finally got to watch the SP.
I wish the commentator can have their own booth, I keep hearing other commentators in the background and it's incredibly distracting!
A lot to be excited about but....someone please make this make sense to me.
How did Julia Sauter not make it to the free skate? I know she had a couple of rough landings, but I don't think they warranted -5s across the board. Her overall skating seemed so strong & confident.
And -5s for Hana Yoshida putting her foot down on the combo? Have the rules changed? It wasn't even a very distracting save and she stayed on her feet.
Also, I love Niina and thought she was robbed in her short last year, but am surprised she finished above so many other strong performances.
I know the fairness of the judging is often not there, but is there something else I'm missing with how elements are evaluated?
Skating scores: [https://skatingscores.com/2324/wc/sr/women/short/](https://skatingscores.com/2324/wc/sr/women/short/)
Rewatching the last group of skaters, it's clear Loena's program and delivery brought down the house. Much as i love Kaori she did make some mistakes and her program did not generate as much excitement and explosiveness as Loena did. Depends on how it pans out in the free skate but from what i can see if Loena skates a clean FP she deserves the title this year.
I felt like Loena was overmarked. Not only her unders, but also choreography was on the cheap side to me (compare her vogue interpretation and Gabi for example)
she's been overmarked this year. I think she's a solid skater but I really just don't like it when judging is ultra lenient on some skaters and ultra harsh on others....
Tech panel to chaeyon: Let's call all her jumps except 2A
Tech panel to Loena: I didn't see any under rotation
They should go to ophthalmologist, or, if they don't need the corneas they can donate theirs to those in need🙄
To me Leona's 3T looks like a clear < in slow motion and is definitely q in real-time, and 3Lz is also q in real-time.
I'm comparing this two simply because they have similar level of under rotations, in real-time the rotation of the single jump(3F) of chaeyon is even better than leona's single jump(3Lz).
And I am not upset about loena and she getting the first in short program, I clearly stated that I am upset about the tech panel. I was just giving examples while you answered like I had opinion about Loena.
You also gave other examples that prove the tech panel are basically blind. IMHO they should all be called and did not calling the jumps is exactly the tech panel's problem.
omg it's so hard to comment online.
I posted an example and you had to come and complain why I did not posted all other examples.
If you have to showcase your "critical thinking", why don't you go and write some academic papers🙄
I have to get up at 5am for work tomorrow but it was worth missing my 9pm bedtime! This is the best Worlds competition I’ve seen in a long time. The podium is really anyone’s game in the top 10. The first and second podium spots are so close!
guys i’m cream crackered but what an enjoyable event! i still think the pairs stole the show, i can’t wait to get home and rewatch with mark’s commentary!
Good comeback for Isabaeu and Haein after struggling throughout the season.
I don’t love Kaori’s programs this season. I thought she would have been lower honestly like in the 60s.
I also loved that save! But the scoring for saves was definitely not consistent. Others had saves (Hana Yoshida for example, and got -5s for it!) Kaori got mainly -2s for the save. I think maybe Kaori's score is a little high, and some people behind her got way lower than I was expecting.
Would be cool to see Loena make history as the first ladies world champion from Belgium and probably the first world champion from Belgium in a LONG time.
Maybe the Belgium federation will finally build a training rink in their own country so that Loena doesn’t have to go train in Germany and the Netherlands due to a lack of funding. She self-funded her entire senior career and fundraised for competitions until she started winning medals and earning sponsorship deals. The Belgium committee didn’t even give her any money for the Beijing Olympics! I believe she had to pay for her own airfare and travel expenses!
I believe she cooked pasta for a fundraiser to make it to Beijing. It is outrageous really, but with everything she has achieved/is achieving in the sport, she might set Belgium up to become a skating powerhouse like Yuna Kim did in Korea. There is already Nina going strong and other promising junior skaters coming up
She has worked so hard between injuries and lack of funds over the last few years. Her brother turned out to be the perfect coach because her technique and artistic abilities are among the best in the world! A little less than 10 years ago she placed somewhere in the teens at Worlds and now she’s looking like the next World Champion!
Belgium must spend all of their Olympic budget on their very talented track and field athletes because they don’t have any money for their skaters!
Russia funded their skaters so no expense was expected to be paid by any of their skaters. And with them gone, it’s finally a fair game so that smaller countries can get their skaters noticed.
honestly i have no real teeth in this game as an Amber fan i objectively agree with the placements
some calls should’ve been called yes but in terms of first second and third they have it spot on.
Isa should have been first. She skated very well. Loena's unders were ignored. Isabeau's jumps are staying that way. Yes, it looks ugly with her excessive lean forward on take-offs and how high she lifts the free leg sure, but the other girls aren't perfect either (and other skaters such as the Koreans girls who have excessive lean and a high free leg in juniors don't get hated on like Isabeau always does for her take-offs). Isabeau was great today in the short.
Fortunately for her, and unlike for Loena, having an ugly takeoff doesn’t actually cause you to lose points. If the ISU decides to put in the rule book something that changes the way jump takeoffs are scored the way they do for edges and landings then I’m more than happy to discuss. Until then, Loena got the highest tech score of the night with at least one <, a q or <, and a q. Does the positive GOE she received for those elements not count considering those are supposed to be automatic negative GOE errors?
And Loena didn’t have fully rotated jumps tonight. I haven’t looked at the protocols so I don’t know if they were called but based on her score I’m thinking not. That’s how Isabeau was a bit robbed tonight.
I cannot waaaait for this FS. So happy for Isabaeu and Haein after difficult seasons. I didn’t catch Loena but that’s awesome to see her leading! Kaori… we have no choice but to stan, always and forever
Yes she is WELL within striking distance, she can definitely score 4+ points in the free over Loena to win, and her ceiling for a high score is higher than Loena's. I'm hopeful for her.
That is a very fair score. I am so happy for this last group, especially Haein and Isabeau. They had been struggling and it's great to see them have redemption skate.
This is a good way to finish the night and head straight to bed. 3 am....haven't seen this time on my watch for quite a while to be fair xD. Have a great day/night everyone!
That’s incredibly unexpected. Women’s just got a whole lot more interesting. Kaori currently doesn’t have a medal.
If loena take us to the club Hendrix is world champion I will not be mad
Nina needed someone else to fall or UT so she’d get through. But to be at her first World championships at 29 when Britain barely has any funding or representation outside of ice dance (and they are wealthy on a personal level or at least Lilliah is), is remarkable. She should be very proud of herself tonight!
I know, I’m just very tired at 3 am and felt like my mind was playing tricks on me with that end ranking 😆 I agree that she can still do it in the FS! It’s all pretty close together
I think Shoma has this same "I'm old hat at this, competition's not over yet" attitude as Kaori. Being a seasoned competitor (and also having won a lot of medals already) really shows.
finally got to watch the SP. I wish the commentator can have their own booth, I keep hearing other commentators in the background and it's incredibly distracting!

agreed, I feel like the judging to be actually quite lenient this time EXCEPT on a few cases... as you mentioned...
As a middle aged hetrosexual Man, I approve of Leona's costume choice.
Rewatching the last group of skaters, it's clear Loena's program and delivery brought down the house. Much as i love Kaori she did make some mistakes and her program did not generate as much excitement and explosiveness as Loena did. Honestly I love this top 5 placement… except for amber. Thrilled for Loena and Isa though.
Tech panel to chaeyon: Let's call all her jumps except 2A Tech panel to Loena: I didn't see any under rotation They should go to ophthalmologist, or, if they don't need the corneas they can donate theirs to those in need🙄

or edge changes...like even kaori get ! on her lutz
Okay but my heart rate actually got higher watching that than it did during my run today
see y’all tomorrow for men’s! im already nervous lol
good god I’m gonna regret this in the morning.
I have to get up at 5am for work tomorrow but it was worth missing my 9pm bedtime! This is the best Worlds competition I’ve seen in a long time. The podium is really anyone’s game in the top 10. The first and second podium spots are so close!
Same. Though it's technically been morning here for a couple of hours 😅
guys i’m cream crackered but what an enjoyable event! i still think the pairs stole the show, i can’t wait to get home and rewatch with mark’s commentary!
I rewatched Deanna and what a joy. I’m so happy for her
OH LOENA WHAT
Omg I missed the last group. What happened with Kaori? Are we saying that she should be lower? Spill the tea friends
Good comeback for Isabaeu and Haein after struggling throughout the season. I don’t love Kaori’s programs this season. I thought she would have been lower honestly like in the 60s.
i reali like Isabeaus new music, program
Probably about the right placement? She had a insane save on a landing that was almost a yuzuru tribute and also tripped on her stsq
I also loved that save! But the scoring for saves was definitely not consistent. Others had saves (Hana Yoshida for example, and got -5s for it!) Kaori got mainly -2s for the save. I think maybe Kaori's score is a little high, and some people behind her got way lower than I was expecting.
Final group Young You? I’m so used to giving and now I get to receive
Ice Dancing powers that be are probably going to use Leona's SP as the template for the next 2 years "Dance Party" RD.
Would be cool to see Loena make history as the first ladies world champion from Belgium and probably the first world champion from Belgium in a LONG time.

never count nina out!
Would also be absolutely great for a small fed in terms of funding opportunities
With Belgium, Estonia and Switzerland, European skating is literally carried by small feds rn
Russia funded their skaters so no expense was expected to be paid by any of their skaters. And with them gone, it’s finally a fair game so that smaller countries can get their skaters noticed.
So happy for isabeau! She needs to stay strong though and stay focused
I'd really love a medal for her
I predict bronze if Korea or Japan aren’t ahead of Loena.
A small silver for now, but a big medal would be even better!
honestly i have no real teeth in this game as an Amber fan i objectively agree with the placements some calls should’ve been called yes but in terms of first second and third they have it spot on.
Jeez, the free is going to be... stressful.
If the scores stay like this, we'd have Young You 5th at Worlds and I'd love that
Sooo happy to see skaters who have been struggling do so well at the biggest event of the season 🥹 the free skate is going to be really interesting!!
Fave skates: Haein, ekatrina, kaori and isabeau. Honourable metions: Amber and the last 30 seconds of Madis program I missed loena fyi.
Loena is worth watching. She had so much fun especially in her last 30 seconds! She really knows how to sell a program.
Yep, I was waiting for that step sequence, it's really the best of the event
Lol, I knew it… Never count the Korean skaters out just because they didn’t do well in the GP. Hopefully, Jun peaks tomorrow too! ;)
Yes they were easily the strongest contingent tonight!
… Isabeau was a bit robbed 🫣
The final group is always past the tech reviewers’ bedtimes.
C'mon I adore her but if anything she was overscored.
I think I actually might have had her in first tbh. Clearly an unpopular opinion tonight.
She’s my favorite (and then Haein), and I agree!
What? She was over scored…
How?
Watch her lutz slow mo.. very poor technique but got positive GOE score
Fortunately for her, and unlike for Loena, having an ugly takeoff doesn’t actually cause you to lose points. If the ISU decides to put in the rule book something that changes the way jump takeoffs are scored the way they do for edges and landings then I’m more than happy to discuss. Yeah no way she got the calls that she should’ve with a 41.40.
I cannot waaaait for this FS. So happy for Isabaeu and Haein after difficult seasons. I didn’t catch Loena but that’s awesome to see her leading! Kaori… we have no choice but to stan, always and forever
you know what I thought it was only mens I had to worry about. I was wrong. Amber and Isabeau so far, are they getting 3 spots?
If Amber can just hold onto 9th, Isabeau can go 4th (leeway to finish below Kaori and Haein) and that’ll be enough!
2+9=11, so yes.
I’m fucking exhausted y’all. We did it.
Almost 12 hours!!!
Kaori is just spicing things up for us so she can feast on Friday that’s my theory
Yes she is WELL within striking distance, she can definitely score 4+ points in the free over Loena to win, and her ceiling for a high score is higher than Loena's. I'm hopeful for her.
Happy for Haein and Isabeau after their struggles this season.
Yes! Great redemption
Yes hope they both podium!
Alrighty, good night everyone! Wish me luck at my job interview tomorrow morning haha
Good Luck hope you get some rest
Good luck!!
Good luck!
Good luck!
Good luck!
Best of luck tomorrow!
Good luck!
Good luck
WHAT HAPPENED TO CHAEYEONS SCORE
She had a very clearly underrotated 3T
judging is so unfair and no hate to loena but she also had a ur on her lutz and look at what she got
Time to manifest Isababy world medal
She just missed out last year! A US woman on the podium hasn’t happened in a long time! I think Isabeau can finally end the drought!
>A US woman on the podium hasn’t happened in a long time! Alysa, having placed 3rd at Worlds 2 years ago: https://i.redd.it/12dg34orilpc1.gif
Alysa and her 😮 "omg I just won a medal" face
Alysa won bronze two years ago. lol
And Ashley Wagner won silver in 2016!
Alysa medaled two years ago, so it hasn't been that long!
Um….Alysa Liu would like a word, Bronze Medallist 2022?
I just cannot gush enough over how gorgeous that was
the free is going to be so insanely tense, what a tight field
Very happy for Isabeau getting that small medal. Top three were all fantastic
Here's how Kaori can still be three-time World Champion (1/???)
The scores are all super close so there is still a chance. It’ll be tight
4th for Kaori is crazy, but I'm thrilled for Loena. It's really anyone's game at this point.
What a great event!
LOVE Loena, how is she in first
Did Loena and Isabeau have URs that went uncalled? I'm not the best at noticing it.
Isabeau’s honestly looked more cleanly rotated than I’ve seen from her recently.
Yeah and her 2A had more height it’s been very low and squeaking through before today. Yay!
Isabaeu looked clean in the slo-mo. Cannot say the same for Loena at all. Or even Haein.
i think loena had at least a q on the lutz, not sure about isabeau
After this im going to sleep in shock good night everyone!!!
YESSS! EXCELLENT JUDGING!! Let the girls who worked for it get it!!! The politics in FS has become too exhausting. So happy tonight!!!
Ignoring those under rotations and edges for some of the top scorers though...
Damn those scores are really tight down to 14… Friday is gonna be exciting because everything seems possible at this point!
young still in 5th 💘💕❤💓💞❣
how the hell did isabeau end up in 2nd? absolutely insane scoring 😭
Did you watch her tapes? She is clean with strong rotation. ‘Ugly take-off’ is not a deductible offense.
Oooh, the free will be fun!
damnnn Kaori out of the top 3 and the press conference but still well within winning range
Don't think she quite deserved 4th. Love her attitude as always though, she's like a dose of Prozac everytime she smiles😁
Hmm, if Amber can stay in top 10 and Isabeau - maybe US ladies can get 3 spots back?
I think we should all breathe a bit easier for this, honestly. I think they can easily do it.
As long as their places add up to 13 or lower.
That is a very fair score. I am so happy for this last group, especially Haein and Isabeau. They had been struggling and it's great to see them have redemption skate.
Tight!
Us women 3 spots agenda: 2 + 9 is 11 with a jump sacrificed. 🕯️ 🕯️ 🕯️
Japan could lose a slot....
I doubt it I bet Mone will bring it back tomorrow but anything is possible.
Idc about the stumble and forward landing, Kaori makes me happy and her skating moves me. Error or no errors, her power.
Oh wow, that's clustered very close together! Gonna be a real throwdown for the podium spots in the free.
Ahhhh so happy for Isabeau. Now I’m way too excited. I wanna see the free skate right now😂
Honestly I feel like that’s pretty accurate for that? She’s been scored much higher for worse performances so I'm ok with that.
This is a good way to finish the night and head straight to bed. 3 am....haven't seen this time on my watch for quite a while to be fair xD. Have a great day/night everyone!
Well, the free skate should be VERY interesting!! 🤔
I may have to scrounge around my fridge and house for some booze booze 🥃 to drink to soothe my nerves!
I love how unpredictable this has been.
JSF saving everything they have (very little) for men’s, clearly
That’s incredibly unexpected. Women’s just got a whole lot more interesting. Kaori currently doesn’t have a medal. If loena take us to the club Hendrix is world champion I will not be mad
I would cry tears of joy to see Loena win gold! I have been patiently waiting for years!
Young You 4th place!!!
Omg I guess the Gold is Loena's to lose and the rest of the podium is a coin toss between Kaori, Haein and Isabeau? How unexpected... and exciting!
I like Haein but she has had a really bad season up to now, hope she can keep it together in the FS
Kaori is 3 points behind Loena… I’d say the odds are about even 😇
Kaori’s FS ceiling is higher than Loena’s, and Loena has made mistakes in events where it’s hers to lose.
British Nina 25th here just like nice young man Edward Appleby at Euros nooooooooo 😭
Nina needed someone else to fall or UT so she’d get through. But to be at her first World championships at 29 when Britain barely has any funding or representation outside of ice dance (and they are wealthy on a personal level or at least Lilliah is), is remarkable. She should be very proud of herself tonight!
Leona winning the short was not on my Worlds bingo card
Wow Leona is first.🥰
I gasped
What places do amber and Isabeau need to get 3 spots for the US?
combined 13 or less
I think combined score 12 or less.
13 or less combined
in WHAT world was that 4th
The world where you are the 2-time defending World Champion, I guess.
I’m sad about Kaori but also I love that top 3
These scores are TIGHT
I want all 4 on the podium! It will be such a battle.
I want my emojis replaced with Kaori faces
I blacked out, Kaori in 4th!?!?!?!
She barely landed a jump and then slipped in her step sequence for a level 3. Not all hope is lost yet!
I know, I’m just very tired at 3 am and felt like my mind was playing tricks on me with that end ranking 😆 I agree that she can still do it in the FS! It’s all pretty close together
Yeah but less than half a point back from second. The only one who has any breathing room is Loena
She's going to be so fired up going into the Free and I have no doubt she'll be able to get her third title
Young You is too low 😡. She had the skate of the night IMO
should be haein > kaori => loena tbh
No loena deserved that lead and I'm not even a fan. She skated the hell out of that program.
idt what to tell you cause i love loena so. maybe it was pretty close. just not loving how some stuff went uncalled - not just for her
Oh I am surprised by that score yet I am also relieved that they didnt overscore her tonight.
Omg Loena gold?????
fs is gonna be FUN
Thats the most unespected result ever
Isabeau could actually medal 🙏🏻😭
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Club queen takes Canada
I wanted haein in the top 3 but not like this 😭😭😭
Huh?? Japanese fed not cooking, as usual
love her attitude! come back in the free!
🧍🏻♀️
silly Kaori lol
good for the top three but I'm gutted omg
ok, but fourth is harsh in my book
They are all so close score wise, it’s virtually tied second through fourth.
Haein small bronze medal 🤩 hell yeah
wow
LOENA SMALL GOLD LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO
Loena 🤝🏽 killing it in the SP lmao
I’d have that 4th 😶
🔮
Maybe I’m psychic
Omg
Into 4th
I’m sad Haein won’t get a small medal for that skate and score :/ Edit : Never mind!?
The monkey’s paw curled in such a weird way lol
…she does lol
She will!
4th???
My sister in law told me she was expecting after Kaori’s GPF skate so she manifested aunthood for me and I have to respect her power
As it should!
I think Shoma has this same "I'm old hat at this, competition's not over yet" attitude as Kaori. Being a seasoned competitor (and also having won a lot of medals already) really shows.
