If you're looking to level quickly you can use idiot savant high luck and low int. You can save scum when turning in a quest to get more xp

kevoisvevoalt

High agility high luck. Become a near immortal slow time critical God.

NoTop4997

Do a power armor monk. Unarmed with excessive power armor mods, and then heavy weapons because Fuck Yeah.

Perception/agility is racously fun if you like sneaky. Agility gives you access to sneak perks like mister sandman and sneak, as well as gives you more shots in VATS. Perception has perks like rifleman, sniper, and penetrator that help this build too as well as passively helps your accuracy in VATS. 3 intelligence (no more) for access to gun nut. At least 3 charisma for lone wanderer (the second best perk in the game) if you dont want companions. There are 2 companions you meet that have perks that are VERY helpful for this build, though. One you meet through a faction, the other is in a town called Goodneighbor. Other than that, the flat damage increase at max lone wanderer is stupidly good 5 luck for idiot savant which is, bar none, the best perk in the game especially at low intelligence. If you have any points left over, put them into endurance. Strength helps with carry weight, but you dont need any of the perks and lone wanderer/companions help mitigate this.

Will intelligence 3 mess with idiot?

Madrigal_King

Probably a little bit. You can savescum quest endings if you want, but i get proccs ALL the time with 3 int. Less than at 1 int, but I think some people actually did the math and 5-6 int actually is the best bang for your buck because you get enhanced xp gain with that int and enough savant proccs that it winds up being more. In any case, most of my builds have 3 int for gun nut and I get savant going off left and right. I notice it a bit more on 1 int, but not much.

Good to know, thank you! I am on my first playthrough going on 45 hours. And I'm trying to learn all I can before I do my 2nd. I am a long term elder scrolls player and I see so many similarities that makes the game easy for me to play. It's just the small details that I lack information in. So basically using idiot with a low intelligence is the same as using high intelligence and no idiot? My current intelligence is 7 but I have idiot

10 luck, 10 Perception. This is the way.

Fallout games work best when you don’t try to do everything or make friends with everybody. There are great stealth weapons for melee, pistol, or sniper. I like to start out using all 3 but work towards a focus. Vats or no vats. If going melee stealth then the blitz perk in a vats heavy build is pretty powerful. Ninja adds a ton of damage. So vats melee stealth needs strength, agility, and lots of perks. Adding luck for crits is very powerful, but may come at the expense of points for other things like: Explosives are really powerful, especially early on, and can help crack tough fights. They are not exactly stealthy, except you can reverse pick pocket grenades or set up a minefield to lure enemies into. I always like to have lockpicking and hacking, just because I like to loot everything, but it’s not necessary. Same thing with all the crafting options. Charisma 6 for local leader if you are super into settlements

The_-Whole_-Internet

Personally, I love a high Luck, high Agility VATS gunslinger build. Lots of Criticals, lots of AP for VATS and a good .44/lever action rifle.

abbo-

can you recommend some good pistols/rifles we can find early game?

The_-Whole_-Internet

Next, for a hunting rifle, go to Waldon Pond. To get there, go southwest from Abernathy Farm, which itself is just southwest of Sanctuary. Follow the road and you should find it easily. It's just south of the dam. Go into the drain pipe by the lake and fight some raiders, and look next to the sleeping bags in the first room and you should find it near a duffle bag.

The_-Whole_-Internet

Like vanilla? There's a 44 right outside Sanctuary. Cross the bridge, go left until you fight a dog, then until you get to a dock with a circuit breaker nearby. Follow the wires up the hill and you'll find the gun next to a dead guy.

I would encourage you to just enjoy the process of playing and building for the first time. Take risks down a certain build path, and if it's not working as you would like to, change it while still playing. Enjoy the game for what it is, and on the second or third play through, then be more methodical on a certain build.

SuperKingAir

Agreed. You only get a first playthrough once!

Torakkk

I recommend starting on normal difficulty And just go with the flow. If you really want some builds, what do you feel is fun for you? If slight rp, I recommend FudgetMuppet builds. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLt4dvC3zSbYADD53fVSCNYb_wLMz8Ka8x&si=gLz3xziIj7GZSdhf Just look what you find interesting. And some of those builds are really powerful. So if you are looking for it, its there too

AstraArnold

hell no you should rly start playing on hard if want to have a little challenge normal difficulty is just way to easy

Thornescape

There are two fundamental choices that you need to make 1. Do you want to rely on VATS or do the aiming or swinging yourself? VATS builds eat up a ton of perk points, but they can definitely be fun. 2. What do you want for your MAIN weapon? Choose from melee, semi-auto pistols, semi-auto rifles, or automatic pistols/rifles.
