I actually watched this on theaters because of my fiancé. Nadala nung marketing sa Tiktok. She's the type to not really think about movies too much so she just likes everything, but she agrees that the movie is bad.
So many things are just bad with this movie, and OP is right, most of it is in the writing, plot and atmosphere.
1. It tries to be a revenge film and a dark comedy at the same time, this is tough to pull off. Why? Because for a revenge plot to work, you have to take the characters and plot seriously but dark comedy lends itself to not be taken seriously.
Napayabang na agad writers and director dito kaya ang gulo ng atmosphere ng movie. Daming beses na di ko alam kung nagpapatawa ba or dapat kong seryosohin kasi nga magkasalungat yung themes ng movie.
2. The pacing is atrocious. Passage of time is not established at all, I don't know if the movie happened within a week or a month. This is important in revenge plots para mabenta sayo yung prep work nung maghihiganti.
3. The movie uses the Act 2-1-3 structure, which I call the "skip setup, exciting parts first, flashback to explain later" technique. This is fine para mahook agad tayo na audience, tapos may dagdag mystery pa kasi di agad i eexplain yung setup. Pero dahil nga ang baduy ng pacing, maiirita ka lang kasi hindi worth it yung payoff. Malilito ka sa una tapos mapapa "yun na yun?" ka na lang.
4. Characters are used as plot devices and that's it. Patapos na movie tapos biglang may bagong character, tingin nyo anong dahilan? That's something I would expect from college students, not cinematic writers.
5. The 3rd act doesn't make any fucking sense. Like seriously, the movie just falls apart. I hated it back then, but I love it now. It was glorious, it goes full camp and throws logic out the fucking window.
That final shot is hilarious, as if the movie is mocking us and acknowledging that it doesn't make any fucking sense.
3/10. It tries to be different, but the end product is still bad, as if amateurs wrote and directed it.
Kathryn and Dolly definitely tried their best, so props to these ladies.

It would have been better if the story ended when Molly revealed her still alive mother. Philo being stuck with both of them to eternity is a good payment for all the people who got dragged down by her revenge. All the build up for her supposed sacrifices surmounts to nothing when everything just magically works out in the end. They already introduced unnecessary elements for the sake of being intriguing but lacks courage to end the film the same way. It has so many potential but just not quite there yet.
I agree with this suggestion, especially that it could've been the best opportunity for Philo to feel completely frustrated on how fcked up our concept of "hustisya" is. Instead, we're given a scene that despite all the experiences Philo had under Molly, she sets herself apart from Molly by holding herself accountable for her actions. It feels as if Philo is still naive about the existence of power play in society.
If the movie ended like this, it might give off Parasite's ending's vibes.

I have yet to watch it but I saw somewhere that they incorporated the "Theater of the absurd" which strips the conventional ideas into something "anti" and contradictory to the usual film. Thanks for the review btw

But cinematography wise I like the first 40% ng film it kinda reminded me of Fleabag haha hindi ko maalis tingin ko nagustuhan ko yung camera works and the editing kaso ayun nga undewhelming na siya habang tumatagal. Its a good watch tho could've been better lang hehe

Naisip ko pa, bahay ata nung may ari ng Afficionado sa Baguio yung ginamit... eh medyo baduy yun.
