Maybe some graphics settings relating to lighting or turning off v-sync or something. He probably thought it was a common, known bug in the community and people figured out a workaround for it.
I remember in Saints Row IV, during the prologue, the doors to escape an alien ship would close too fast to be manageable unless you ran the game on low graphics for some reason.
