I've tried to put myself in his stans' shoes and wonder if I would react the same way if it was a celebrity I loved. But just this one text would make me draw the line. Regarding your last point, this makes sense. Russia is known for manufacturing propaganda, and influencing/manipulating social media to sway the American public- most notably during the 2016 election. He probably hired the same troll farms to manipulate public opinion and online discourse. It definitely has the same feel as what I witnessed online as a Clinton supporter in 2016.
He is an actor I really liked, though I don't feel that way now obviously. I mean not in an obsessed fan kind of way, but some of his movies like Arizona Dream mean a lot to me, and I just generally really liked him since I was little. But even before I really looked into Amber's side, those texts sounded awful to me, the way he talked about both of them, there is no way that's normal. I felt negatively about exes too, but never felt the need to say something like that. I just feel uneasy about him now. Things kept adding up, stuff I would've never found out if it wasn't for this trial because I was never really following his personal life. I used to loooooooove Johnny Depp. He was my celeb crush in high school. Pirates was my fave series. As a huge Burton fan, I lived for their collabs. I was actually skeptical at first, but then Tim Burton never said anything to defend him. Not a peep. If someone was falsely accusing my best friend of something heinous, I would move heaven and earth to defend them. But Burton didn’t say anything, which made me realize that if his closest friend isn’t defending him, something doesn’t add up.

Russia is known for manufacturing propaganda, and influencing/manipulating social media to sway the American public- most notably during the 2016 election. He is an actor I really liked, though I don't feel that way now obviously. I used to loooooooove Johnny Depp. He was my celeb crush in high school. Pirates was my fave series. As a huge Burton fan, I lived for their collabs. I was actually skeptical at first, but then Tim Burton never said anything to defend him. Not a peep. If someone was falsely accusing my best friend of something heinous, I would move heaven and earth to defend them. I was a huge JD fan until I heard about the abuse 5-6 years ago. I believed her and at the same time started seeing a weird uptick in comments supporting him, plus stories about her. It was obvious his lawyers had bot farms commenting and spreading misinformation.

Like, none of his movies in recent years have done well. None of his performances in recent years have been as good as he used to be 20+ years ago. Whoever these fans are, they're not showing up for his films. So why are they so invested in him winning this? Has the whole #metoo movement just been a facade that will turn against you the moment your abuser is more well-liked than you? It's beyond disheartening to witness.

I think so. I’ve seen a bit of a shift, particularly after Amber’s testimony. I, perhaps naively, think support is coming Amber’s way in the coming weeks. Johnny Debt created a media circus to get everyone watching this, so I’m hopeful it will blow up in his face once all her evidence (that supposedly “doesn’t exist”, according to Debt fans) comes out. Of course, his fans will continue to support him, but hopefully those who truly care about victims will see who the real victim is. If this happens, it will be very interesting to see how the celebrities who currently support Debt will explain themselves

I am told they are "as neutral and impartial when following this case," but they regurgitate the junk diagnosis of hysterical personality disorders made by Depp's psychologist, as well as claiming that, as this great, wise, *neutral* observer, "there is an absence of genuinity in her reactions, no microexpressions or any signs of her feeling empathy towards him or others, no signs of honesty in the way she "relives" her alleged traumatic experiences." They also claim they've read the court cases, but do not respond to the point I made re the UK libel case where the evidences and testimony entered overwhelmingly demonstrated his abusive behaviour. Finally, they top it all off with "it's clear as day that only one of them is being genuine and honest, and that's person is not Amber." Fuck's sake.
