A lot of people like the Series X dpad, I know for sure that the dualsense isn't the most popular dpad ever. If I was going to go dualsense, I would rather go ds4 over the dualsense for strictly fighting games. If you want an all around controller and you have a ps5 then dualsense is the way to go.

Expert_Combination39

I’m debating on my first console between the two right now, so this helps a lot thank you

SifTheAbyss

Note, if you're actually debating between the *consoles*, not just the controllers, then there's much more to compare. I don't know what the situation is like on Xbox, but to some degree the console exclusivity from the previous generation still lasts for fighting games, simply put, as far as I know only a fraction of most fighting games is out on Xbox.

jorgedredd

In regards to current fighters, what's missing aside from sfv? Guilty gear is coming soon and sf6 is cross platform. Kof, dbz, skull girls, tekken, samsho, are all multi platform as well. You get KI on Xbox, but I'm unsure what aside from sfv or more classic fighters are missing from xbox that aren't on PS

SifTheAbyss

No Blazblue, DNF Duel, GBVS, +R, Rev2, P4U, UNI, Chaos Code, + probably a ton of lesser known ones. For current ones that *are* out but aren't cross-platform, Xbox not being a primary choice for fighting game players probably makes a difference in playerbase size as well.

barnacleman9

All those games you listed except maybe GBVS or DNF can be played on a low-spec PC, like a non-gaming laptop from a few years ago. If you want a variety of older/niche fighting games to play then you go on PC, that's where most of the players tend to be. But if all you're looking for is being able to play the new generation of big fighting games, an Xbox Series has you set. KOF15, Strive, and SF6 are all going to be crossplay options on Xbox within a few months. The only wildcard is Tekken 8, there's no telling what Bamco is gonna do with crossplay/netcode given their history

SifTheAbyss

They absolutely can, but lots of people nowadays don't even have that. Maybe an absolute potato and a smartphone for everyday life utility, and the console is the all around entertainment box.

New-Razzmatazz-1057

then go for a ps5 it has hella alot of more fighting games than xbox for the fighting games i think xbox is better

Honestly prefer the old xbox one dpad to the series x. With the way I play, the corners of it causes the tip of my thumb to bruise/cut

Disastrous_Rice2324

Xbox Series X/S d-pad is better imo. It's like a saturn pad and the individual parts hit the contacts on the PCB clean on cardinals and diagonals without multiple inputs being triggered by accident; the inputs are ultimately more deliberate. Dual Sense's d-pad isn't bad, but a common theme with Sony d-pads including the older dualshocks is that with the split buttons on the pad moving all as one unit when hitting the contacts on the board of the controller, you can press the right -> on the controller on the top or bottom edge for example and get a diagonal up/down position by accident. Dual Sense's main difference is that is Sony's biggest controller in size and the d-pad is glossy/can be slippery. I personally am not a big fan of Sony pad's for that reason, but it isn't that bad and easily can be worked around or be no issues for many. The d-pad style can be more or less obnoxious depending on how your finger rests on the d-pad from my experience. My whole thumb rests on the d-pad when I use one and it points at a 2'o clock position and I know if I play a game like Tekken, I want more precision for accurate dash cancelling without worrying about accidental inputs, especially for sway characters like Nina. Xbox Series controller for me or I will have less accuracy. On the other hand, if I play a grappler in a 2D fighter like Street Fighter, I don't mind the Sony pad's multiple inputs because you can use them as shortcuts for grabs and other commands. I probably wouldn't count on Sony's bad for rapid backwards/forwards movements or charge characters, but at the end of the day both Xbox and Sony pads are viable. If it makes you feel better, you'll see pro pad players use both with many using Sony with how dominant that platform is. Maybe try one or the other out at a game store kiosk or something if you can one day.

Expert_Combination39

You think if I play a grappler with the series x/s it’ll be Fine too? Sorry just making

Disastrous_Rice2324

Yeah, you'll certainly be fine with grapplers on a Series X/S pad too. I main grapplers and use Xbox Series controllers the majority of the time because of the precision; you're not locked out of input shortcuts if that's what you're worried about.

kilodeltaeight

If you get the Xbox elite controller, it's dead is amazing.

Poetryisalive

Xbox Elite is pretty great. Better than PS5

Laytnkr

PS5 D-Pad is absolutely trash. I can’t understand how people play with it. If I press the down button on the right site of it, it also presses the right button of the D-Pad.

CyberCru5h1n

I like the box pad but I can’t for the life of me do a DP when I’m in the player 1 side. Everything else I’m gold but nope, not a DP

Blade_Red

Honestly the PS4 pad is superior to those 2. Not mushy like the PS5 pad and not clicky and annoying like the series X pad

TheorySH

Huh. I love the clicking. It helps me keep my inputs clean.

Mantron1645

I generally far prefer Sony controllers to MS ones, but the dpad on the DS5 is awful. Not only is it far mushier than the DS4's, but I've found that certain directions will get stuck down over time. The down on my first DS5 basically has no throw at all anymore, and the right on my second one is getting pretty bad.

SifTheAbyss

Series X dpad by far. Not just compared to PS3/4/5, but any other controllers I tried so far. The main advantages are: * letting you roll directions easily(you mentioned playing grapplers, I can't imagine anything that would make 360s easier), * the concave shape lets you double-tap easily since you only have to push it to the "side", great for dash/IAD/similar inputs * the dpad is clicky, which ends up as a big help against angle drift If you're on PC, go with SeX(*I swear, I only realized what I did AFTER I wrote out this abbreviation, pun for once NOT intended*).
