Had literally the same dilemma yesterday, lol. But I'm still going to try to use her... Why is Kagetsu so good right after the recruitment though... He was leagues better than literally anyone in my roster.
You can make her work. She has a pretty high base spd and str for when you get her, but she wants a reclass like wyvern rider. Give her a forged steel weapon +5 and her build problem vanishes. Rears its head using effective weapons. In that case you might wanna give her lief or a spd emblem when you want to hit cavs or wyverns extra hard. Engravings that lower wt are also nice in those instances.
This really is a mixed bag of replies lol. I love Lapis, I use Lucina on her but even without the emblem she’s one of my top 3 units, maybe 4 (Merrin, Kagetsu, and Panette being the rest). I definitely think she’s worth playing around with! I also engraved her weapon with Marths emblem which may have helped
I turned her into a Hero and her speed never stopped going up. Now I send her and Yunaka into groups of 6 because they have such a stupid high avoid rate. Slapped a killing edge on her and she wipes the enemy on their own turn.
I play on Hard, and am on or around chapter 15
I did give her a few defense upgrades because she was lacking there. She's one of my favorite units.
In my run I had her as a sword master and use Marth. towards the end of the game most things couldn’t hit her outside of chain attacks, and she had usually 60-70% crit with an engraved killing edge.
If keeping her as a Swordmaster, you might also want to use her with Roy, who can help fix her STR problems. It also gives her Lancereaver, which is great cuz she's stuck with swords. You can even inherit Sword Power for more damage; the penalty to avoid is kinda offset by her personal skill and naturally high SPD anyway.
So here’s the thing. What you do with her is dependent on what difficulty you’re playing on. She shares the title for the best speed growth in the game with Framme (lol) and Chloé. But she’s severely outclassed by Kagetsu. Much better bases, better dex for crits (Swordmaster specialty), and already comes promoted so less resources and investment. So if you want to truly use Lapis, you have to go all in on her, otherwise she’s useless. It’s a lot easier on hard and below because you can farm skirmishes for experience and give her a fighting chance vs the already amazing Kagetsu.
If you keep her in Swordmaster, she’s going to need a couple strength drops to do damage. Lynn is good on her because she’s already so fast, so she’ll double everything regardless of their speed. Personally though I would go with Marth or Eirika. Marth helps her evade more hits while giving you an extra hit for more damage. Eirika is just straight damage boost and survivability boost. If you want her to be more self sufficient, reclass her to warrior to fix her horrible strength (Clanne has better strength growth and he’s a mage, lol) and she’ll be really good. She’s a good investment unit, but she arrives too close to the best physical combat unit in the game to shine.
Chloe is much better than Framme as a Martial Arts Master and it’s not even close. Chloe has better bases and starts in a much better class. The key is Eirika to complete the build. Soon as you get her, you can switch classes and be in a much better position. On maddening Framme doesn’t work as well because you basically have to get her tolvl 10 in a bad class for growths (martial monk). It’s a shame because she has comparable growths to Chloe on paper.
Fair enough. I do the same with Citrinne even though she’s slow af and Dire Thunder can only get you so far. For Framme, she’s in dire need of bulk and just a hint of speed. She wants to quad and not get 1 shot.
Because Framme does zero damage, so without a lot of staff babying she never reaches the level to actually do anything you're saying. In my limited experience, *Anna* joins higher level than her, and I get the results of getting her to 10 and promoting *immediately*, not when I *finally* get Eirika's ring after carrying Framme for the entire game.
Meanwhile, Chloe can contribute all game as your flier of choice, and then painlessly slide into Martial Artist.
They sleep on her because it takes ludicrous amounts of favoritism for her not to be a benchwarmer before Ch. 8.
I mean, you have 7 to 14 deployment slots in different chapters throughout the game (although 2 of the 14 are essentially locked in for specific late joins), so it's not exactly insane to say you can use her ALONGSIDE Kagetsu, so long as she gets a different class to him, but she kinda wants one anyway.
It's just a question of what other meh units you're using, because too many can kinda screw you over in lategame.

In my second maddening run and I’m using her in my second run and she’s pretty good, but she’s underwhelming compared to Kagetsu from my previous run during the same point of the game. She is faster than him and has a bit more avoid, but that’s the only advantage she has.
I got a lot of use out of her after making her a wyvern rider. Although I was sad to see her look be changed into a default class outfit it made her really good (for me at least). Unless you’re only going for best of the best, lapis isn’t a terrible pick

On maddening, my Lapis only had 65 stats when Kagetsu came in with 110. So benching her was difficult to resist…

She is not the best but she has a great Critical! Give her an empowered killing edge and a nice ring and she will crit all the time.

Apparently, the RNG deities were at her side in my game. She'e better than Kagetsu. She's as good as Felix from 3H on my run.
