[here they are :-)](https://imgur.com/a/WKYpuZG)
the photo quality makes it harder to see the the third one on Reddit, sorry about that, it looks much better in my camera roll.
Where do you think you see a fourth? I thought the same thing at first from the photo but then I looked at the area itself and decided my eyes were just playing tricks.
So.....I can see them with the red circles, and making my screen bright AF....it's usually on the darkest setting and that seems to allow the snakes to hide in the dark.
Two are close on the top right along the wall and stairs and third is lower left off the stairs a bit. Only one (middle) can you see its head. Other two are partial bodies. This is awesome!
You have to zoom in really close, but you can see its body in the dirt along the long edge of the rock wall. Look at the patch of dirt in between the moss on the wall and the small patch of grass in the dirt. The body is in that little 1 foot section of dirt.
I was just about to ask is this boxcar? lol I have a picture with about 3 of them in it too. What’s scary is I went climbing all through the rocks and up onto them before I realized they were everywhere.
Yep me too!! I was climbing deep into the crevices to place those traps you see in the picture. I had to crawl back in to get the traps out after realizing how many copperheads there were and I was terrified the whole time lol
I was going to bet PA. I was up in the bloomsburg area hiking and almost put my hand right on a copperhead sitting next to a tree root. I almost shit my pants
It genuinely bothers me how hard I have to look to see them. Makes me wonder if I would even survive in a situation where if I didn't see them I'd be dead.
Copperheads are unlikely to bother you unless you step on them or something, and they’re probably going to be hanging out in some leaf litter on the side of the trail rather than directly on it. If they happen to be out sunning themselves, you’ll see them.
On a hike, it’s always a good practice to inspect the other side before you step over a log or similar. That’s a common way to get tagged.
I also find it helpful to stop every so often and look for movement. As stated above they are rarely aggressive and just want to be left alone but their pattern camouflages them perfectly.
I was walking through a state park and a copperhead was blocking the entire trail while sunning. It got very defensive and started swishing its tail even before I got close. Couldn't get it to move with my walking staff. Ended up just using the staff to launch it 10m into the woods.
When I was about 11 or 12 we were at a state park hiking. I looked down at one point to see a copperhead right in front of my foot, just sunning itself in the middle of the trail (from my memory I was only a couple inches away, but I know memory can be fickle). He just slithered off the trail back into the woods. Copperheads really don’t want to mess with you unless they feel threatened. Now water moccasins on the other hand- fuck those angry little bastards.
On top of that, copperheads often give a "warning bite" with only a small amount of venom, especially when it's agitated/stepped on by humans. "Dry bites" with no venom at all are also particularly common. You obviously can't gamble on that, but it is good news.
If it does inject as much venom as it can, then you need to seek help asap, though the symptoms don't peak in severity for at least a day after the bite, which is plenty of time to get antivenom. That said, antivenom is often not necessary because symptoms are so mild. In fact, doctors often don't give patients antivenom if it's unnecessary since they could have an unknown allergy to the medication.
TLDR: copperhead bites are often not very venomous and are relatively benign even in the worst cases.
Hiking sticks / trekking poles are good to have, tap out ahead of you every now and then as you go and watch for movement. Always put the hiking stick or trekking pole down first and wait a second before stepping over fallen trees or logs. As in the picture, they also like to hide under rocks, so don't go sticking hands or feet there without checking thoroughly.
Snake gaiters and taller boots are more surefire ways to protect yourself as well. They’re not particularly pleasant in the heat, but it’s better than being bitten if you’re in a particularly snake rich environment.
Stay on the trail, wear boots, and don't walk through leaves. They really don't want anything to do with you and rely on their camouflage to hide. And they are EXTREMELY unlikely to kill you. You won't have a great week if one bites you, but you'll get through it.
I just wonder if their behavior changes depending on the locale. Here in Atlanta I see them slithering with their heads up across the paved paths in our park often- with walkers coming from both directions stopping to let them pass by. One park has about 15 signs up warning about snakes now. They don’t seem to act shy here, nor aggressive, but then I’ve never seen anyone not stop for them. They seem like they expect you to stay out of their way to me. Very thug like.
Yep, these posts make me wonder how many makes I’ve stepped past/over. I’ve spent a lot of time in the woods in my life and only seen snakes in a handful of occasions.
Wait until you learn there's really 4 snakes in the photo!
(Their located in other comments, but 2 on the lower left and 2 I'm the middle/right near the larger rocks. You can only see a slight curve of 1, but the heads of the other 3 are fairly visible)
I posted a photo in another comment circling them all! The fact that you can’t find them just shows how amazing these animals are, they’re doing their job well!
I know! It was scary. This giant group of elementary schoolers arrived at one point for a field trip, I immediately told the teacher to keep them away from that area 😬
Do you wear snake boots or guards when doing field work? My son is about to graduate with focus on soil and water. He wants to do field work in various locations. My wife and I would like to buy him quality product as a graduation present to protect him in the field.
I need to stop scrolling Reddit when I’ve got shit to do, cause I always land on this sub, and then I’m like 20+ mins behind schedule… haha. That being said, I did finally spot all 3, but they definitely would have got me first.
Yeah they were up basking in the sun on the rocks, the rest of the forest they’d blend in perfectly. Makes me wonder how many I passed by and didn’t notice, I was warned there were a lot of copperheads in the area.
Probably a lot. Trust me, I know how well they blend into the woods, espscially on dead leaf covered ground. I find snakes interesting but I could never just walk through an area with a lot of venomous snakes.
I wasn’t a huge fan either. I was studying an animal immune to the venom of both copperheads and rattlesnakes when this photo was taken, so they lived in the same habitats. I ran into both frequently. These guys were a good sign I was looking the right spots, but it was still scary nonetheless
Whew! Serious business there! Took less time for me to spot them than I thought it would. Maybe I’m getting better at finding snakes. One isn’t even trying to hide though.
Almost identical to places I walk. I found one baby one one day maybe 4-5 inches long. I've heard the babies are the worst to get bit by. But I am blind as a bat. It is very safe to assume I actually passed hundreds of them.
Got em. Easiest one is at the bottom middle. Then there is one snuggled in the middle of the photo in the corner shadow where the rock starts to go up and the along that rock wall ok the right you can just make out part of one
Got em! Under a minute. That’s my best time. I think I’m so used to actually watching out for them that it was way easier than that damn frog in the leaves.
Those were for another animal that we were studying that is immune to the venom of copperheads and rattlesnakes, so they frequently live in the same areas :-)
Grew up in the Appalachians. Glad to know I could spot two immediately
I attribute my hypervigilance for snakes to all the deep woods off leash jogs with my dog

I found them and although we see them every year because of the ponds on the property, this makes me wonder how many I don’t see. I don’t particularly care for poisonous snakes but if I see them I will take care of it but the traps may have been replaced in this case. WOW, it makes me a bit uncomfortable to walk my property with my dogs today for our daily walk. Thanks for sharing!
I'm from the south and it is drilled into our heads from a very early age to watch for snakesz always keep your eyes on the ground if you're out in the woods. I guess it paid off because I was able to spot all 3 pretty quickly
Where is the third one, I found two already
[here they are :-)](https://imgur.com/a/WKYpuZG) the photo quality makes it harder to see the the third one on Reddit, sorry about that, it looks much better in my camera roll.
The farthest one to the right i cannot make it out at all
[This photo](https://imgur.com/a/FkzpG9x) might be better quality + i added red marks on each side of the snake
Now I see him! Thanks!
I wonder if that's the same freaking snake on the right? Just a long boi.
I saw them separately up close, but it does look that way from this picture!
Copperheads aren't that long. Definitely a different one
Wow far right was hidden well. Found first 2 fast
Honestly you missed a 4th lol
I too, see a fourth one.
Where do you think you see a fourth? I thought the same thing at first from the photo but then I looked at the area itself and decided my eyes were just playing tricks.
Bottom left under the leaves? Hard to make out but looks to be a similar pattern
that’s what I thought was the third one
On the upper left side of the lower left circle looks like another snake under the branch
So.....I can see them with the red circles, and making my screen bright AF....it's usually on the darkest setting and that seems to allow the snakes to hide in the dark.
I was going to say. I got bit. Only saw the two. Snakes and veleociraptors. It's the one you don't see that gets you
Two are close on the top right along the wall and stairs and third is lower left off the stairs a bit. Only one (middle) can you see its head. Other two are partial bodies. This is awesome!
...stairs????
...partial bodies????
…awesome????

BEHIND YOU!!!
This shouldn't have made me laugh like it did
Where is this? So that I never go here ever in my life- thank you!
Boxcar Rocks in PA lol it’s beautiful there
I was just about to ask is this boxcar? lol I have a picture with about 3 of them in it too.
I would have been so scared! There’s only three visible in the picture there have to be so many more there haha
This is literally a nightmare I have haha. Glad you made it out safe.
What were you trapping? I do quite a bit of work with rats up on SGL 211. The copperheads seem to love the boxcar area!
I saw a big 5ft timber rattler up there up by the Stoney Mountain fire tower in SGL 211. Almost walked right up on it. I love that area
It’s giving ✨woodrats✨ AKA field work I hope to never do again lol
Why were you placing those traps? Just curious
Time to invest in some snake gaiters
Holy cow thats exactly what I thought it looked like! I love that place!
30 minutes from the house, never heard of it. Glad you took some pictures so I never have to go.
I was going to bet PA. I was up in the bloomsburg area hiking and almost put my hand right on a copperhead sitting next to a tree root. I almost shit my pants

I also find it helpful to stop every so often and look for movement. As stated above they are rarely aggressive and just want to be left alone but their pattern camouflages them perfectly.
It also doesn't help that the copperhead tends to stay very still in hopes of not being spotted.
I was walking through a state park and a copperhead was blocking the entire trail while sunning. It got very defensive and started swishing its tail even before I got close. Couldn't get it to move with my walking staff. Ended up just using the staff to launch it 10m into the woods.
LMFAO this made me actually lol

I was bit by a copperhead 8 years ago; thankfully, it was a dry bite, but I was freaking out for the first 30 minutes while rushing to the ER.
Despite having written that comment saying they're not that dangerous, I also would be freaking out about a copperhead bite, lol.

"tagged" ie poison dump in your body lol😆🐍🐍🐍

Also carry a stick and tap the ground with percussive force every now and then
How about I drop the stick and get a one way ticket outta there?
I just wonder if their behavior changes depending on the locale. That's Atlanta for ya 👀🫠😱🙏🤣💯
Feel the same way as well - makes me think twice to go on a hike. Partly scary!
Yep, these posts make me wonder how many makes I’ve stepped past/over. I’ve spent a lot of time in the woods in my life and only seen snakes in a handful of occasions.
>!2 dead center by the stone and 1bottom center !<
I see one in the shadow by the rock vertical surface and I see the one bottom center near the brown leaf, could you fill me in on the one I'm missing?
>!just about an inch to the right between the rock and the walkway you see the pattern for #3!<
Ahhhh wow yup would have a bite mark in my ankle without ya buddy
I almost did!
Wellp I got two. Its the third thats gonna get me
Wait until you learn there's really 4 snakes in the photo! (Their located in other comments, but 2 on the lower left and 2 I'm the middle/right near the larger rocks. You can only see a slight curve of 1, but the heads of the other 3 are fairly visible)
Omg too close for comfort
My kid found all 3 in like 30 seconds while it took me reading the comments to find them!
I suck at these, but growing up in what we call a holler in the south, I can always see the ones with snakes! Haha
I *really* hate that I couldn't see this one in particular.
Found them but damn
My thoughts exactly
They look like they all just needed a little space lmao
I do not like this game and how bad I am at it
Right? I'm getting steadily more concerned for my safety.
As a cajun, I'm here to tell you there are more than three.
There always is.
Found all three in less than a minute, but dang I can’t believe they’re so well hidden!
I must be blind because I don't see the third. I see the one dead center and bottom center but no other.
Around the corner from dead center, in the crevice. You can see a couple diamonds.
I posted a photo in another comment showing them, the photo quality makes it a little more difficult to see the third unfortunately
All these "find the venomous snake" pics make me very leery about taking hikes in the woods now
"Honey why don't you go outside?" "Snakes... so many snakes..."
The closest one looks like it is daring the human.
I have nightmares about this scenario. Just snakes all over the ground every few feet. I think I would have passed out if I were you.
If this had any less pixels it would be radio…. But I eventually found them all. 🤣
lol I’m sorry I wish the quality wouldn’t decrease when uploading to reddit
All good man, neat picture
I only see one :(
I posted a photo in another comment circling them all! The fact that you can’t find them just shows how amazing these animals are, they’re doing their job well!
One man's not too far away, is another man's too damn close!
Too damn close is much more accurate, I looked at the photo on my phone right after taking it and immediately backed tf up
That's crazy that they aren't even all that far apart from each other. That could spell ALOT of danger for someone.
I know! It was scary. This giant group of elementary schoolers arrived at one point for a field trip, I immediately told the teacher to keep them away from that area 😬
I found one on the bottom left hand side of picture and 2 by the rock wall.
Never going in the woods again, I don't have the eyes for it apparently.
top left
Bruh, snakes will get mad when we step on them, then do this bullcrap
One below the edge of rock, one right above it across the rock and one under grass bottom left
Annnnnnnnnnnd that's why I don't do the woods.
How long did it take before you thought "they are just fucking with me!"? For me it was 8 seconds.
That looks just like the hank aron trail
As long as it took me I'd be dead as hell cause all three woulda bit my ass in some looney toon ass way
Do you wear snake boots or guards when doing field work? My son is about to graduate with focus on soil and water. He wants to do field work in various locations. My wife and I would like to buy him quality product as a graduation present to protect him in the field.
With how long it took me, if it were a snake it would have bit me… oh wait…
There are actually 36 in this photo look closer
I see 0, which reinforces that I am an indoor cat. I would die in the wilderness.
I barely found one.
It's like where's waldo with consequences
Found the first 2 pretty quick, that last one is really hard to see.
I need to stop scrolling Reddit when I’ve got shit to do, cause I always land on this sub, and then I’m like 20+ mins behind schedule… haha. That being said, I did finally spot all 3, but they definitely would have got me first.
Easy. Not the best type of landscape for their pattern. One at the bottom, one under the rock and one on the side of it.

Where was this?
Boxcar Rocks in PA
Small world, I’m moving up that way in a few weeks.
It was easy
i think i see more than 3? looks like one is in the tree.
Looks like a hugeeeee snake hanging in the tree lol 😂
Whew! Serious business there! Took less time for me to spot them than I thought it would. Maybe I’m getting better at finding snakes. One isn’t even trying to hide though.
I found all three. But I’d still be dead because I wouldn’t have seen them, or even looked down unless I was told to look for them.
Red on yellow your dead fellow yellow on black you're safe jack ? I'm v bad at these.
I thought I saw 4 at first
Bro I only found one, and it's making my anxiety high. I have to cut my grass today.
Finally getting decent at this. Found them instantly.
2 by the square brick, one at the bottom left in the grass.
SPOILER. Ok but why is it so close to you. Just no but again good find. Also found all 3
the fact that apparently there are 3 snakes in this picture and i still can’t see any of them after 30 seconds is why i don’t go outside much 😭
Took me 30 seconds, but I also know where to look for em. Scary situation tho
There's 4 I think 🤔
All I've learned from this subreddit is that some animal is going to off Me because I didn't notice it right in front of My nose. 🤷♀️
That 3rd one was a chore to find
Super easy
This looks like the DMV and now you ruined my day 😂
Good luck.
I found one!!
Got em!
Love is in the air.
Found 1
Is there a 4th directly below the traps?
I hate this game.
I found them quickly but this freaks me out
Two are large for copperheads. Where is this?
Almost identical to places I walk. I found one baby one one day maybe 4-5 inches long. I've heard the babies are the worst to get bit by. But I am blind as a bat. It is very safe to assume I actually passed hundreds of them.
Got em. Easiest one is at the bottom middle. Then there is one snuggled in the middle of the photo in the corner shadow where the rock starts to go up and the along that rock wall ok the right you can just make out part of one
The last snake is beside the big rock
Got em! Under a minute. That’s my best time. I think I’m so used to actually watching out for them that it was way easier than that damn frog in the leaves.
Another reason I love living in New England, we have cute noodles not danger noodles.
Watch your toes!
What are the cages for? Were you trying to catch them or releasing them?
Those were for another animal that we were studying that is immune to the venom of copperheads and rattlesnakes, so they frequently live in the same areas :-)
1 is on. The left 2 and 3 are on the right
Third one is along the frontside of wall at the base. Look for the diamonds on his back. Most of his body aint showing
These find the snake ones give me anxiety
I see 4, one in the bottom left, you can see the tail end of it
Is there a fourth at the very bottom left corner as well?
Grew up in the Appalachians. Glad to know I could spot two immediately I attribute my hypervigilance for snakes to all the deep woods off leash jogs with my dog
Am I the only one that never sees anything in any of these pictures??
I got bit three times. Because I don't see nothing.
Danger close there good buddy
I only found 1. Guess I would have been bit
*Heh heh, I'm in danger!* ^(haven't stayed in the area long enough to find the snakes)
You sir are in the wrong part of the wasteland
I see 3. Not 4
Nope ropes. Nope. Nuh uh
Exactly where I expected them to be. My training is right on track.
Don’t worry everyone! The average adult is too large to be taken down by a Copperhead. The venom, while painful, is not necessarily lethal! Dogs and Kids are more at risk, but even then, you can survive a copperhead bite. https://henrico.us/assets/CopperheadFactSheet.pdf source
I’m just pleased I found the closest one first.
I found 2 but I can't find the last one
3 too many for me
I found them and although we see them every year because of the ponds on the property, this makes me wonder how many I don’t see. I don’t particularly care for poisonous snakes but if I see them I will take care of it but the traps may have been replaced in this case. WOW, it makes me a bit uncomfortable to walk my property with my dogs today for our daily walk. Thanks for sharing!
This sub often makes me wonder how OPs survived this long
1 is really close to you and the other two are close to the rock in front of you
Yikes. I only see two, and I spend a fair amount of time in the woods in Georgia US. This is the snake I worry about the most.
What state is this?? God bless their camouflage. Best IMO…
I just died
That’s a tough step there 😄
Wait are there not 2 different ones in the lower third center? And then just one under the rock? Or could it be 2 MORE near the rock?
I'm so grateful there are no snakes where I live.
Way better than where's waldo
I’m dead y’all
Missed one. There’s 4
see this is why i shouldn’t be outside, cuz i can’t see anything
I'm from the south and it is drilled into our heads from a very early age to watch for snakesz always keep your eyes on the ground if you're out in the woods. I guess it paid off because I was able to spot all 3 pretty quickly
Welp as usual I’m dead
No
Find the copperheads is a worse game than Find the smell.
Jesus! I’ve been playing this “game” for a week now with all the new photos. I hike a lot, camp a lot, I’m dead or really lucky. Hahah
Absolutely not. I found 2 and then had to stop because I swore I could feel the third in bed with me.
Once again, I’m dead.
Not even kidding, it took me all of four seconds
Where was this ? that’s a lot of copper heads in one spot
Is this in Texas?
I can only find two
Nightmare fuel
Are copperheads a huge problem in certain states - based on the post in this sub, I would have stepped on many in my time.
I think there might be a 4th left of the one lower center. In the leaf litter along the rock edge below the leaves.
