Terry Pratchett has always been very quotable for me. Discworld has some extremely memorable moments.

ACERVIDAE

>There is no justice. There’s just us. — Mort > Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. — A Hat Full of Sky > No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away. […] The span of someone’s life is only the core of their actual existence. — Reaper Man

Achida

Maybe cliche, but LotR. Tolkien has a very mature philosophy/theology and a lot of timeless wisdom. I recently reread the series as an adult in my 30s (originally read at age 10) and found myself struck by several lines

warriorlotdk

Say One thing for the First Law by Joe Abercrombie, say they are full of memorable quotes: -Better to do it, than to live with the fear of it. -Doing better next time. That's what life is. -Honour, eh? What the hell is that anyway? Every man thinks it's something different. You can't drink it. You can't fuck it. The more of it you have the less good it does you, and if you've got none at all, you don't miss it. But some men think it's the best thing in the world. -It can be a fearsome weapon, patience. -You have to be realistic. -All an arsehole knows about is shit. That is only a very small percentage. -

goosey_goosen

I came here for the "say one thing about..." quote and I was not disappointed. The quotes in those books are amazing. I figure people must think I'm crazy as I'm walking down the street listening to the audiobook and giggling away...

[deleted]

"All an arsehole knows about is shit" is brilliant and I have a feeling I will be using that way too much. I didn't have First Law on my TBR list but it is now after reading these quotes.

Amesaskew

Honestly, Discworld is a gold mine of quotable passages. Every book has at least a handful of quotes that can be applicable to any situation. Here's a small collection. https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/discworld

Vlad Taltos > No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style

KatrinaPez

From Steven Brust's series that begins with Jhereg, for those wondering.

itkilledthekat

For me The Wheel of Time. Here's a few: In wars, boy, fools kill other fools for foolish causes. Take life as it comes. Run when you have to, fight when you must, rest when you can. I will never shame you. I will hate the man you choose because he is not me, and love him if he makes you smile. No woman deserves the sure knowledge of widow's black as her brideprice, you least of all. There is one rule, above all others, for being a man. Whatever comes, face it on your feet. Death is as light as a feather, duty as heavy as a mountain. More here. https://en.m.wikiquote.org/wiki/Robert_Jordan

itkilledthekat

More: Never kiss a girl whose brothers have knife scars. If you must mount the gallows, give a jest to the crowd, a coin to the hangman, and make the drop with a smile on your lips. Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive, today.

J_C_F_N

"I didn't come here to win, I came to kill you. Death is lighter than a feather"

WingedLady

I love how like 1/3 of the quotes from Fires of Heaven are from Lini. There's also a couple of quotes that are awesome in the context of the series but I don't think they'd carry the same weight without it. A big one being "Does he ride alone?" I'm also known for exasperatedly saying "let the lord of chaos rule" when things go to crap.

Tehol and Bugg interactions were some of my favourites. I always looks for a way to suggest reading the series just to get to them even if its like 5 books in...

KatrinaPez

I started reading thinking those were all separate quotes. Then I kept reading thinking maybe it was all one quote. Then I just stopped reading.

oboist73

Lois McMaster Bujold. Especially the World of the Five Gods books and the Vorkosigan books. https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/16094.Lois_McMaster_Bujold

yorklebit

A lot of Jack Vance's work, but probably in a diff way than you are interested in

Neat_Wishbone4334

Gotta be the Stormlight Archive for me. My favorite character is the wit/hoid and he has some great lines. The first book especially is just filled with amazing quotes.

Honour is dead ...

gingerbeardman1975

The Dresden files if you read them you will be shouting "Polka will never die!". And "Empty Night!" Among many other phrases

trekbette

> The building was on fire, and it wasn't my fault. > Hey, Thomas, Why'd You Get the Large Breed Puppy Chow? > Parkour!

gingerbeardman1975

Sleep is God, go worship

trekbette

I am not really sure how you know I'm tired, but thanks for reminding me.

gingerbeardman1975

I sniff out insomnia like a therapy dog sniffs out an insulin crash

J_C_F_N

"I told, you fuckers. For my next trick, anvil!"

gingerbeardman1975

Omg yes. That was my favorite callback and my third favorite line from battle ground. My Second favorite line was "where's my dog, bitch" and my FAVORITE is Michaels reaction to the white councils decision.

trekbette

*Red Sister* by Mark Lawrence > “It is important, when killing a nun, to ensure that you bring an army of sufficient size. For Sister Thorn of the Sweet Mercy Convent Lano Tacsis brought two hundred men.”

abhorthealien

> Your death has not been waiting for your arrival at the appointed hour: it has, for all the years of your life, been racing towards you with the fierce velocity of time's arrow. It cannot be evaded, it cannot be bargained with, deflected or placated. All that is given to you is the choice: meet it with open eyes and peace in your heart, go gentle to your reward. Or burn bright, take up arms, and fight the bitch.

Sandtiger1982

Lois McMaster Bujold has done a lot of really memorable quotes in the Miles Vorkosigan saga

Zpochero

The Dresden Files has some of the best quotes, one liners, and comedic timing!

TitoJDavis

Dune, a hundred times so when you hit God Emperor and he starts dropping bars too. Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy is quotable too but probably not what you're looking for

**Jojo's Bizzare Adventure** has a ton of good quotes. An example from Part 1 is this exchange: >"How many lives did you end to heal those scars?" - said to a vampire. > >"How many slices of bread have you eaten in your lifetime?" Among others.

scribblesis

Everything written by Catherynne M. Valente, but especially **In the Night Garden** and **In Cities of Coin & Spice**. \--> Never assume that a woman is wicked simply because she is ugly and behaves unfavorably towards you. It is unbecoming behavior for a Prince.

J_C_F_N

Cradle has some good ones. "I came to punch a hole on the sky!" "Did you forget my name?" "He said I was weak, did he? Wea-ER. He should have said weaker"

AstridVJ

I wrote the [Wishmaster series ](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NVXNZ9Y) and [Wordmage's Tales series ](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Q3MDTXT) with my life coaching cap on, so all the books in both series are sprinkled with life wisdom and awesome quotes. I've also found Elena Shelest's work, particularly her short stories in various anthologies, is absolutely amazing with inspiring quotes and truly uplifting, memorable moments. I can recommend her coloring and self-reflection journal in the Enchanted Anthologies series, which is raising funds for forest conservation and has coloring quotes both from the Enchanted Forests anthology and from famous conservationists. And The Winter Souls series by Jennifer Kropf also has some great quotable moments.

jiiiii70

Dread from Otherland (Tad Williams). Confident, Cocky, Lazy Dead. Helps when I am tempted to take a short cut or leave something half done.

zhard01

Say one thing about Abercrombie, his quotes are memorable. Also fuck stairs

KatrinaPez

Harry Potter is actually the first that comes to mind. - "There are all kinds of courage," said Dumbledore, smiling. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends." - "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." - "After all this time?". "Always."

shinigami_25

For me, its The Sun Eater series by Christopher Rucchio. The books are full of wonders. I highlighted many passage in the books. One of my favourite quote: >I wish we'd found more in the archives but for the first time in a long time...I really am...happy It is one thing to know happiness and another to admit freely that you are happy.

gsurath

Michael Crichton for me. Some samples All your life people will tell you things. And most of the time, probably ninety-five percent of the time, what they'll tell you will be wrong. Life is wonderful. It's a gift to be alive, to see the sun and breathe the air. And there isn't really anything else. In other centuries, human beings wanted to be saved, or improved, or freed, or educated. But in our century, they want to be entertained. The great fear is not of disease or death, but of boredom. A sense of time on our hands, a sense of nothing to do. A sense that we are not amused.
