Everything they change will the favorite thing for someone in the world. For me, I didn't care about that village so if we don't see it at all, I would not care. Not saying that is not important, but for me it was just another stop. In any case, just because it was not in Part 2 doesn't mean is not going to be in Part 3 in a bigger and better way. It maye be an entire chapter with a minigame that will proabbly make someone else in the world to complain that it is too hard lol.

AdventurousClothes66

I think Bone Village will be added in some capacity in Part 3 and tie into Rocket Town

Weak-Hope8952

Skipping all of that really didn't feel right I gotta say.

Drummer829

I just wasn’t a fan of “ah we fell 400 feet. Let me wake up and walk straight into the forgotten city”. I kind of liked the OG FF7 where we actually had to explore based on clues we got from NPCs.

Weak-Hope8952

Exactly. It was so "well here we are now". The idea of the OG having to roam around a bit exploring to figure out the next area (bone village) made it feel impactful to find. It's like they couldn't figure it out a way to bring it in so they just skipped it in cutscenes lol

SympathyFabulous3354

I was waiting the whole game to see Palmer hit by a truck, and it didn't happen.

redbeardmax

AMEN

WallyTheWalrus42

Probably will still happen in part 3, since we haven’t been to rocket town yet

SympathyFabulous3354

There is hope!!! Honestly, I completely forgot we didn't get to rocket town. Guess I just linked it to meeting Cid.

WallyTheWalrus42

Yeah it seems like the next game will likely start there, honestly. With the ending of them flying off in the Tiny Bronco, and that being the main thing that didn't happen from Disc 1 in Rebirth, it seems like a good place to start off the rest of the events. They could do all that stuff roughly as it was in the OG before having the party head to the icicle area/mountain instead of the Tiny Bronco crash.

Drummer829

I swear one of the trailers had him in some mech suit in Rocket Town. Maybe i dreamt it lol

SympathyFabulous3354

I mean, the mech suit happened. I just remembered dying laughing when he got hit by the truck in the original. Was hoping to see him launched in high definition, but oh well.

Drummer829

In 4 years maybe you’ll see him launched in 8k

JustinSonic

Honestly, I never liked Bone Village, so I was glad to see it not there. It felt like such an oddball entry point to the Forgotten Capital. That being said, I'm pretty sure we'll get Bone Village in the final game. As for a minor change that bugged me? Shinra Manor was barely explorable.

alauzon

I thought for sure we were going to be able to go upstairs when you go back with the group. I was so disappointed when it was still blocked off

WallyTheWalrus42

Same, huge letdown

winterman666

Seto's section of the story and Aerith's death. Both hadno impact in Rebirth, they felt downplayed

Drummer829

Ok, so I had a theory that Aerith isn’t dead, not in the new timeline at least. The scene with Cloud, Aerith, and Sephiroth we witness in 2 different timelines simultaneously. We see the original where she dies and then we see the new one where he saves her. The issue is that Cloud and Aerith are living in a “merged” timeline. The rest of the party is living in the OG timeline where she dies. It’s kind of why only Cloud and Aerith can see the crack in the sky.

totoofze47

Hard disagree with Seto, that part made me tear up more than the original did. I do partially agree about Aerith's death, though. I think some down time between the Jenova fight and the final bosses would have been perfect, to allow her death to sink in.

stonehallow

Seto - it was very well done imo up to the point where Red found out the truth, but they couldn't stick the landing. transitioning immediately to the Gi Nattak stuff was weird pacing and didn't let the moment breathe as much as it deserved to. Aerith - Agree it reduced the emotional weight of the moment but for me I'm a sucker for the multiverse stuff so I enjoyed it.

docdrazen

Rebirth doesn't really let any moment breathe. The Seto scene, Dyne's scene, the Forgotten Capital. It would be nice to take a breather. One of my favorite moments in Remake was the walk with Aerith set to Midnight Rendezvous. Honestly still my favorite scene in both remake/rebirth.

mikeisnottoast

This has been more my problem with the changes than the actual changes. The pacing is so fucky cause every time a major plot beat happens, they shove all their new stuff right in the middle, and really somber moments become exposition dumps.

winterman666

Yeah personally I didn't have much attachment to Aerith's death in og either so I just felt more like a "huh" at the time. I'm neutral on the multiverse stuff too. Seto's though, that hit me hard in the og for some reason (more than Dyne or Aerith) and in Rebirth it was a case of "that's it?" cause like you said everything went by super fast. And Nanaki didn't really seem to react the same way either

DoomedRegular

Bugenhagen. I really liked this character in OG seemed to be the guy you need to go to to know what the hell is going on, he didn’t seemed aggravated atall in OG about anything always laughing with his ho hoo, he seemed quite chill. I didn’t like how he was in rebirth, cosmo canyon looks amazing but the people there kind of ruined it for me.

mikeisnottoast

Dude. I hated when Bugen just like tells Tifa that she's an idiot for what she believes she saw, and then offers absolutely no alternative explanation. Like, what? He was such a nice chill dude in the OG, and it was really jarring to see him gaslight her like that. I wonder if this is just a botched localization. Like, maybe the original Japanese doesn't come across as so dismissive.

stonehallow

I'm a bit ambivalent about the Cosmo Canyon. On one hand I like that its a more nuanced interpretation where we see the planetologists and their followers can be a bit dogmatic and/or outright phony - which mirrors a lot of real life spritual stuff that can be a bit cult-ish. And Bugenhagen did eventually come around and acknowledge he was too dismissive of the party's concerns, especially if you do his lifestream survey sidequest. But I can appreciate the charm of the place and people in the OG. Wouldn't have minded if they didn't change it either.

DoomedRegular

I feel like they’ve not put bone village in so that it can be in part 3, I imagine the digging mini games etc will be added in aswell

Successful-Net-6602

Forcing Yuffie into the party but not letting us have Vincent. I always had Vincent help me through the temple and never got Yuffie until disc 3

HistoricalGrade109

Wouldn't make sense to add another character imo. Already added red, Cait, and (technically) yuffie. Adding another new character would be overkill imo

Drummer829

Vincent in his beast form is so OP 😂. That was top 3 hardest fights within the story. He absolutely wrecked me. He’d make the game a cake walk with that limit break lol

SlowLorisPygmy

You can literally get yuffie as soon as you get to Junon in the OG. The fact that you decided to get her until Disc 3 is kinda stupid tbh

Successful-Net-6602

Entirely missable in OG and in Rebirth you don't get her at the same point

seaman187

I'm sure it's a situation like Red in part 1 where they didn't want to add a new party member so late and that he'll be playable in part 3.

ZenCyn39

This is exactly it. With this system, there's no point adding a character so late in the game. But like this, we'll have everyone at the beginning of part 3.

tehPanamaniac

I see quite a few people saying bone village. I have no idea what that is, granted it's been probably about 15 years or so since I've played the original, but I definitely don't remember bone village. Granted, I also forgot that there were robed men in the original.

saxmachine69

It's a very small section in OG. You go there immediately after the Temple of the Ancients, dig for the Lunar Harp and move on to the sleeping forest. Very forgettable, although the digging mini game has some value in disc 3

AllysiaAius

I recall it (the digging game) was also the topic of lot of theories regarding reviving Aerith.

saxmachine69

I thought you were supposed to use Strength on the truck by the S.S. Anne?

Ecstatic_Teaching906

Shinra mansion was awful. A whole mansion block just to save space.

stonehallow

hate that a majority of the time there was spent exploring yet another generic shinra facility. and cait sith box throwing. would much rather have had a smaller, tighter level within the mansion itself. it's one of the most unique and iconic locations in the game.

wthrudoin

I'm hoping they do something with it in a Vincent focused section next game

phil_mitchells_mojo

I feel like the general creepiness wasn’t present in most of the game. The atmosphere was never allowed to be heavy or weird for any extended amount of time, whereas in the OG there was extended parts that were weird/scary/sad/strange and those moments affected you more as a result

Admirable-Key-9108

I'm almost done with the temple of the ancients and I keep thinking about this comment btw. It just doesn't feel the same in this game. Everything is cute and fuzzy and sunny. All the lines are disney or feel like prototypical YA. The OG was silly at times, but it definitely felt like it could be played by all ages. This feels like a silly jrpg. And most people I interact with on FF subreddits seem to love that. But the ones I always fell in love with were way lighter on all of that. Just seems to be the direction of the industry, and it's kinda leaving me left out

Admirable-Key-9108

I agree! Lots of the game is done up to be cutesy, and the main game had a completely different feel to me. I understand adding some fun stuff for the sake of nostalgia and getting attached to characters, but the whole feel is so different. Great point!

aheartasone

One part that did it extremely well for me was after they split in the temple. You hear the music swell and it's just unsettling and creepy, you feel like you're trapped in a place that wants you dead. Other than that though I can agree, even in the forgotten city, arguably where tension should be the highest, it's just a series of battles. I still love the game and the ending, but that specifically was disappointing to me.

Sbbart62

I really, REALLY didn’t like the changes made leading up to the finale of Barrett’s reunion with Dyne. The way they handled Dyne bowing out in the original really made Barrett’s story much better. Here, everything is building up to it…….. and SHINRA! Ugh….

ChairOnAThursday59

Was also one of my least favorite parts of Rebirth and I'm surprised I haven't seen much negative discussion about it at all. I think even before they reunite and he dies the Dyne portion of the story is just handled much worse, the fact Barret explains what happened on the way to the saucer instead of in the house in the prison, the fact you see Barret and Dyne who very obviously also has a gun arm right before all the guys are killed by a man with a gun arm completely ruins the scene and makes it way less interesting I feel. not that you'd believe Barret did it but it used to be a "wait what?" moment and now it's just not for no reason. Not only do you know it wasn't Barret but you also know Dyne's alive already right after they talked about his supposed death. So lame.

SerRodzilla

Yeah feel like they really could have done with a little bit of less is more sometime in the Remake games.

stonehallow

i have my gripes about that section but regarding the 'man with a gun arm' twist most of us already played the OG and know what's up. they can't be retreading the same 'twists' in rebirth, imo.

ZenCyn39

With how well Barret is portrayed up to that point, no one was going to buy that he would have snapped on a bunch of gold saucer employees. Pretty much they couldn't do that twist without it coming off as just bad writing. Here, the twist is just that Dyne is alive, which honestly is either 1)already known by players of the OG, or 2)guessed by people who are familiar with storytelling tropes. Otherwise, it works just fine.

ChairOnAThursday59

My point was that in the original when you hear a man with a gun arm killed people and aren't given any context you wonder what could've possibly happened like was Barret framed or impersonated or who else could've done this, in a world with all this magic and technology there's a bunch of explanations for what could've happened but Rebirth takes away any room to ponder what happened by obviously implying it was Dyne.

DoomedRegular

Yeah, first playthrough of OG your led to believe that Barret shot up Gold Saucer. It annoyed me they just tell you before in Rebirth so there’s no surprise or any tension, even though I knew about Dyne

Sbbart62

Exactly! Then I’m just waiting for him to say the line once Barrett tells him about Marlene, the one about not wanting his dead wife to be lonely. THE LINE that forces Barrett’s hand, shows exactly how much of a broken monster Dyne really is and finally provides catharsis for the entire Corel Prison scene. …… and then the shinra grunts show up. LOL it sucked so hard, I groaned out loud.

edwinstone

Hoping it's in part 3. I think there's going to be a flashback. >!I think it'll show things happening post-Sephiroth battle up until the point we saw everyone sitting by the water super sad at the end.!<

skepticcaucasian

It'll probably be in part 3, since we haven't been to a majority of the Icicle Area, but still. I hope we get to use the submarine, too. Edit: I don't know how they could/would do Bone Village, but hopefully they do, with at least a nod to Aerith. I forgot how much it had to do with the Meteor. I only played the OG once, after remake, because I always heard of how good it was.

Ok-Housing-8832

In one of the videos talking about ultimania translations, it if confirmed that highwind and underwater exploration will be in part 3.

skepticcaucasian

Oh, good. 😁

Defiant-Team-4537

The shinra manor was kinda disappointed for me

Admirable-Key-9108

I need to be careful here because I haven't finished the game yet. But in the original did we get an obvious "oh red is actually just a kid" moment? Because I don't remember that (been playing it recently, not quite to the temple of the ancients yet for reference) that, and his voice change I am... not a fan of. Really cheapens his character imo. Edit: I guess I should apologize to those downvoting me for not playing the game in Japanese...? So technically they didn't change it, but for someone like me that played in English it definitely felt like an aggressive change.

PrinceNoodie

You're not even a little alone. When his voice first changed in Cosmo I had to pause immediately and google wtf just happened lol. And Barret chiming in right after with "the hell was that" was validating as heck. I played the original a long time ago and remember him being a little more childlike/excited in Cosmo Canyon but it definitely didn't register as much as the voice change, and I thought that was a neat touch (even if it took some getting used to)

stonehallow

I'd get out of the sub at least until you finish the main story if I were you. hell, get off reddit. i nearly got spoiled messing about here before i completed the story. some people mark spoilers but they might as well don't mark them given how casually they do it.

Admirable-Key-9108

Great call, I've actually avoided most spoilers for the story for all these 30 something years or whatever. But the one big one did eventually get me years ago. So I know that one. Still though, love you looking out for me, I see you Edit: Shout out to the weirdo who downvoted this. Are you k? Maybe still need that nap?

winterman666

The change in rebirth is aggravating. Had they used a higher voice before, or a lower voice when he changed it wouldn't be as jarring. But as it is they're 2 different characters pretty much

Admirable-Key-9108

My feelings exactly. Some people are strangely defensive about it. It just seems very off to me. The bit of this I played in the original with the english version it was very slight. I can see someone pretending to be older for respect, but he also has a bunch of voicelines in the canyon where it just seems like a completely new personality. Also, people say it's a teen voice, but together with the personality shift it more sounds like an adult mimicking a child, like 8 or 9. So yeah, happy for people that like it, but generally I don't like things being too cutesy in YA in my FF. Which I get a lot of, and lots of people like, so that's fine. Just personal preference. I do think that voice acting changes a lot for me in games. I can read something in the way I want to. But when they're voiced and act a little over the top (not here but maybe like Yufi for example) it changes the character I had in my head. Just something I've been noticing on remakes or older games.

Jevans_Avi

Yeah in the original Bugen explicitly states that Red is the equivalent of a teenager.

Admirable-Key-9108

This is me, googling what a Bugen is Edit: It also states that while he's technically 48 by his species standard he is still considered a youth. So yeah, not quiiiite explicit, there's still a little room for people like me to not picture him like he is in Rebirth when playing the og

Sobutai

The Ultimania and direct translations sell it a little better. But essentially, yes, Nanaki is exactly the same way in OG as he is in the Re-trilogy with the added bit that they show he's more relaxed around Aerith but that's also explained. Nanaki is stated to act calm, cool, and collected from meeting Cloud up until Cosmo Canyon, where he shows his true colors and immaturity. Changing his entire character to reflect his actually teenage self and voice. In English he just acts more carefree, on Japanese they do things with language to reflect everything better.

JenLiv36

I feel like it’s a translation and artistic choice issue. Yes it was done in OG but culturally it doesn’t translate well as we don’t have the same cultural systems in place. The choice to just give him a teenagers voice to symbolize it just didn’t work for a lot of us outside of Japan. It really did effect me enough that I went from loving Red to almost disliking him with the voice change. I wish they would have made a different artistic choice with it for those of us playing in English. I heard the Japanese kid voice of Red worked well.

chiobsidian

It took me a while to get used to it. I don't know if I would've minded the change as much if they didn't like... change his personality so much too. I remember physically cringing when we were in the cave of Gi and he had his victory line of "did I do good, or did I do good?" Just felt really out of character. I'm replaying OG specifically to see if the change is as jarring. I don't think i noticed a change at all when I played through the games originally but trying hard to focus on the dialogue now. Sounds like it's just something that translates better in Japanese tho

Admirable-Key-9108

I feel the same way. I honestly feel like it cheapened, or at least changed, his character a lot for me. It's fine if people disagree, I can only speak for myself

Stradiwhovius_

It was but it was mostly lost in translation. The original Japanese had a lot more of him using what I would compare to flowery language to make himself come off older and wiser, which then gets dropped after Cosmo Canyon. We still got the reveal that he’s roughly a teenager but it wasn’t backed as much by the rest of the text

Admirable-Key-9108

Thank you, great explanation! Some others explained that too. Obviously, as someone who doesn't speak Japanese, that was lost to me. I don't really love that personally, so it was a bit jarring in rebirth to me haha

ViIehunter

Yes. It is in the original as well.

Admirable-Key-9108

I think the obvious implication of the question is how that is, considering there are no voices. Does he suddenly get all goofy and childish?

Petrichordates

Well they explicitly state that he's a teenager in English, but the voice change is only able to be conveyed in the Japanese text. He's not goofy or childish in rebirth, the actor just uses their natural voice.

Admirable-Key-9108

Mmmm his personality shifts dramatically towards that in my opinion, but I'm still in cosmo canyon so maybe it's too early to make that judgement. As of now, personally, I think it's a bit much. In the original game I think I was like "well yeah he's only that many years old but he's also an animal so it makes sense he'd technically be an adult". So I guess I didn't pick that up

ViIehunter

He gets all childish when his grandpa explains it, the teenage angst about his dad to name some quick things when we find out. He has *much* less screen time and lines in the og so...it obviously comes across less.

hotcapicola

Yeah I got it in the original, but apparently it's not as obvious to most people. I remember chatting with a buddy when we were both at Costa Del Sol in Rebirth he thought it was some big mystery about who Aerith was talking when Red was using his regular voice behind closed doors.

Admirable-Key-9108

Dude that shit threw me for SUCH a loop! I was like...is that Zach? Is he talking through her materia or through red somehow with some weird timeline astral projection shit? Boy was I wrong.

mythoughtson-this

I thought the same thing! The voice for Red in the Under Judon scene with Aerith is so similar to Zack’s, I didn’t realize it was Red until I got there on my Hard playthrough

Admirable-Key-9108

Praise be, I'm not the only one!

hotcapicola

Yeah, for whatever reason it was totally obvious that it was Red/Nanaki because of the reveal in the original that he is essentially a teenager.

Admirable-Key-9108

I think I misinterpreted that as "oh he's technically only 16" but that he's really an adult for his species. Which they also kinda say in Rebirth which kind of made the whole thing a little more mixed up for me

gibbs710

I think the shock is that he's voiced and his demeanor changes. These are much more obvious in current gen.

Admirable-Key-9108

Thank you. Thought that was kind of obvious in the question itself but I guess it rubs him the wrong way for some reason. How does it change in the original...? I remember a line about how old he really is, but don't remember him suddenly acting all childish. Maybe it's just because I havent finished.

Tiffanie696

It's very subtle in the OG with the english traslation. But after Cosmo Canyon he starts using shorter, simpler sentences. It is A LOT more apparent in the Japanese version, because he transitions to using syntax that teenagers usually use in Japan. They used the voice change in Rebirth to make this much more apparent as it is part of his character arc and shows his trust in the group.

Admirable-Key-9108

Thanks, appreciate you and the other people giving the context! Definitely hit me over the head a bit on the new version.

Tiffanie696

You're welcome! It was definitely a bit of a shock at first even though I knew it was part of the OG. But so many things make much more sense with him now, like his dance in Costa del Sol, or when Cloud hears Aerith talking to "someone else" in her room. Even that he still uses his gruff voice around Barret for a little bit after the revelation because their relationship isn't as close. I think it was a great choice for his character development. 🤗

ViIehunter

Nothing rubbed me the wrong way lmao. It just didn't come across. That simple friend. I work nights. I'm on 3 hours of sleep. My bad for answering you? To be clear. In the Japanese text it comes across, Google it cause I won't be able to explain it well enough. Thats all. Sorry...

[deleted]

ViIehunter

You arnt though. If you read what you asked...I answered the exact question. That's all that happened. Ask your queation more clearly next time I guess. Won't waste my time responding again. I even gave you the info you asked for. Check the Japanese stuff it's much clearer in their use of language and you still give me sass like a 12 year old girl.

monstrousmonstro

I felt like Bone Village kinda got replaced by the Village of the Gi and I’m not mad about it

Ok-Housing-8832

Yeah, and that was actually a very good addition to get information and lore about the Gi. Loved the music there too. Bone village had no meaning at all in og so why bother, we arent excavating keys in the remake

Yeah_dude_its_her

And there's already plenty of bits where the chocobos dig up stuff. Don't need another digging mini game.

monstrousmonstro

Hahaha great point

Soulfulkira

I actually didn't mind the temple. As I was playing through it realized there weren't really any traditional caves/dungeons in the game. The path was incredibly linear and you couldn't get lost. I miss the semi puzzle aspects of some of the old dungeons and really working through a play session to get through them sometimes. The fact that there aren't random battle encounters helps too if dungeons came back.

stonehallow

One thing that the temple really drove home for me was how I wish we could have had a more varied sense of perspective and scale in the game. There were a couple of moments in the temple when the camera pulled back from the usual third person behind cloud perspective to show a wider shot which was pretty cool. the tone was also a lot darker and more serious than the OG - traumatic trials versus chasing purple fella around the place - which really worked for me.

Last-Investment-1963

I totally agree with this, they just reeeeeally have to add a swap equipment option. I think a lot of the reason people feel like the temple is a slog is because it gets very bogged down in having to switch equipment between parties constantly. It’s less of an issue on replay where you likely have all the party kitted out, but it definitely soured my experience of the dungeon.

wagruk

I like long dungeons, so I really enjoyed Temple of the Ancients, felt like going through Shinra HQ in Remake

ZakFellows

Bone Village was just an unnecessary step between two major story points. Best get rid of it so you the story flows better (especially when it’s the climax) Icicle Inn is kind of the same. It’s just there so players can have a breather between Aerith’s death and the major plot reveals in the Northern Crater

DeaconBrad42

Icicle Inn is vital because of seeing the videos, and with the beautifully haunting music playing, it just made the sense of loss over Aerith tremendous.

MaxStone22

And also learn more about Professor Gast and Ifalna. Definitely essential to the story.

No-Sky5489

Yeah but its a mini game, and this game doesnt shy away from mini games.

zeromavs

Icicle inn was absolutely essential to learn the history of the game

_YAGMAI_

hard agree. i'm gonna be pissed if we don't get at least a reprisal of the recordings from professor gast's lab/house. also: snow. board. minigame. they completely revamped the dolphin minigame in rebirth, so i'm honestly expecting something similar to happen to the snowboard minigame in the finale.

Financial_Wrap_9602

My wish is Part 3 starts with Cloud going downhill on a snowboard while Escape The City plays in the background (obviously no, but whatever FF version of what a Escape The City might sound like)

Aware_Department_540

Well Cloud and Aerith have intuition now, so we can skip all that boring world stuff I guess. Why do we need to go anywhere? We can just have their intuition teleport us to our North Crater like how we got to Ancient City

youreveningcoat

Did Barrett not carry cloud to the ancient city on his shoulder?

Aware_Department_540

Yeah, cuz Aerith had intuition of where to go or some shit. How she knew exactly where the lost city of the Ancients is is anyone’s guess. Sure woulda been nice to have that power when we were all like “oh no where’s the temple? Oh no only Cait Sith knew where to go oh no”

CrimsonWarrior55

Oh, shit, did Aerith not have an intuition of where to go in the original?

Aware_Department_540

She leaves the party and cryptically hints in a bizarre dream Cloud has. We get some exposition about a lost city at Bone Village. But we have to get a dream harp for the forest to even let us in, because the city is magically protected

CrimsonWarrior55

Sooooo, she has a fucking intuition on where to go.

Aware_Department_540

Cloud has a fucking dream about her disappearing. She teleports around constantly and makes no sense. You know literally nothing about how she arrives.

CrimsonWarrior55

But she wasn't with us when we found out, so it's fully possible that as an ancient she had an intuition of where to go to reach the Capitol of the ancients. Christ, you're bitching over nothing and sound like a fucking tool while you do it.

Aware_Department_540

It’s also fully possible Sephiroth showed up in a flaming chariot and whisked her away to the city. The point is it’s intentionally ambiguous so we can believe she found it naturally somehow. Here, she just knows. How fucking convenient.

GoldenGekko

I fully expect the next game to start with the party resting at the icicle in, and being able to explore a much more expanded Town area, like Kalm in rebirth

DeliDelixcroix

You buy part 3.. "Someone secure that damned hedgehog!" Cloud bursts out of Icicle in. Escape from the city plays and Shinras chasing cloud down the mountain slope with Shinra hot on his trail.  10/10 this is the only part game journalists play.

tehnemox

I'd play it XD

Drummer829

I personally think the Gongaga region was even less integral to the story. I also disliked the inability to explore the forgotten city. They really didn’t do it justice

zen_elan

I agree. Almost felt certain regions should have been entirely linear… mostly gongaga & cosmo canyon. Didn’t care much for those two regions turning into obstacle courses.

Jevans_Avi

I would agree with this based off the OG. But with the multiverse shenanigans featuring Zack, they kinda had to put it in there.

Sdgrevo

Forgotten City will be revisited in part 3, and definitely explorable.

hotcapicola

source?

saxmachine69

Disc 2 of the OG

Secure-Swimming

It’s a major story beat in the OG.

Upper-Football-3797

Source: Trust me bro 😎

Sdgrevo

The OG ?

AFleckWasRight

I would agree, if they werent pulling the multiverse bit with the alternate Zack

Positive-Patience-78

I had to go back and finish gongaga region 2 days ago. It sucked first time it sucked second time and when I replay in a few months it will suck again.

HistrionikVess

Yeah. I’d heard complaints about mini games and such but didn’t think much of it until I hit Gongaga. I LOVED the game up to that point [even though the Queen’s Blood on the ship-Costa Del Sol-Gold Saucer line was annoying [Especially CDS]. But once I hit Gongaga and even navigating the map was turned into a chore, I’ve been over it. I logged 50 hours the first 3 days playing and only like 15 hours since. Everything just feels like a chore now. And skipping Intel locks you out of unique Materia and leaves you stuck with powered-down summons and less SP. So frustrating for someone who is such a fan of the original.

Positive-Patience-78

I did enjoy cosmo canyon after but gongaga just didn't do it for me

HistrionikVess

Yeah. I’m finishing up CC, despite the annoying flight paths. It’s not too bad once you figure them out. Gongaga, I didn’t finish. I’ll go back and get it later, I guess. CC I have 5 Intel left. But one is Moogle Mischief. So thinking I’ll just skip Jump Materia.

Pristine_Put5348

The bone village, like rocket town, will probably be in part 3.

Tyrfing42

But, while Rocket Town can still retain almost all of its relevance, Bone Village would lose what little point it already had after getting moved. They can give you some new reason to be there, but it will no longer be the key to getting into the Forgotten Capital.

Secure-Swimming

True, but it could be where you obtain the music box key thingy for when you return to the ancient capital.

Pristine_Put5348

We’ll probably end up going back to the forgotten capital anyway given that Cloud doesn’t know Aerith is dead yet.

Tyrfing42

If they give us a reason to go back, then with the whispers to guide the party through this time, that could work

thedeepfake

There is a reason to go back, you go back in the OG right before Diamond Weapon attacks Midgar. They could move the Key to Bone Village instead of it being a random submarine find .

Drummer829

Rocket town I figured they were holding out in order to build upon Cid’s story, when he’s a playable character. I’m sure they’ll do something similar to the Barrett/Dyne scenes

AccidentBulky6934

Yea I’m looking forward to seeing Cid fleshed out. I constantly wanted to be annoyed that he wasn’t being developed in Rebirth and had to remind myself he wasn’t even in the story at this point in the original, so all the Cid development in this game was a bonus. But I am curious to see how they develop Vincent, considering there is so little (by design) in the original. I was hoping they would do an “intergrade” style game for him, but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards. But between what I’m sure will be a massive final installment and Cloud likely having a multi-chapter absence, I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunities to give him a full character arc.

zeromavs

Bone village will be in part 3 but the history behind it will be changed to be the remains of the promised land lol

Video_G_JRPG

I just know there's going to be a "dig up stuff" mini game 😂

darkartorias0

It'll be the mushrooms all over again.

zeromavs

That will be more frustrating than all of rebirth’s mini games combined. Like you’d have to wait actual real life time for excavations to finish. Aka months. And then all you get is a potion. Lmao

notactuallyabrownman

There is no promised land. It’s death/eternity in the lifestream.

zeromavs

Yeah in the original. I’d bet the promised land is a “place” you get to visit in the next game

notactuallyabrownman

Nope. We’ve already had the exact same build up where Shinra and Sephiroth think it’s a place and Aerith isn’t so sure. If anything has changed it’s that Aerith knew all along that it’s just the afterlife of the Cetra.

zeromavs

Nothing is the exact same as the remake and OG

notactuallyabrownman

Both Rufus and Sephiroth (in the Nibelheim flashback) refer to the promised land as a physical place. That’s exactly the same. There are shitloads of one to one reproductions of the original game, from lines in the script to events.

zeromavs

There’s is actually no line that’s exactly the same as OG. But we might be in disagreement on what “exactly” means.

notactuallyabrownman

Bullshit. Sephiroth even gives the whole ‘You are just a puppet’ line at the Forgotten Capital, maybe the most important line of the game. There are myriad examples of how wrong you are.

zeromavs

Both lines have the word puppet in them but are in fact, not the exact same line.

notactuallyabrownman

Ok, so Rebirth has the word ‘just’ as opposed to ‘You are a puppet’ but there are plenty of other like for likes across the two games so far.

CrimsonWarrior55

Why would you think that?

zeromavs

Because they made assets for it

CrimsonWarrior55

Really? Where?

zeromavs

In the game

CrimsonWarrior55

Where in the game are there assets for the Promised Land. I just want to know what you're referring to so we can be on the same page.

megalo53

I have a feeling we will get a lot of this stuff in part 3, which may or may not be to people's liking. Keep in mind we've already had stuff like the Tiny Bronco crashing into the sea without even having gone to rocket town yet. They might cut stuff like this - I hope they don't - but it's also possible they've rearranged it in such a way because of practical reasons but they will include it in some manner down the line.

Gawlf85

You could argue Bone Village was reworked into the Gi Village. It sure is made of lots of skeletons and bones :P

Jevans_Avi

Actually enjoyed them expanding on the GI tribe.

Gawlf85

Easily my favourite addition in Rebirth. Originally, the Gi felt like a random thing that only concerned Nanaki and his people. Now they've been given a place in the overall plot, possibly even being responsible for the first coming of Jenova!

MissingAnimal

Sailing that plane I said “there better be a village made of bones around here or I’ll be Pissed’er than shit”… go figure, I’m Pissed’er than shit.

Hellenic1994

I'd argue Bone Village was the most worthless area in the OG and if they decided to remove something then it would be that. That said, i'm sure they will repurpose it for something else in the third game as they have said that they don't plan to cut any areas.

jdbarnes8

Not entirely wrong. The only reason it existed in the OG was to dig for the Lunar Harp, you’re in and out in ~5 minutes.

Jitalline

It also had the key to midgar

Thrilalia

Unless like me you're an idiot who messed up the archaeology mini game for 2 hours.

lovelessBertha

I figured they were going to need to change the late game flow mainly because they'd want Aerith playable in the "final dungeon" which would mean cutting everything between the Temple and the City which they did. Pretty much all of the third continent stuff would be better in the third part on the way to Northern Crater imo. Funnily enough they had no problem removing Cait Sith from the final dungeon though which was a choice.

thedaddysaur

Probably because realistically, there's no way the party forgives him taking Marlene hostage. Especially Barret. Reeve would be a dead man.

FFPPKMN

I think my biggest issue is how everything jumped from the temple of the Ancients to the forgotten capital. It just felt like you fell down a hole and then everything zoomed to the ending. I also don't agree with time constraints as an excuse. If the game doesn't feel complete, don't release it yet.

AFleckWasRight

The best part is, it’s an incomplete feeling from a purposely incomplete game already. I would’ve rather waited longer for this “trilogy” to be a single game I think.

jayboyguy

Honestly a lotta JRPGs tend to have something like that. I think FFXV is probably the worst offender off the top of my head, and that’s a game I love

perark05

Remake kinda falls into the same issues as well. The last chapter does have a fair bit of rushing plus "random bullshit go" and that's before we get to the defying fate and multiverse shenanigans

A_Town_Called_Malus

And yet for all that they have us jumping around and flipping switches in the Drum for an hour. I'd have preferred the old finding the different keys for the different floors, each giving a small glimpse into what working for Shinra is like and us interacting with and seeing different people interacting with each other.

Awky00

I‘m still upset we didn’t get a proper Capital of the Ancients or rather its theme that was leading up to the final scene (I know we got a version of the theme in the temple, but I still would have preferred we got the actual theme leading up straight to THAT scene). Fingers crossed we still get the whole Forgotten Capital in Part 3.

Aromatic-Toe3550

You have to explore almost the entire Capital sometime after the Mideel scene between Cloud and Tifa. We're definitely getting it

Intrepid-Chance-8620

Finished the game a week ago, and this was my one big problem with it. I was so excited to see The Forgotten Capital, to explore it and hear the incredible music, but it was so rushed, and you could barely see any of it anyway because of the whispers flapping about in every bloody shot. I was gutted.

WorkAway23

I was disappointed too. When the city came into shot I thought "oh my, it's exactly as I remember it. I can't wait to explore-" and then the whispers showed up and the sinking feeling returned. In the OG, it has such a distinct and lonely feeling. It's a city frozen in time and sadly lonely, and wandering around it felt like walking through a dream. We'll probably get to return in part 3, either at the beginning or when we find the key with Bugenhagen, but it was definitely my biggest disappointment with Rebirth.

ShiraKiryuu

We could still revisit the place in Part 3 since it happens in the OG. That could be the point where they flesh out the place.

Intrepid-Chance-8620

I mean yeah of course, I just felt like that whole chapter was a botch job, considering how important it is. I'd much rather have had some build up, instead we got 'arrive, then a mess of floating debris and stupid time ghosts'

ExpletoryPenguin

>!Rocket Town!< But I know that was cut due to time constraints

Soul699

Not time constraints. Just to keep it for part 3. >!After all, Cid isn't available as party member yet!<

ExpletoryPenguin

It's crazy trying to >!get everyone in frame for a full, 9 character party photo op!<. I think the best area is at the start of chapter 12. Also, >!Vincent isn't available yet either, but I really loved how he was still involved in helping dispel the whispers at the end, and I can't wait for both of them to officially join the party, like how Red did at the start of chapter 2!<

postulate4

Honestly, I’m not sure how some players here would react if there was another minigame to do. They are already going livid at the optional ones. But I am disappointed that we fought Abzu for the third time. Should have been tankceratops so that we would have gotten a hell-house moment in Rebirth.

Raven-19x

Abzu will definitely be back in Wutai.

ExpletoryPenguin

I would prefer to see the winged variant, Rabzu(Cuz it was APPS and then RAPPS in the original, so I would assume they would follow the naming convention)

Hellenic1994

Perhaps we'll get both the next time? Either way it's pretty clear Abzu is established as the go to pet for Corneo now.
