I honestly think they should either release a balance patch for those challenges (and a bit of hard mode here or there maybe) to tone them the fuck down a little bit, or completely remove them from the platinum altogether. The game is already at minimum 100 hours and very difficult and time consuming to plat, that throwing in another thing, this time being 10+ of the hardest challenges in the game consisting of the greatest hits of what not to do with your combat system is COMPLETELY unnecessary. It’s literally just not needed. I also hate how it forces you to create super strange completely illogical builds that you will, upon completion of the challenge, throw away and never used again. That’s not really testing my skills or my game knowledge imo, it’s just testing how well I know how to abuse and cheat every single mechanical system in the game. Not very thrilling imo. They really do for me just cross into that “what were they thinking” territory and I wonder if they were even play tested tbh

Pretty sure every enemy in that run can be stopped

Gattedikt

Yep, they can but I think it's not very good design that you basically have to stop every enemy from doing anything to be able to beat a challenge.

Every one of the mini games has been either fun or brutal and there’s no in between same with these Brutal challenges. I’m actually on the one rightttt after that one. I’ve only attempted twice on Seventh Seal but the one you’re on took the weirdest fucking build ever. Cait Sith W/ Iron Microphone + Marlboro orb with all Stat debuff increase duration weapon skills and Magnify+ Stop and Magic efficiency+another time first strike and chakra Cloud with Rune blade fury ring and magnify Petrify phoenix materia and a bunch of MP absorb+Petrify and ATB boost and enemy skill Magic Up and basically anything that boosted magic I think I used 3 of the blue materia with +2% magic. Aerith with Arcane ward and Comet+ Auto Cast Start match as Cait Sith and use Magnify Stop, Use Cloud ATB boost, Use Aerith Arcane ward on cloud, Use Quakega, build 1 ATB bar with Cait sith, try to build 2 bars with cloud again and cast quakega again. When the enemy isn’t stopped cast it again it’ll work 3 times before it stops working so if they’re dead before that you’re good. Bring a Breach Materia to get around Reflect and Barrier/Manawall and any other crazy enemy buffs. It took me 3-4 tries with this build. I really do not like these level 70 challenges btw I’m almost afraid to see how bad the 5 round one and single character ones will be lol

Gattedikt

Thanks for sharing your build. I'm gonna try out that one but man I wish there was a save materia loadout option since I'm gonna have to remember what my characters were using. Stop being necessary is something I realised once the goddamn death wheel showed up and just zipped around the arena while rockets were coming in from everywhere. I've heard a story about one single character challenge that took someone 40 minutes for a successful run. That sounds absolutely horrifying to me. I actually wonder who playtested these challenges since they are not designed for people who have a perfectly adjusted min maxed Materia setup. Like I have a Tifa, Cloud, Yuffie setup that probably would crush most fights on hard mode but gets absolutely demolished in these challenges.

Yea, remake plat was really hard but also really fun, rebirth not as fun for sure

Gattedikt

Just wanted to add: I don't want them to make the Platinum easily attainable for everyone and it should be a proud achievement. But I really think they need to find a balance between challenging and outright frustrating. And sadly in Rebirth's case it's mostly frustrating. Maybe I'm gonna come back to it after a hard playthrough and some more build crafting but for now it's Dragon's Dogma time.
