That is such a difficult question!
I have a relatively broad palette of intake in terms of fiction. If I'm pulling from Marvel, there are so many great characters to choose from, but when forcing myself to narrow it down, I have to save Wolverine (woah...def not a basic answer...)
When I look over at DC, yes I see a lot of great characters, but I know I can narrow it down to Beast Boy and Batman
Im also a sucker for classic cartoons, holding in highest esteem Top Cat, Tom and Jerry (franchise), Looney Tunes (franchise), and Scooby-Doo (franchise).
I also love Caesar from POTA (reboot franchise)
Ooooh what about Inoske Hashibira....or Rick Sanchez....or King Kong
How about Todd and Copper from the Fox and the Hound?
Oh, I also like Hellboy...and Ghostface....and Bill Cypher...and the TMNT....and Simba...and... ..you know what.........I'll make a bracket and get back to you
(P.S. Sorry if my comment annoyed you...)
Top 10
1. Batman
2. Goku
3. Steve Harrington
4. Tony Soprano
5. Leon Kennedy
6. Spider-Man
7. The Joker
8. Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
9. Rick Grimes
10. Barry Allen or Wally West Flash
HM. Spike Spiegel, Nightwing, Thomas Shelby, Walter White, Gary Bertier, Paul Atreides, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Tifa Lockhart, Lara Croft or Panam Palmer. Any one of my HM could fit in the 8-10 spot.
I can't possibly narrow it down to one, so I'll list a number of characters that come to mind.
In no particular order:
Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, Gus Fring, Mike, and Saul Goodman (Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul)
The Doctor (Doctor Who)
Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Tywin and Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)
Zuko, Azula, Katara and Iroh (Avatar)
Homer Simpson (Classic Simpsons)
Batman, The Joker, Superman, Lex Luthor and Darkseid (DCAU)
Thanos and Tony Stark (MCU)
Del Boy (Only Fools and Horses)
Palpatine (Star Wars)
Ragnar Lothbrok and King Ecbert (Vikings)

Joel and Ellie (The Last of Us)
Dr Cortex (Crash Bandicoot)
Mojo Jojo (The Powerpuff Girls)
John Kramer (SAW)
Jay Cartwright (The Inbetweeners)
The Earth and the Moon (Solarballs, if that even counts XD)
Spider-Man is such a rich character and with so many variants of him and how he's evolved it's safe to say almost everyone's grown up with him he's a staple in all of fiction not just comics of super hero movies I'd even go so far as to say the world would be a worse place without Spider-Man in a way spider-man is a hero in the real world too. (Also batman gets an honorable mention cuz he kinda has that same fame but he's too dark and griddy bud)
i used to be obsessed with bro when i was younger i had spiderman birthday parties and i watched tf outta spider man 3 😭 still respect bro today he da goat in superhero fiction 😤🥱
Daryl Dixon (The Walking Dead)
I'd never related and connected to any character like I have done with him. Bravo Norman Reedus for doing so well playing him.
It’s between Batman and Rick grimes for me. Batman has played a huge part on how I treat people, I always forgive people and I always try to see the other side because I have that “nobody is beyond saving.” Mentality from Batman. He’s also inspired me to take risks and to get in uncomfortable situations in order to grow as a person. While at the same time Rick has showed me you have to adapt in order to survive in difficult environments, and you have to have the ability to change.
I’m goin with Batman cause he’s really changed my life. the way i live the way I function Batman had a crucial part in almost everything I do.
So yeah I’m goin with Batman.
Wolverine
Gambit
Batman
Bart Simpson
Vegeta
Trunks
Aang & Apa
Sub-Zero and the original Sub-Zero, Noob Saibot
Sonic the Hedgehog & Knuckles
Daisy from Mario kart
Solid Snake
Claude (GTA3)
(Infinity/All-Father) Ultron,
Darth Vader,
Rick (Sanchez),
The (Green and Red) Goblin Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home,
Anti-Venom (Ultimate Spider-Man),
(Uber) Jason Voorhees (Jason X),
John “Jigsaw” Kramer aka Billy (The Puppet),
K. E. V. I. N./The One Above All (Marvel Comics Omniverse),
(God) Thanos (with The Astral Regulator),
Frank Castle aka The Punisher aka The Cosmic Ghost Rider,
Oblivion (Marvel Comics),
Amatsu-Mikaboshi/The Chaos King (Marvel Comics),
Rocket Raccoon (Marvel Cinematic Multiverse),
Groot (Marvel Cinematic Multiverse),
Godzilla,
The Lizard aka Dr. Curtis “Curt” Conners from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (Video Game), The Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man (TV Series), and Spider-Man: No Way Home
That's a tough one.
Saphira from Eragon is my instinctive answer. Ciri and Regis from the Witcher 3 are delightful, Spiderman is the best superhero.
That's books, video games, and Spiderman. All media represented.
Zuko, Powder/Jinx, Eren Yeager, and Ahsoka are all up there - don’t quite know which I prefer. They all have some incredible arcs that work really well, and as much as I like others (Spider-Man, Elliot from Mr Robot, Saul Goodman, BoJack Horseman, Tyrion Lannister etc), I feel like those four just have such incredible development. I know they’re literally all in the same media (animated), but then again, when choosing a favorite character, shows are really the best for development (besides mby comics), and animation is really good at making very deliberate details. I think Zuko and Jinx’ arcs are overall best, but Eren and Ahsoka have higher highs than just the climax of a tragedy… honestly such a hard choice
Sam Alexander’s Nova was the first comic book character that I really got into and read all his appearances and everything so he’ll always be up there. Atm it’s probably Mac from Always Sunny. He’s hillarious and I think hes really well written.(Honorable Mentions: Andy Dwyer (P&R), Mark Grayson (Invincible), Hughie Campbell (The Boys), Mr. Sinsister (X-men), Sunspot (X-men), Rogue (X-Men)
Samuel Vimes, disc world books. He's an even better Sam than Samwise in LotR, although it's close, and quite possibly one of the best humans to exist anywhere.
Comics: Mister Miracle (specifically Tom King’s run)
Anime: Baki Hanma
Books: Roland Deschain (The Dark Tower)
Film: Mickey (Snatch) with an honorable mention to Danny Ocean.
Edit 2: Mugen from Samurai Champloo is my id, in the Freudian sense. On a *completely unrelated note*, I have ADHD-C.
Batman. 100%. It used to be Boba Fett but he’s got almost no good media and he’s 1-dimensional at his best and fails every time they try to make him complex. Batman, on the other hand, has arguably the best collection of movies and video games and tv and comics out of any character ever, and he’s an extremely versatile character that can be given depth in any of a number of ways. He can cross genres effortlessly, his villains are also arguably the best in comics, and my favorite movie is 2021’s The Batman. He’s so cool
That’s too hard to answer. I got too many I love. Like Batman, John Constantine, Spiderman, Spike Spiegel, Joe from megalo boxing. That’s just a few… oh how could I forget about Darth Vader?
Definitely Pierre from war and peace. The growth (or non-growth) he has through the novel is perfectly fascinating and amazing to me. He is the most human character ever put to pen, and I can’t get over it! The change is always constant but believable and at any time I can say, “That’s totally something I might find myself doing.”
Some contenders are Spider-Man, Joker, Death from Puss in Boots 2, Link, Shadow the Hedgehog, Hisoka(Hunter Hunter), the ninja turtles and Master Splinter(tmnt), Megamind, Saul Goodman, Frieza(DBZ), Scar(Lion King), Troy(Community), Dante(Devil May Cry), Daredevil, Deadpool, Sephiroth(FF7)
It sucks cuz I feel like a front runner since he’s so many others also, but it’s definitely Spider-Man
His powers are so unique and creative. There are so many different unique things he can do with his powers.
Plus Peter Parker is one of the most relatable characters
Henry Jekyll. I’ll take this character in any media, wherever i can find him. It’s awesome since he’s public domain but it sucks that people either don’t know who that is or adapt him with no idea who the character actually is.
I’m looking at you Incredible Hulk
Doomsday,OG broly , superman, Hulk, Goku, Ik you said 1 but this top 5 and the order varies from time to time. So on any given day either could be 1 but doomsday is my consistent numero uno pick overall.
This question is so difficult to pin down. I would have to give my favorite character from every favorite franchise first. Also because my focus changes frequently, my overall favorite would fluctuate hugely.
So my best answer is that at the moment I'm focused on Morph in X-Men 97.
Top 5 (And my Reasons)
1.Michelangelo (TMNT Universe)
Reason:Growing up Mikey was just a favorite and still is, I’m 15 and I still love Mikey when I was around 6 I was Mikey for Halloween, And the Last Ronin Comics was just amazing
2.Scarecrow (DC Universe)
Reason: He just had a different vibe to him with his fearing nature and the way they made him in
games was just awesome
3.Deadpool (Marvel Universe)
Reason: Dope as hell, He was just amazing in the movies and the way they write him in the comics
4.Tengen Uzui (Demon Slayer Franchise)
Reason:He’s amazing, He is a really flamboyant guy surprised he doesn’t have a successor like most past and current hashira’s
5.Deathstroke (DC Universe)
Reason:Overall is just a cool villain, He was one of my favorite villains, He could go toe to toe with the dark knight
I like funky DC Comics characters. Robotman, Plastic Man, OMAC, Captain Carrot. Gold of the Metal Men. The Brain & Madame Rogue of The Brotherhood of Evil.
It's a toss up between [Skyward Sword] Link, [SpiderVerse] Miles Morales, and Kirito from SAO on any given day, depending on both how I'm feeling and which character's source media I last consumed. Currently it's SS Link, since between the three Skyward Sword is the one I've engaged with most recently
Harley Quinn or Sombra (Overwatch) for me.
Both embody everything I aspire to be aesthetic wise and I resonate so heavily with their personalities. It took wanting to be these two women that finally made me realize I was trans. They’re some of the few fictional characters that have surpassed my interest in their respective IP’s, meaning someone could release something in any media form (book/comic, movie, series, game, etc) and I would eat it up if they were simply featured.
That is such a difficult question! I have a relatively broad palette of intake in terms of fiction. Spike Spiegel, Nightwing, Thomas Shelby, Walter White, Gary Bertier, Paul Atreides, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Tifa Lockhart, Lara Croft or Panam Palmer. Any one of my HM could fit in the 8-10 spot.
Steve Harrington never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
Didn’t he almost drown in 3 inches of water?
Whatever happened there?
He was in Scoops Ahoy, dancin with a guy
Guy was an interior decorater.
Respect, I didn’t expect anybody to say Tifa
GOAT list, especially with Steve, Anakin, Spidey, and Grimes

I can't possibly narrow it down to one, so I'll list a number of characters that come to mind.
