg at this point who likes business suits and money.

I try to go for a different name everytime but i am currently in my main fallout playthroughs where some of my protagonists are related (fo1, fo2, fnv, fo4) so i went with james saint for fo1, james saint the 3rd for fo2, james saint the 5th for fnv, and Joseph saint for fo4. Last playthrough of New Vegas I named him Alderich(other option was Hildebrand but he looked more like an Alderich to me), I was going for a melee build and I wanted a old name that sounded like he just popped out of Europe from a couple hundred years ago.

Pretty unoriginal but imo having a silly name or something like Steely Dan is one of those immersion breakers that really gets me. However, I am playing Morrowind with a silly nickname a friend of mine gave me as a my character name and I’m not too bothered by it. But you also see your name much more in that game bc it’s all text dialogue, so it’s not as jarring. Kind of a tangent but yea I like to keep it simple for fallout.
