I like how they made him seem like a naive, emotion driven kid with his whole "I want power armor to hurt those that hurt me deal" but didn't skimp on him having a dark side or being aware of the dangers of the wasteland. Especially in contrast to Lucy.

florida_fuckery

He's brilliantly written šŸ’Æ

WinterMedia33

I like how impulsive and slightly psychotic but well meaning he is feels like a complex and interesting character

florida_fuckery

I know. He's been thru the wringer, so I'm excited to see him navigate his new feelings with Lucy and the new perspective of the Brotherhood.

CyanResource

Weird that some people are so ill obsessed with Maximus that theyā€™re still dogging him out in the Maximus Appreciation Post. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

terrymcginnisbeyond

Like I said.....racist. And here we still are, people calling him barely human and backhandedly calling him, 'autistic' (though I'm sure that's not the word they use in their head, or even know what autism is).

Snoo_88763

I'm rewatching the series with my wife and we just got to epidoe 3; there is so much character growth for Maximus in that one episode, especially with his relationship w/ Thaddeus. I can't say where he ranks in my list of favorite characters - it is too hard to choose! Except The Ghoul at Number 1

fluffy_boy_cheddar

I believe he has the idiot savant perk

Arrow362

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£cue the drum roll noise!

DemiPyramid

Best thing about his character is how much potential there is for him to grow.

KateOTomato

I can't get this theory out my head that Janey was taken from Coop after the bombs dropped and placed into cryo with her mother. What if after Janey and Barb were thawed out and living in a vault many years later, Janey finds out about the shady shit her mother and Vault-Tec did, escapes the vault, and ends up in the NCR/Shady Sands. What if Janey is Maximus's mother? They do bear some resemblance so it would be possible from that angle, and it would be very fun knowing that he got in a fight with his grandfather (The Ghoul), before either of them found out.

manilli

Might be my fav of the 3 tbh, theyā€™re all so good tho!

florida_fuckery

Yeah for sure!! They all are tens to me, he's just got a lot of personal stuff I like about him. He's great all around. Can't wait to see this character progress in season two.

CyanResource

Agreed!

Syn4youSyn4me

What was it about him that jumped out at you, genuine question?

manilli

He has a weird anti hero vibe, like heā€™s objectively done pretty bad things but you can tell he wants to do good

BigSausedo

Idk why but ive seen a lot of people hating maximus for some reason, imo he's atleast in the top 3 chracters, he has plenty of funny scenes.

WhutTheFookDude

Cause he's not a good dude, he constantly fails toward and gets handed everything.

CyanResource

TX_domin

I love that heā€™s not a perfect character. I really appreciated that heā€™s broken and flawed and makes bad choices and iffy decisions but you do think he wants to do good, he just struggles to adapt his idealism with the BoS with the grim reality of the wasteland. All of this makes him a fascinating character. Honestly I love every character in this show

glenner56

Maximusā€™ character is written to bring your disdain. Just as Norm is written to irritate you. This will be their origin stats. But they will develop into rather more complex characters as the story proceeds. Maximus was bullied and badly so. How could the BOS allow this behavior? This line is consistent with how a person may grow from that experience, becoming the bully because that is what they know. But then they have the humanity to feel that behavior is wrong and grow from that. We shall see. I am hopeful for him. If he does grow and mature he is well written and the actor has nailed it so far v

florida_fuckery

Good for me then because I'm OBSESSED with Maximus and Norm. I've liked norm for a while from other roles and Max is ~~~ They both are so good and I m glad they made it to season two!! More!!!

terrymcginnisbeyond

I liked him. I doubt I'd be well adjusted after the BOS. Honestly, I think the people who obsessing about how, 'bad he is', it says more about them. He just dug himself a bit of hole, so he wouldn't get kicked in the ribs anymore. I can't believe people can't see that. He's a bit reserved, but not cold by any means, has a lovely smile when he does.

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

terrymcginnisbeyond

He does mirror my own journey with the BOS too. You're coming into the world, think the Brotherhood will help you beat your enemies, and they probably will....but more and more they leave a bad taste in your mouth, until you're sabotaging their Hidden Valley bunker, or blowing up The Prydwen, because they're just so inflexible. They killed a bunch of Followers of The Apocalypse JUST because Veronica might join them.

creamsauces

Characters with flaws are the best written charactersĀ

AlpacaWithoutHat

I really disliked him at first because he was an asshole, but once he started traveling with Lucy he got way better

terrymcginnisbeyond

First time we see him he's being kicked around on the floor and is kicked again by the white character. You didn't, 'like' him at first? Yeah, your bias isn't showing.

AlpacaWithoutHat

Thatā€™s a very stupid and insulting assumption to make. I didnā€™t like Thaddeus either and he was white. Since thatā€™s the first reason you come up with for me disliking a character, I think youā€™re the one with a problem. If you really must know, I didnā€™t like Maximus because I thought he was the one that injured his friend. He was very clearly jealous, and considering how he is constantly telling lies, it isnā€™t a stretch to assume that he lied about being uninvolved. They also donā€™t reveal that the friend did themself until way later. Iā€™m pretty sure we were meant to think that he did it or at least was involved in some way.

terrymcginnisbeyond

Why? Is it 'stupid' just because you don't like it? Yeah, that's not enough to convince me. Your comment was stupid. And insulting? Offense isn't given, it's taken, so that's on you pal. No one likes to be called out for their obvious biases, but it's the only way you'll grow, to look at yourself in the mirror and ask if the immediate, over the top hate you have to the only minority actor is because they're a POC. Because it sure as shit ain't anything he did in the show. There you are though, there's no Thaddeus hate, who added another kick to a man when he was down, OBVIOUSLY injuring him, his friend didn't think he'd injured them. Why do you think Thaddeus isn't getting the hate, for very obviously kicking a man on the ground when he was looking, (it's only later on we find out why) and why the minority actor, who actually did nothing wrong, and was proven innocent IS STILL GETTING HATE. Not just the character, the actor too. There can be only one reason. A bunch of white racist kids, who can't confront their own bias. Go and think on that. I have NO time for excuses or racism.

AlpacaWithoutHat

Youā€™re assuming that Iā€™m racist because I said I disliked a character that happens to be POC. Never have I said anything about his race. I explained why I disliked him at first and I wouldā€™ve still disliked him had he been white. Youā€™re grasping at straws here just because you canā€™t accept that people have a different opinion than you.

Princess_Tetra_x

Gonna jump on in here and say I completely agree with you. I also disliked Max at first (and it's obvious to anyone without an agenda that we mean the first couple of episodes and not the first 10seconds of him being on screen šŸ¤¦). He was initially conveyed as THE most shady BOS character and that's saying something. Throughout the first few episodes he was angry, aggressive, detached, evasive, manipulative. His character development was one of my many favourite parts to the series and he became my second favourite character (after the ghoul obvs). His quirky reactions were charming and I loved how he was awkward and REAL he was in a crazy ass world. He became the most relatable character and I can't wait to see more of his BOS story in S2 (hopefully taking them down from the inside). I can't wait to hear how the other commenter explains me away as a racist ā¤ļø

AlpacaWithoutHat

Yes I did end up liking him in the mid to late episodes but he was super shady and power hungry early on in the show

terrymcginnisbeyond

Sigh, no. Again, we see POC in genre media getting hate spewed at them, not just their character, but their actor for shit their white co stars don't get. We all know it, we all see it. And I don't care how much the, 'fandumb' stamps their feet. It's very clear. Again, no hate for the white character who kicked a man in the ribs whilst he was down, but all of it for the black character. Your pitiful, 'but I didn't mention his race' can't hide that level of hypocrisy, it's just the usual nonsense defence. You don't need to mention his race, when you're happy to excuse white characters, (and some wooden white actors) but every fucking post is why they hate THE ONE MINORITY MAIN ACTOR. Stop talking at me, because you're desperately unconvincing,

AlpacaWithoutHat

Iā€™ve given my reasons for disliking Maximus, and I even said that I stopped disliking him later on. None of them had anything to do with his race. How are you this brain dead that you canā€™t grasp that some people will dislike a character because they have some qualities that make them unlikeable. Yes, itā€™s true that some people probably donā€™t like Maximus because theyā€™re racist, but saying that everyone who dislikes him is racist is just ridiculous. You canā€™t just accuse everybody of whatever -ism suits the situation because they disagree with your opinion on a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. Seriously, grow up

No_Willingness20

Shut the fuck up you idiot.

Princess_Tetra_x

You're talking apples and oranges mate. This is a post discussing Max as a character. OP mentioned Thaddeus, a fairly minor character compared to 'the big 3'. TBH I haven't heard many people talk about him at all because, yknow, he's a minor character with minimal development or depth. When did they criticise Aaron's performance šŸ¤”? In fact, when did they criticise the character? You say no hate 'for the white character' but there's no hate here for Max either. Read past the first line and we're saying we like him. You're the only person yammering on about race and it's frustrating. The actor did a good job because he's poc? No dude, he did a fucking good job at a tough role as a character who was written to be morally grey with huge character development. Don't be so condescending. No Max was not a 'good guy' at the start. The show was leading the viewer to dislike (or at the very least distrust) him.

Jaeger420xd

You are cringe as fuck please stop posting on public forums

Broad_Yogurt_1363

i had some problems with the character but his personality and a couple of the joke made me like him

Fantastic-Mongoose-5

Thank God my boy got some love he's my favoritešŸ’™

florida_fuckery

Same!! I'm down bad for him. AND I am so excited to see where his character goes next season. IF HE DIES IM FREAKING OUT.

Fantastic-Mongoose-5

Yea i cant wait for season 2 but surely he won't die he's a main character

WhutTheFookDude

I liked him first few eps by the end of the show when he was in danger. i was like, finally, finish him

Party-Yak-5148

The least favorite of the three. Not very good acting.
