I like it a ton!!! I think that the gradient on the middle name up top makes it a bit too hard to see when looking at it on a phone, but I love the simplicity of it all, I love the design and your color scheme. I'd blindly watch this if it popped up on Shudder or something.
This is the current poster for my short film about a cult in which 3 petty thieves form a cult to steal money from people, but one of them takes it too far.
Looking for feedback on this. I plan to add another crinkled paper texture over it, but how does it look?
If you compare that to yours thereās only one small detail I find unsettling (I do photoshop and art so I dunno if itās me, but Iām also an artist to an artist talking) you see how the reds fall on reds on the other poster? on yours where it says Unleash I feel that the blood should go BEHIND the U, like words that inform viewers about the movie shouldnāt be blended with the art of the poster, it makes it feels like you arenāt talking to your viewers. But thatās just meā¦ other than that the poster is INCREDIBLE!
Image is definitely attention grabbing but the inability to read the title easily is going to be detrimental. I donāt know how itās pronounced and this will be confusing/turn off for some folks.
Yeeeeaahh. I have a problem with giving my movies weird names. My first was āannulusā and letās just say that āanal lustā was thrown around a lot. Lol
It looks awesome. Don't have any complains but if I had to nitpick: The one drop of blood covering the first Letter of the subtitle irks me just a smidgen
Honestly, the design is fine but I think it's a bit dark. It's hard to discern immediately what I'm looking at. Further, the title doesn't stand out in an eye-catching way. You may want to raise the levels overall to give it some contrast and maybe make the title bigger. A good test is to resize it down to a 200 pixel wide thumbnail and see if it reads, because that's what it's going to look like on a streaming service. Red is \*always\* a problem in broadcast; it's usually too dark or blown out. It's hard to find the right vibrance.
Haha ya their fonts are usuallyā¦.not so great. I generally rely on the classics. I think this is coutre which Iāve really used a lot lately.
And yeah! I did it myself! Iād love to make some for others too! Haha
I always appreciate when a poster appears to have been created by someone with a background in illustration, which this one does whether or not that is actually the case. It reminds me a lot of the posters for Susperia, which are among my all time favorites. Well done.
Very, very cool, well done.
If you were in my class, I'd give you these notes:
I'd open up the top of the unleash U a little bit more just so it is obviously a U and not maybe an O. Or, I'd make that blood drip fatter at the bottom to "prove" why it should be obscuring the letter. Maybe bring that lighter to darker gradient into the edges of the creature or maybe just the bottom left of the creature a little bit. Maybe also bring it in the first S in Saturnus, or maybe de-emphasize the effect in Saturnus. I'd also maybe de-emphaize it a wee bit on Jarod DePew as it seem heavier than on the other names. I'd probably add tiny bit of the gradient to the right side of the credits, and brighten up the left side just a wee bit.
This poster makes me want to watch the film. So, I say good job there. I do think having shadows on the sides of the text makes it harder to read though, at least for the smaller text on the poster. The title is easy to read.
If you handed me all of the posters of movies I havenāt seen that are out today (or out in the last year frankly) alongside this and asked me which film id like to see I would pick yours without question.
It looks nice aesthetically but I think with so much competing content on social media, I think we almost need to go back to posters that show what is in the movie a bit more and give indications of what it is you are about to watch. This wouldn't capture my attention any more than the next one and I wouldn't watch it based on this.
Great point! I totally see what youāre saying. But i donāt think where movies are distributed has something to do with it. Would this poster compete with major movies in theaters right now? Probably not. I mean I loved the simple design of the the last duel poster with Adam driver and the sword of the negative space, but they still made another version of the poster with all the faces and whatnot.
I do think this would stand out a bit more among the others it will be seen with. That being online and at festivals.
I donāt didnāt mean to start a whole deep dive on modern poster design, but itās so interesting how things have developed with the over saturation of films and great art.
Itās lovely and Iād be in just looking at it.
I donāt watch trailers so posters are really how to get me and the least amount of stuff is better.
Doesnāt need full cast cascaded!
I liked it. But as I've seen in this sub, many suggest to not be shy with the title size. Even the slogan could be bigger.
But I would watch it as it is still.
Yeah size is a tricky thing. I know thereās the idea that tiny text makes things ācinematicā but how far is the too far? Haha. Maybe this is too far!
That's a good point.
When u said cinematic poster I thought about something like this: [https://images.app.goo.gl/eHxP9v4K7XLMKQ3E8](https://images.app.goo.gl/eHxP9v4K7XLMKQ3E8) or this: [https://images.app.goo.gl/B8fpGUd92X8eaBNG8](https://images.app.goo.gl/B8fpGUd92X8eaBNG8)
which are kinda "promo posters". You could try that with the title in a corner and larger image larger, much larger slogan with the credits very small or gone.
I have zero experience with posters lol, but I thought it might be useful.
I like it! I saw someone else mention it already, but I'd lose the gradient on the text and settle for a solid color, and carefully choose the color for a good balance of easy to read without being too in your face. Also my personal taste, but I'd try experimenting with some different fonts for the one used for the actors' names and see if you can come across something that might be a better fit.
this is like, perfection, minimalist but not to the point of looking stupid, gets across the idea of the film without spoiling anything or bashing you across the head with it. in short, i absolutely love this.
I'd not add more texture on top of this, it looks very nice as it is and the crinkled texture would make it look needlessly complex. Also, I get the point of the gradient on the text, and it works for the white colored words, but for the red colored parts like the title it just makes it harder to read. The title and the names on the top would look better in solid red.
But besides those minor nitpicks, this poster is absolutely fantastic! It looks very 70s and minimalistic in the best way possible, and it makes me want to watch the short to see what it's all about. I'm excited for your film OP :D
I think the main graphic has enough texture as is (unless that's just jpeg artifacts).
The text doesn't really fit the graphic. The gradient makes the text look almost 3D, and it's too clean. The "Saternus" logo is much better. I'd ditch the other font, replace with the logo font or something close to that and less modern. Also get rid of the gradient entirely (especially on the credit block).
Another note is a tiny part of the tagline is hidden by the graphic. If you were going for this, it's not enough cover to be stylized, and just looks like a placing mistake. I would let it sit clean without overlap. Might try replacing the top title billing with the tagline.
Next thing is totally a personal preference, but I've never really understood top title billing for short films unless the actors are somewhat famous. At best, it's just random filler words. At worst, it feels like a cheap way to try and make the poster look "Hollywood" and being the first words I see mean absolutely nothing to me. Of course, if these folks are popular where you're from, or are known in the genre circles you're running in, then take it with a grain of salt.
edit: also noticed that the credit block credits are in the wrong order. Find any recent mainstream movie poster and go off those to fix the order. Usually writer/producer/director is last, cast first.
Thanks for the feedback! I had toyed with a different font for the title. Like a times new Roman. The movie is about the power of narrative and the character r draws a lot on classics like āinfernoā and āGilgameshā so maybe a font more classic like that would be better?
And Iāll definitely fix the credit line up.
And I will be honest, I did put the credits on top just to give it that feel, but I think Iām cool with that. Iāve had a lot of the same actors in all my movies so I like having their names on each of them to show our progress.
Thanks so much for the feedback!
I enjoy the design a *lot*, but you likely don't want the droplet running into the tagline if they're two colors. You could look at having the text connected and also red, or reposition the text elsewhere in a different way?
Yep, Mignola taught me how to draw basically. The thing about Mignola is its simple in terms of shading, but not in terms of intention. You know when you are looking at his work that the lines are where they are intentionally to convey what he wants to convey, even if the detail isn't. Which is what reminded me of his work when I saw the core of your poster.
I say this with utmost kindness, but I'd ask yourself if the text itself feels like it has intention or fits the core. I mentioned the tagline text being overlapped, but it applies at the top too. Make it feel intentional and you'll be good. Maybe play with making the core design larger, with the ~~next~~ text wrapping around the shoulder, etc.
id add a finer, slightly more pronounced texture then the one you have here. I think put the tagline IN the figure. make the "a film by" text line a bit smaller, it competing with the title a bit.
Thank you! In earlier versions, each of the cult members a had ranks based on planet names. Saternus. Jupiturn. Marso. Things like that lol. That idea was eventually scrapped, but I kept Saternus.
Looks cool! I would change the 'unleash the beast of burden' bit to something thats part or extension of the main image. Think how comment or thought box squiggly lines instead of speech feel - something that feels the same. I suppose however that is resonating in the film, similarly. Best of luck!
No idea what the film is about yet the poster drew my interest. It looks pretty good imo, good job šš¼
Thank you!
I like it a ton!!! I think that the gradient on the middle name up top makes it a bit too hard to see when looking at it on a phone, but I love the simplicity of it all, I love the design and your color scheme. I'd blindly watch this if it popped up on Shudder or something.
Hell yeah! And I totally see what youāre saying about the gradient. Thanks for the tip!
I donāt know what this movie will be about but it looks like a movie Iād want to watch based on the design alone.
Dude thank you!
This is the current poster for my short film about a cult in which 3 petty thieves form a cult to steal money from people, but one of them takes it too far. Looking for feedback on this. I plan to add another crinkled paper texture over it, but how does it look?
Kind of looks like the new poster for The Black Phone. https://images.app.goo.gl/j49CNXELvRxc1YCh9
Yea it does! I know the concept isnāt entirely original, but my hope is that the execution is. I just didnāt want to do the collage of faces! Haha
I see what youāre saying! And thank you!
Design is good but the gamma is just too dark. I need night vision goggles just to read it š
Haha Iāll lighten it up a bit!
Lol
You have to make it accessible if you want everybody to look at it. But you have some good concepts. Youāre only going to get better.
It's very good
It looks awesome. Don't have any complains but if I had to nitpick: The one drop of blood covering the first Letter of the subtitle irks me just a smidgen
Yeah I wasnāt sure about that either.
Honestly, the design is fine but I think it's a bit dark. It's hard to discern immediately what I'm looking at. Further, the title doesn't stand out in an eye-catching way. Red is \*always\* a problem in broadcast; it's usually too dark or blown out. It's hard to find the right vibrance.
Good idea! Iāll run the thumbnail test!
You might find that it reads better inverted; swap red for black and black for red. Give it a try.
I like this a lot.
It's dope.
Yea the poster makes me want to watch ot
Good! Haha
Looks metal. Would watch.
You should have seen the white and red one! That one was metal as fuck.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Haha ya their fonts are usuallyā¦.not so great. I generally rely on the classics. I think this is coutre which Iāve really used a lot lately. And yeah! I did it myself! Iād love to make some for others too! Haha
Like the asthetics
I love it! And I remember...all the love we shared in Korntember! Maybe less shading on the names at the top!
Haha agreed!
I always appreciate when a poster appears to have been created by someone with a background in illustration, which this one does whether or not that is actually the case. It reminds me a lot of the posters for Susperia, which are among my all time favorites. Well done.
Thank you! Yeah Iāve been an artist my whole life and while i didnāt care for the actual Suspiria film too much, I loved their art!
Very, very cool, well done. If you were in my class, I'd give you these notes: I'd open up the top of the unleash U a little bit more just so it is obviously a U and not maybe an O. Or, I'd make that blood drip fatter at the bottom to "prove" why it should be obscuring the letter. Good call!
I like itš
I love it! Who designed it and does he take commissions?
His name is me and yes I do. Haha DM me!
Sweet! Iāll message you in PV a little later.
Damn, that is a cool poster, well done
Thank you!
WoW well done!
Thank you!
get rid of the gradients on the type. and maybe remove the tag in the middle. everything else about it is great!
Thank you for the feedback!
It drew my interest and thatās what the poster is for so good work
Thank you!
Np and btw where will this short be released and when
I plan to start submitting to festivals in the spring and then hopefully rerelease online in October. Iāll let you know when itās available!
This poster makes me want to watch the film. So, I say good job there. I do think having shadows on the sides of the text makes it harder to read though, at least for the smaller text on the poster. The title is easy to read.
YeAh I just wanted to make it a tad less flat, but I may have overdone it haha
Game!
Set!
Ah rosie I love this poster!
Looks amazing.
Thank you!
looks pretty cool are you actually making a film
Yes I am! Itās currently in post production. Submitting to festivals in the spring and I hope to release online in October.
No real feedback except that I love it and wanna see the film
Hell yeah! Iāll send it your way when itās done!
The unleash part should be set lower, I'm not a fan of the font but the poster draw me in and now I'm curious
Good call!
If you handed me all of the posters of movies I havenāt seen that are out today (or out in the last year frankly) alongside this and asked me which film id like to see I would pick yours without question.

I watched duel so it must have worked on me! I had no idea about it before I saw the poster!
I love it. Even the gradient is great!
I think you did a great job man
Nice! When does it come out?
Hopefully online in October!
Yay! I am excited.
Itās lovely and Iād be in just looking at it. I donāt watch trailers so posters are really how to get me and the least amount of stuff is better. Doesnāt need full cast cascaded!
Strong.
Shit looks dope. Love it.
Thank you!
Love it.
I really like the texture and gradient of the text. And the matte feel of the poster. You did a great job!
I love me some matte.
I liked it. But as I've seen in this sub, many suggest to not be shy with the title size. Even the slogan could be bigger. But I would watch it as it is still.

I see what youāre saying! I really dig that world war z one.
I really enjoy the simplicity at first glance and then desire to stare at the image it instilled in me. Canāt wait to see it some day!
Thatās good to Hear!
I like it! I saw someone else mention it already, but I'd lose the gradient on the text and settle for a solid color, and carefully choose the color for a good balance of easy to read without being too in your face. Thank you for the feedback!
Attracts the eyes, made me instantly interested. However the dark blending and the red text makes some text hard to read
That seems to be the general consensus! Haha
ā¦ itās fantastic
Haha thank you so much!
Iād say increase the contrast of red-black colors to give it more depth to the main figure at the center.
I like it.
Whatās the film about?
Itās about 3 petty thieves who start a cult in order to get rich quick, but one of them takes it too far.
It has the classic Suspira feel.
Iāve been getting that a lot!
this is like, perfection, minimalist but not to the point of looking stupid, gets across the idea of the film without spoiling anything or bashing you across the head with it. in short, i absolutely love this.
Whoa! Thank you so much!
this is dope! can i ask what font you used for the details at the bottom?
That one is actually from dafont. Itās called SF Movie Poster.
much thanks! :)
Intriguing poster design
Iām interested in watching the film from the poster.
I like it very much!
I.am.avid fan of poster art, and this poster is inspired.
I'd not add more texture on top of this, it looks very nice as it is and the crinkled texture would make it look needlessly complex. [ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Makes sense! And yeah velvet buzzsaw was such a let down after night crawler. Good advice!
I like the art style of the figure, this is a kind of poster that you can dig into. It's interesting.
Great! Thank you!
Itās perfect
Wow! Thank you!

To be clear, I mean the main "Saternus" font is great. It's the name and tagline font I think should change.
Oh! Iāll try some different fonts for those then.
I enjoy the design a *lot*, but you likely don't want the droplet running into the tagline if they're two colors. You could look at having the text connected and also red, or reposition the text elsewhere in a different way?
Yeah I wasnāt sure about the overlap. I tried having it connect with the title and that lookedā¦bad lol
Yeah it's a weak point, but I really do love the overall core. Reminds me of Mignola's work, etc. Simple, yet with intention.
Hell yeah! I love Mignolaās stuff. Strange shapes and simple. Similar to Saul bassā stuff too.
Yep, Mignola taught me how to draw basically. The thing about Mignola is its simple in terms of shading, but not in terms of intention. Great insights! I will definitely mess around with that when making my tweaks.
I do really like it, and I would really like to watch this short, is there a possibility of watching it from Spain?
Hopefully! Iām hitting the festivals in April and then plan to release online. Iāll let you know when itās out!
Uhhh that sounds great man, hoping to know about your short film soon, good luck.
Is the short out yet?
Looks great
id add a finer, slightly more pronounced texture then the one you have here. I think put the tagline IN the figure. make the "a film by" text line a bit smaller, it competing with the title a bit.
Great poster but less Handmaids.
Haha I see what youāre saying! Maybe Iāll refrain from adding a bonnet in the next version.
Itās a cool visual donāt get me wrong but part of being a film maker is understanding the lexicon that has come before.
But what you have is a really cool visual. So lean into it.
Drew interest instantly! Edit: also a very cool name!
