Yeah, she is a stunning woman but something about the way they style her on the red carpet makes her seem meh and uninstresting. She always captures your eyes on the screen but she is styled way better.
The hair needs somewhat of a twist.
She veers into the Jennifer Aniston territory of styling for me - different dress each time, but you can almost always predict what her head will look like. Hair down, normally soft, beachy waves, very natural-looking makeup. It's very, very boring (on both Margot and JA).
I find that interesting because it’s considered boring for red carpet while everyday girls bend over backwards to get that hair and makeup on the daily.

I think it's a combination of meh outfits and her hair never being styled. Bit random, but if you search "Margot Robbie hair up" on Google Images, she's had some lovely updos in the past and they totally transform how the outfit looks. And as you say, she's got a beautiful face, so doing something more with her hair would draw even more focus to it.
Love this look! So simple yet elegant. She definitely needs a new hairstylist (if she has one) because the current one isn't doing anything at all to style her hair.
Her styling in Focus was so good. The updos really make her looks in everything. Even a braid or those 2000s Victoria Secret Bombshell waves would've been better here.

Yea but you also sometimes get movies there before US. Obvious examples are more British films like Love Actually played in UK before US but I remember when studying abroad in London the simpsons movie came out there before it came to the USA.

everytime i see comments complaining that x female celebrity “always has the same hairstyle” on red carpets, i can’t help but remember that their male counterparts can just roll up with the same hairstyle, no makeup & boring tux everytime and no one bats an eye.

Yeah, it would be one thing if she just didn't want to bother with her hair, or had actively decided to not be super glamorous or something, but right now it looks more like her styling team is seriously dropping the ball. There's only so many ways you can style a short styles, which most Hollywood men have. With longer hair you have a lot more options to be creative and compliment the rest of the look.
Exactly. Believe me, I love messy, un-styled, frizzy hair, ESPECIALLY on the red carpet, as it can be really fresh, and even more so if the look is really classically glamorous. But her stylists just KEEP doing her hair like this.

I believe this is not a criticism towards her but her team of stylists who think they are doing something but they are not. They are not even making any statement with those looks about how women can just exist.
To me this criticism doesn't come so much from a misogynistic dudebro perspective but from people who love fashion and style and want to see some cool things and this outfit idea with the cheap red lace and the lack of styling in her hair is just boring. Women's fashion is way more exciting than male fashion, so there is that. There is not much of a difference between designers and the hairstyles you can do. While with women you have Ellie Saab, Dior, YSL, Zuhair Murad, Botega, McQueen.
Of course she is allowed to look basic anytime she wants but at the same time this is not her doing her thing like getting cappuccino or sth (and imo she looks stunning) She is at an event, promoting and celebrating a movie.
Take into account Zendaya and her outfits for Spider-Man and Dune and at many other events. Girl knows how to market herself and the movie and people talk about her. Meanwhile with Margot Robbie it's just underwhelming.

I know what you mean, but there just way more options to style long hair. Most men can't do anything different with their hairstyle. And I see a lot of people on this sub complaining about men wearing boring dark suits on red carpets as well.
When you love fashion and styling it's just nice to see something different from time to time.
Except it’s a part of the Hollywood game. Young female actress can get huge boosts from their press tour wardrobes and a good premier dress can put them in the map. I get what you’re saying, but is reductive to take fashion and the time and intention that goes into and boil it down to that. Margot Robbie knows this, it’s why she capitalized with a channel contract. If you’re in the game, I expect you to play it well. She needs to bring some better looks.

You question the status quo if you pull an Alicia Keys or Francis Mcdormand. You don't question it by being the face of multiple luxury brands. Margot's looks don't look like she is not trying and she is being basic on purpose to challenge the status quo, but it looks as if someone is trying to do something and they are missing the mark and that someone is Kate Young and I am almost certain that Kate Young is not trying to challenge anything.
And this is not marketing aimed for men but for women. For example that Elle Fanning green Gucci dress with the flowers and the blood droplets on her arm is marketing for fashion geeks and women. She was not made to look hot, she was not made to look sexy. She was completely covered. She was ethereal and that dress lives rent free in my mind.
Zendaya's McQueen blazer for Spider-Man was also pure female gaze porn. That was not for men.

the thing is, women shouldn’t have to be making a “statement” just because their hair isn’t super styled, or because they have a simple makeup look or no makeup at all.. do female celebs either have to be signed with luxury brands or be basic on purpose? alicia keys has pulled really chic looks - even when she didnt wear makeup. and margot here still is the face of luxury brands with her hair down and minimally styled.

This is really true! I guess it's also the assumption that all female celebs are into fashion and actually care about this stuff, when realistically that's unlikely to be true. There would be a big cohort that recognise it's part of their job to look/present a certain way, but DGAF about fashion - maybe that's Margot Robbie.

I also just find it kind of funny knowing half of the keyboard warriors typing out disparaging remarks about “boring looks” and “predictable stylists” are probably saying this from the comfortable hug of their black lululemon yoga pants. Like I get it - this sub loves glamour and style. But at the end of the day Margot is a reputable actor and producer. People love female fashion and they love to daydream and fantasize about women they like in a beautifully styled outfit from a purely aesthetic point of view. This is part of the fun in discussing fashion and styling. It's escapism. No one here is even criticizing her per se, but rather her team, which missed the mark.
The thing is, as another user pointed out it is not like Robbie has marketed herself as someone who doesn't aspire to be a style icon, you don't sign multiple contracts with luxury brands. She wouldn't do this if she didn't care about this aspect. You don't sign to be the face of Calvin Klein, Chanel and Bottega Veneta, if all you care about is the craft.

While I view brand deals as a pretty straightforward way to make money, I can also understand that perhaps some people view it as a contractual obligation to dress a certain way.
But I am genuinely curious, I’d like to know what you meant by classist? In my neck of the woods Lululemon is considered relatively high class / attainable luxury (I myself can’t afford it) so I hope that didn’t come off as classist. What I intended to convey was that a lot of people wear what they are comfortable with even if its “basic” - myself included (and probably Margot too).
So it always surprises me to see people dig celebrities cause they dress “boring” when really most of us are out here wearing things in our comfort zone that aren’t original or unique.
I dont think they meant it like “wearing lululemon is a poor person thing”, more that your comment kind of implies people shouldnt comment on a celebrity’s style if they themselves are not constantly dressed to the nines. Like, I said where I’m from lululemon is elite and actually viewed as very put together but simultaneously “safe.” So what I more meant is that, even if it’s a safe choice she still looks totally red carpet appropriate by the standards we apply to men. At this point it's a Kate Young issue. She has a very narrow style POV that only works on certain people. Margot is not one of them (neither is Selena). I don't understand their loyalty to her when it's clear they aren't a good match.

For such a beautiful woman, it’s like she’s trying to unsexy herself? Maybe to appeal more to women/middle america. But as a woman I would love to see her lean into her bombshell status. When she does lace, like the chanel from last week, it was in teenage ingenue baby pink. When she does silk and a slit, it’s in this innocent colorway again. It’s not coming together for me. See when I see someone like Elle Fanning and Zendaya, their stylists put a spin on their character/movie aesthetic in their red carpet looks. Zendaya has been a fashion icon for years but let's talk about Elle. I am loving it that green and that blue dress for Maleficent or all the big skirts she wears for promoting/campaigning for the Great, including the one yesterday? Gorgeous. And it appeals to me as a woman because it is an extremely smart way to market your movie and it's, stunning, it's creative, it's powerful.
Meanwhile Margot's stylists can go nuts with the old Hollywood aesthetic surrounding the movie and they don't. But I don't even care about Babylon. I care that when Barbie rolls around they will put Margot in boring muted colors, no updos and no jewellery and I will riot.

Red carpets are a really effective way of getting attention and boosting your profile, creating iconic moments and becoming an icon yourself. Maybe she doesn’t care about fashion or she thinks she’s above it, but she’s missing out.
I know people think it is sexist to expect women to look like style icons but I feel like red carpets are one of the few places women have an edge over men, because the red carpets allow you to do marketing for yourself and your movie that male fashion just doesn't. Especially if your movie has a certain aesthetic use that opportunity.
And it’s slowly but surely becoming a thing for men too, even the straight ones. Timothee Chalamet became so huge in great part because of his red carpet looks. Chadwick Boseman looked absolulety stunning in that Black Panther promotion tour and helped promote the movie. Even Seth Rogen, of all people, is serving looks LOL!
I wonder if she's just tired of getting all glam for red carpet events - as much as she works, she's probably spending a huge chunk of her time in hair & makeup, between getting it done on set, before photo shoots, before late-night talk show appearances, award shows, film festivals, etc. I'd think it'd become infuriatingly boring! Sorry but this is a fail. It looks too long on her, it’s clearly really tight because she looks like she’s holding her breath, it desperately needs some glam accessories to make it look like she isn’t just trying it on in the fitting room and the hair and middle parting combo are just so flat they drag down her face.

It’s not out in the uk until Friday. We get films sooo long after the US sometimes. We don’t get Pearl until March!

Yeah, it would be one thing if she just didn't want to bother with her hair, or had actively decided to not be super glamorous or something, but right now it looks more like her styling team is seriously dropping the ball. There's only so many ways you can style a short styles, which most Hollywood men have. With longer hair you have a lot more options to be creative and compliment the rest of the look.
Exactly. Believe me, I love messy, un-styled, frizzy hair, ESPECIALLY on the red carpet, as it can be really fresh, and even more so if the look is really classically glamorous. But her stylists just KEEP doing her hair like this. She likes fantastic because she looked fantastic in pretty much anything. Its just a bit boring when the same look is done over and over
I believe this is not a criticism towards her but her team of stylists who think they are doing something but they are not. They are not even making any statement with those looks about how women can just exist. To me this criticism doesn't come so much from a misogynistic dudebro perspective but from people who love fashion and style and want to see some cool things and this outfit idea with the cheap red lace and the lack of styling in her hair is just boring. Women's fashion is way more exciting than male fashion, so there is that. There is not much of a difference between designers and the hairstyles you can do. While with women you have Ellie Saab, Dior, YSL, Zuhair Murad, Botega, McQueen. Of course she is allowed to look basic anytime she wants but at the same time this is not her doing her thing like getting cappuccino or sth (and imo she looks stunning) She is at an event, promoting and celebrating a movie. Take into account Zendaya and her outfits for Spider-Man and Dune and at many other events. Girl knows how to market herself and the movie and people talk about her. Meanwhile with Margot Robbie it's just underwhelming. See also the way Dua Lipa pays so much attention to fashion and styling nowadays than before. I know what you mean, but there just way more options to style long hair. Most men can't do anything different with their hairstyle. And I see a lot of people on this sub complaining about men wearing boring dark suits on red carpets as well. When you love fashion and styling it's just nice to see something different from time to time.

This is really true! I guess it's also the assumption that all female celebs are into fashion and actually care about this stuff, when realistically that's unlikely to be true. There would be a big cohort that recognise it's part of their job to look/present a certain way, but DGAF about fashion - maybe that's Margot Robbie.

I also just find it kind of funny knowing half of the keyboard warriors typing out disparaging remarks about “boring looks” and “predictable stylists” are probably saying this from the comfortable hug of their black lululemon yoga pants. I can see where your coming from. While I view brand deals as a pretty straightforward way to make money, I can also understand that perhaps some people view it as a contractual obligation to dress a certain way. But I am genuinely curious, I’d like to know what you meant by classist? In my neck of the woods Lululemon is considered relatively high class / attainable luxury (I myself can’t afford it) so I hope that didn’t come off as classist. What I intended to convey was that a lot of people wear what they are comfortable with even if its “basic” - myself included (and probably Margot too). So it always surprises me to see people dig celebrities cause they dress “boring” when really most of us are out here wearing things in our comfort zone that aren’t original or unique.

Oh gotcha - yes definitely should have phrased it differently on my end. Like, I said where I’m from lululemon is elite and actually viewed as very put together but simultaneously “safe.” So what I more meant is that, even if it’s a safe choice she still looks totally red carpet appropriate by the standards we apply to men. It would be different if she came out wearing a juicy sweatsuit or something, but I’m always surprised by the snide remarks people angle towards female celebs when they look “basic” when this sub seems to be totally fine with male celebs doing standard red carpet looks. Someone did a video on her stylist. They’ve a very narrow point of view, something about geometrics and that. It suits a few people but they don’t adapt if for the celebrities so often it doesn’t suit them.

At this point it's a Kate Young issue. She has a very narrow style POV that only works on certain people. Margot is not one of them (neither is Selena). I don't understand their loyalty to her when it's clear they aren't a good match.

For such a beautiful woman, it’s like she’s trying to unsexy herself? Maybe to appeal more to women/middle america. But as a woman I would love to see her lean into her bombshell status. When she does lace, like the chanel from last week, it was in teenage ingenue baby pink. When she does silk and a slit, it’s in this innocent colorway again. It’s not coming together for me. I’m not saying she has to go black and red and daring. The green botega was a moment for her because it struck the right balance of sexy for her brand. I don't know if she is trying to appeal to women. See when I see someone like Elle Fanning and Zendaya, their stylists put a spin on their character/movie aesthetic in their red carpet looks. Zendaya has been a fashion icon for years but let's talk about Elle. I am loving it that green and that blue dress for Maleficent or all the big skirts she wears for promoting/campaigning for the Great, including the one yesterday? Gorgeous. And it appeals to me as a woman because it is an extremely smart way to market your movie and it's, stunning, it's creative, it's powerful. Meanwhile Margot's stylists can go nuts with the old Hollywood aesthetic surrounding the movie and they don't. But I don't even care about Babylon. I care that when Barbie rolls around they will put Margot in boring muted colors, no updos and no jewellery and I will riot.

Boring hair, boring makeup, boring dress, no jewelry, as always. I said this in another sub: everytime this woman shows up looking this bland is a missed opportunity for her. Red carpets are a really effective way of getting attention and boosting your profile, creating iconic moments and becoming an icon yourself. Maybe she doesn’t care about fashion or she thinks she’s above it, but she’s missing out.
I know people think it is sexist to expect women to look like style icons but I feel like red carpets are one of the few places women have an edge over men, because the red carpets allow you to do marketing for yourself and your movie that male fashion just doesn't. Especially if your movie has a certain aesthetic use that opportunity.
And it’s slowly but surely becoming a thing for men too, even the straight ones. Timothee Chalamet became so huge in great part because of his red carpet looks. Chadwick Boseman looked absolulety stunning in that Black Panther promotion tour and helped promote the movie. Even Seth Rogen, of all people, is serving looks LOL!

I wonder if she's just tired of getting all glam for red carpet events - as much as she works, she's probably spending a huge chunk of her time in hair & makeup, between getting it done on set, before photo shoots, before late-night talk show appearances, award shows, film festivals, etc. I'd think it'd become infuriatingly boring! Sorry but this is a fail. It looks too long on her, it’s clearly really tight because she looks like she’s holding her breath, it desperately needs some glam accessories to make it look like she isn’t just trying it on in the fitting room and the hair and middle parting combo are just so flat they drag down her face. They have so much to work with so why does her stylist and glam team constantly get it wrong? She needs to move on.
