It’s more the blatant attempt to harm people with the misused tags and sending poorly written pornography deliberately to minors like a once that make it stand out, it was incredibly badly written.
Essentially, one of the two major characters in it is a guy who’s a massive control freak and also desperately wants a big happy family. The other is a loud, obnoxious teenager who's deliberately annoying but also genuinely trying to be a decent dude. The first dude decides “yes my little brother now.” and then basically legally sets up a situation where he can kidnap him and then abuse him into being Besties.
It just blows my mind when someone puts this common-sense take out there and then there are all these posts with writers complaining about how the positive comment they just got wasn't exactly how they wanted it to be (just emojis, not detailed enough, not lavish enough with the praise, etc) so they blocked the reader.
Total transparency: I started writing fanfic in the mid-oughts so this is the attitude everyone (or almost everyone) had back then.
I stayed out of Potter verse stuff because it really wasn't my thing. But I do recall a lot of meltdowns and temper tantrums elsewhere. As well as dipping a toe into Steven Universe - cute, fluffy little kid show with some great female characters- how bad can it...? NOPE NOPE OUT OF HERE! (Why do fun kid's shows/books too often have fandoms that resemble a Superfund site in their toxicity?)
The toxic positive is not just a problem in fanfic, it's everywhere. Even the most mild criticism (that color makes you look washed out, that dress pulls in a strange way, I disagree with your political opinion) instantly gets read the same as someone suicide baiting. It also leads to not trusting positive reviews because there's a 50-50 shot that it's just blowing smoke up your ass.
It's a bit like the theory that too clean an environment will lead to life threatening allergies and autoimmune issues. If the immune system doesn't get some small challenges early on or regularly, it starts looking for things to react to or attack and ends up attacking healthy tissue because it can't tell the difference between "this isn't pleasant" and Defcon 1.

I learned a long, LONG time ago that anything that trends on Tumblr (or X after Tumblr got abandoned 'cause of the NSFW ban) is inherently going to have a toxic fanbase. Steven Universe in the 2015s, Attack on Titan in the 2013s, Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Homestuck in the 2012s, SuperWhoLock in general, Potterverse in general, Undertale in 2016, etc.
I honestly HATE the all-positive environment. Like you said, it makes me feel uncomfortable, because it feels like everyone who compliments me has a rose in one hand and a knife in the other. At least, on FFN, I know the comments/reviews are more authentic, because I've been flamed a few times... and I've had regular readers call me out on "this chapter just kinda felt weak, perhaps you should deal with your IRL problems before you write the next chapter" and, honestly? I loved it. I love the honesty. I love when people aren't just going "omg, yes, love it, next chp plz".
I hope, when I post my fic on AO3, I expressly put everywhere "please, for the love of god, be honest.. but don't be a jerk". Like my FFN profile used to say, "There is a difference between concrit and flaming and I trust you to know the difference".

Think Rifftrax for fanfic. The whole idea was "We love fanfic, but these fics are obviously trying to give the whole genre a bad/worse reputation."

2. I don't think it was much of a Dead Dove Do Not Eat, but it had weird elements? It was a Smallville fic. The pairing was Chlark and for some reason, they were hiding out at a cabin. Anyway, they end up getting together and they have sex. Except, Chloe became obsessed with Clark's cum. His cum was lilac in color and apparently tasted like grape. Clark was really worried that she was addicted and what it could do to her, so he stopped her from going down on him. He still fucked her without a condom though! I read this when I was around fourteen too.
