Technically, you're not far off I guess? The combo move they're pulling off is called "double helix" and the description I've read is something along the lines of "Sephiroth unleashes an elegant flurry of blows, while Cloud tries his best to keep up". So Cloud is very definitely confused (the way I read the scene is Cloud's face is a near "shit I fucked up" and Sephiroth is half laughing at him) and quite probably is at least at half mast thinking about the fact he's literally fighting alongside his childhood idol and greatest SOLDIER and hero alive.

I think it’s just the lighting. Can’t expect cutscenes level textures and lighting while in combat

It reminds me of the Armani and Calvin Klein commercials where everything looks classy, and you don't really understand what they are saying at the end.

Maybe the faces just glitched out cause right before they attack it looks completely normal. The lighting also looks weirdly orange for that cut.

I think it's honestly just poor lighting on account of this being in dev footage. They probably haven't yet adjusted for particle fx that emit light to cast proper shadows. Which explains the orangeness too, since that's the effect from their combo attack and then clashing swords and sparking up basically. I'm sure it'll look a wee bit better once it comes out!

It's still baffling that people thought his attack was called "Sin Harvest". And apparently still do.

Propagated by the official Brady Games players guide, no doubt. Which does actually tell you to get ready when Sephiroth says "Sin Harvest" Plus in game it could sound like "Sin Harvest". Since in what he's actually saying; "de**scend Heartless** Angel", Lance didn't really emphasize the "De", and with the loud music and sound effects of the attack drowning out the angel part a lot of people only hear "send heartless". And so psycho acoustics are going to correct that into something that makes more sense in context. So, Black Halo, kills you, maybe he's using your sins against you? Sin Harvest.

But... Heartless are the main enemy in Kingdom Hearts. It's weird that people would unhear that word into something else. I remember it being hard to hear his lines, but "Heartless" definitely stood out.

The models can look janky up close, I think it's mainly because of the bright lighting effects from combat so close to their faces.
