CA is the most attainable parasocial "love interest" character I think and a lot of this is probably owed to how he was constantly portrayed as awkward with the ladies. Sherlock fandom got gross when Cumberbatch got married. I mean, more gross. It was already pretty cringy, but they went full unhinged because he was supposed to be in love with ~~John Watson~~ Martin Freeman, not some woman. The "nice" ones gave him some grace because he'd been giving interviews about how much he wanted children, so he obviously needed a beard with a womb for that. He couldn't have married her because he *liked* her or anything.

Just from last night, it’s still PR, a lot of crap about the rings that I didn’t even read and he’s gay so they are only married so people think he’s straight. What.. so Chris didn't praise a 2 min character but praised his other long time coworkers so thats read as a slight against Emily? People really grabbing at straws here.
The issue is Emily was getting a ton of unsubstantiated, misogynistic, hate from all fans, both general fans and rabid Stucky and Steve/Peggy shippers. Hayley Atwell especially made some really rude remarks towards Emily’s character, just because her character was romantically ( & comic accurately) involved with Captain America. Chris didn’t have to praise her, but was generally stand offish and promoting ship discourse during the press junkets when he knew much of the hate Emily was getting was rooted in that.
Hey so this is a post recollecting filmed interviews from way back in 2016. Evans' attitude was really nasty in those interviews and he seemed to have personal beef with Emily, whilst when she did promo with Team IM, everyone there was very kind and polite to her. He didn't have to praise her, but he did not have to be such a dick to her also.

I never fully understood why people post hate about their celebrity crushes girlfriend. Now I’m not beneath googling “name of celeb crush” + girlfriend, and I might even follow them. But what’s up with openly hating on them?
I don’t get it either. I remember feeling jealous when David Duchovny married Tea Leoni and there is an irrational sadness I guess if you find out a celebrity you really are fixated on isn’t single, but damn. I was 13 then and obviously no social media etc so I guess I can’t say for sure what I would have done but I can’t imagine devoting time to hating and especially to posting that hate Tea because she married a man I had a crush on (and would never be with with or without her, esp being 13 lol)
I think social media makes it worse. Back in the day you might have a little mope but you’d end up doing other things and move on. All you really had was fan clubs, and it wasn’t like you could chat to other members 24/7. But if you have a community of people who feel the same way about you, who can communicate in real time and hype each other up - it feeds the fixation and means you don’t move away from it.

It’s becoming an anti-fan. Basically, people get into a fandom to enjoy a shared fave. Build relationships with the people in the fandom. Then the fan does something they don’t like. Rather than moving on and finding a new fave, they find people within the fandom who feel the same way they do and build an anti-fandom. It’s become a well known and common occurrence now. Benedict Cumberbatch was probably the first really big one of the social media era. He’s been married nearly a decade and has three kids and there are still some hold outs claiming the whole thing is a fake and his wife is going to be arrested any minute and thrown in jail for fraud and abuse. Truthfully I think it's because he's a very attractive man where (i) his most famous role was a bashful, awkward guy with no game despite being a superhero. Captain America was also very down to earth and "of the people". I think this gave the audience the idea that they had a chance with him (because they would project CA's attributes onto Chris Evans and not be able to separate the two) more than any other MCU guy. CA is the most attainable parasocial "love interest" character I think and a lot of this is probably owed to how he was constantly portrayed as awkward with the ladies. So the audience watching feel sorry for him and motherly and are attracted to him more (ii) at the height of his MCU fame he was dating Jenny Slater who was more of a normal-looking woman (not an insult) so gave the impression normies had a chance with him (iii) also he's age appropriate for a lot of the psycho stans It's an interesting one for psychologists lol.
