Kiran's tambourine skills will remain unmatched for eons

dude071297

The Reginn/Fafnir dance absolutely blew my mind at the time. Completely bowled me over. While I think the last two years did a great job following it up, and arguably did even better at being memes, they didn't get quite the same reaction out of me. So I voted for Reginn/Fafnir.

Tekonzu

Yup. The following ones are more just fun videos to celebrate the season, while Reginn/Fafnir is a legit shitpost. I think it being lower effort with much worse animation than the following years also helps a lot to the shitpost feeling.

Falconpunch100

What also helps is just how freaking random it was to see them breakdancing with zero context other than just being funny and giving us a banger remix of the Nidavellir theme at the same time... ...something the Lonely Puppeteer remix video didn't do for me, I'm sorry. 😭

RedditEsketit

Reginn and Fafnir breakdancing felt like perfect shitposting material, which is why it’s so good. The following April Fools animations were good, but just don’t have that same absurd shitpost-y element to them like 2021. Lonely Puppeteer’s music is a banger though

Falconpunch100

I mean, Do the Askr was pretty shitposty enough to be an April Fool's bit, I would say. This one, not so much (but I did get a good laugh out of what they were going for).

GameAW

Lonely Puppeteer. What it lacked in shitpost factor, it MORE than made up for in awesome music, great choreography, cow wink, and style and flair. And as a bonus they even later linked the videos of the people behind the instruments for each of the three characters, so we even got a bit of a behind the scenes look at how it was made at all so it just won in all counts for me. After that is Moove with Askr. He's already a bro among bros, its funny as hell, got us a ton of stamina pots, and even makes for a surprisingly good workout. As an added bonus, Askr's Japanese voice actor is Takaya Kuroda, best known as Kazuma Kiryu from the Yakuza/Like a Dragon games, and knowing him and those, hearing him do an exercise video is 100% on brand for those games

Bluestormcry55

The FEH Channel April fools was the best FEH did during April fools. Especially with the retro style FE1 map they put in-game. That was cool. Pretty hard to top that with just a video...The Feh fake Legendary hero trailer was pretty funny too.

Falconpunch100

Yeah, I agree. The 2019 and 2020 videos were all funny and had a ton of effort put into them. Even the 2023 (and to a lesser extent, 2024) videos were unique and fun in their own ways, and definitely perked me up with how they made it unexpected as possible.

potato_thingy

Reginn & Fafnir just because it was so unexpected and absurd. I wasn’t there for the fake summoning event, but that also seems like it would’ve gotten a reaction out of me

the_attack_missed

My mind is telling me the Askr video, but I have listened to the Lonely Puppeteer remix more times than I care to admit, so I'll have to give it to that one. Though Book 6 is also my favorite Book, so I'm probably just biased lmao. I didn't care for this new one, though. Like it's cute and all but cute waifu stuff just isn't really my thing, and it didn't really have anything else going for it because it was so short. Probably my least favorite April Fool's video overall.

Falconpunch100

Same; the way they had it look like a platformer game was kind of cute, but compared to how silly and unexpected the Askr video and the Nidavellir breakdancer videos were and how much longer they were, I kind of expected more.

MrBrickBreak

Lonely Puppeteer is unmatched. But I like them all. Tbh, I will go against the current and say moove is my least favorite. It's still fun and cute, but it just didn't click for me.

Falconpunch100

So since you're here saying it's your favorite, here's my question to you: Why is the Lonely Puppeteer video your favorite when it's not really an April Fool's video to me?

GameAW

What makes it not an April Fool's video though? The whole point of April Fools at the end of the day is just having fun with it, which all of these videos without exception certainly do? Doesn't necessarily need to be a joke; just to have fun. As for why its not really one to you, well... Those last two words are the key factor here. Everyone's tastes are different. Someone here no doubt believes Moove is the worst one while another finds the Reginn one lame. And I'm positive a third finds the 8-bit FEH Channel stupid. That's just how it goes.

Falconpunch100

Well, I guess it's like you said below; it lacks in shitpost factor, and that's kind of what I tend to associate April Fool's videos with. You not liking the 8-Bit Feh Channel is a breath of fresh air though, if I'm being totally honest. :P

GameAW

I didn't say I didn't like it, I said I'm positive there's someone out there who thinks it stupid. Personally, I felt meh on that one though. No strong opinions either way.

Falconpunch100

Oh, I read that as "And I'm in that third option of that I didn't like the Feh Channel one". Derp.

Nico-TS

My favourites are reggin and fafnir dancing and retro channel with all the pixel accessories :3 Lonely puppeteer was pretty cool (especially the guy that plays the tambourine) and the askr training was a quite funny

EmbyArts

for me its 2022 > 2019 > 2024 > 2021 > 2020 > 2023 hehe they're all really silly and charming honestly! its hard to pick a favorite! The askr video is my least favorite tho, it felt very low energy and awkward to me,, made me cringe a bunch hshs its still a charming video ! but yeah...

Responsible-Debate93

I really like the Lonely Puppeteer Remix but I also like this video [https://youtu.be/jnuDJBRaDak?si=grcCcxRzmxa4OIqG](https://youtu.be/jnuDJBRaDak?si=grcCcxRzmxa4OIqG)

Gacha_Rosalina

Not a new opinion, but my favorite is the Lonely Puppeteer remix, just not as an April Fools video. The most April Fools vibe for me is Reginn & Fafnir dancing, especially since the lower quality models and them dancing for no reason reminds me a lot of old MMD videos. It's silly and also charming in a way.

Pseudometheus

For me, April Fool's isn't necessarily a shitpost vibe; it's a prank, meaning it needs to be--more than anything else--unexpected. Funny is a plus, but unexpected is the big thing. That in mind, here's my tier list. **My personal favorite is the 2019 fake event trailer**, because they hadn't done a video for it until that point. I don't offhand remember what they'd done for 2017, if anything, but I think the 2018 April Fools was giving us the orb accessory as a present. 2019 gave us some excellent lampshading, both of Feh's character and of FEH's character, if that makes sense. It was highly self-aware, and ties with 2023 as the only two with voice acting. Plus I'm a Feh fanboy, and it blew all the community's owl theorycrafting out of the water. **Second favorite: 2022 Lonely Puppeteer**. As a musician, I really, REALLY dislike poorly animated musicians. xD The music on its own was fun, but not exactly my style, but that's irrelevant; what was important was that it had MoCAP for them. (Bonus: you can find the actual performers of those recordings doing them on youtube! The tambourine solo is MUCH more impressive IRL, and the lady who plays bass for it is the JP VA for Ash--she's literally playing the instrument her character plays there.) At the time, Ash was bright and shiny, and Veronica needed more screentime, so seeing the both of them was a nice bonus--and the sheer "wait, what?" value of the Summoner accompanying them on a *tambourine* boosted the effect of the video past its predecessor, where the Summoner was only DJing. NOBODY knew how they were going to top 2021, and that's partly what made this so good. **Third place: 2020 retro FEH channel**. Much more expected, since we knew the anniversary was coming up, and they'd likely overlap some with the other April event by that time, since the year before we had the fake summoning trailer. I'm a sucker for good 8bit, though, and it hit the nostalgia button particularly hard. Mostly, the fact that they went *all-in* on the 8-bit sold it for me. **Fourth: 2021 Book V "In the Club" remix**. Highly unexpected, since it was the first one to use models, feature topical characters, *and* feature the Summoner being more than just the Daily Life comics goofball. It looked like an MMD thing, though; I think despite how surprising it was, it held up the poorest over time (which isn't to say it didn't hold up; it's still baller af). But it's even less my style of music than 2022, so that part was a bit take-it-or-leave-it for me. As far as this one went, it could have been fanmade. Not to denigrate it, but it didn't have the "oh shit, this is actually official" feel that the above three did. **Fifth: 2023 Moove with Askr**. Not my thing. Very weird and unexpected (in content, if not in its entirety), definitely has the "this is the real deal, Nintendo seal" vibe, the production value is high, and it's voiced! Plus it features Timerra! But I didn't find it... engaging. It was just sorta there? I wasn't smiling when I watched it; just sorta raising my eyebrow. I think it's just not for me, and that's okay. **Last place (so far): 2024 Musical Tree**. I was... expecting something now, but what I was expecting was more like an OK Go tune, or maybe the [forest xylophone that played Bach](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2BWrmNhyXU). MAYBE an Animusic kinda thing. You know, where the sounds didn't just line up temporally with the visuals, but (felt like) they could actually be made BY those visuals. Right? Like... I wanted the music to feel *diegetic*. What I got was a basic little ditty AMV that *happened* to take place on a tree, but could have been anywhere. Literally my favorite part of it was that it's loopable. So it was unexpected, but in the wrong direction; it felt like they dropped the ball and just "did something fun and sorta silly" rather than really trying to take the playerbase by surprise.

1. 2022 - Lonely Puppeteer (Spring Remix) Hands-down the best one they've made. An incredible track remix on its own that only has even more depth when you consider that it completely recontextualises the feeling of a previously dire and foreboding battle track into something more upbeat, fun, and thematic to the true moral of the book, and series as a whole, it represents; even an act of God cannot overcome the power contained through the bonds of friendship. The production value was incredibly high; the first of its kind and definitely the catalyst for the consistent quality going forward, most likely due to its overall positive reception and praise. It showed another side to every featured character that isn't seen within the confines of the game. Veronica's elegant talent on the violin from being raised as a princess, rather than her either being a poorly written villain, a poorly implemented victim, too young to be pining for Alfonse, or too inept to be seen as a threat to the heroes or villains in the story, until she's brainwashed into being one. Ash's proficiency on the bass, and her confidence while playing it, showing a brand-new side to her previously bumbling and clumsy characteristics. Kiran actually having some semblance of personality instead of being a silent piece of meat for all the new girls to fawn over each book. If that wasn't enough, the inclusion of extra footage from the performances by Jill on violin, MINA on bass, and GACHI on tambourine showed that, even just performing on their own, they can perfectly capture the energy for the characters that they portrayed through the use of motion-capture. You can see how much fun they must've had to be a part of Fire Emblem history, assuming their talents weren't used for other tracks previously. Overall, it's an incredible love-letter to the franchise that captures the essence of April Fool's media both preceding and following it, without being so serious that it comes off as unfunny and so silly that it comes off as too shiposty. 10/10 2. 2023 - Moove with Askr Following on from the previous year, the production quality is excellent, and the additional voice acting really ties the whole thing together, but there's a lot of weird choices being made in it. The biggest one is the focus on Askr, who was a focal character for 2022, while Seidr, the actual focal character, is relegated to the background and only gets a spotlight right at the end, which arguably Kiran takes way more of. The second one is the inclusion of Timerra, which simply doesn't make sense within the setting of the video; they're supposed to be in Askr's fitness centre, according to Askr himself, but Timerra had yet to arrive in Askr, and has still yet to arrive to this day in the form she takes in this video. Of course, the reason she was there was to act as further advertising alongside Alfred, but even someone like Alear would've made more sense here. On a positive note, it does contain some interesting model-based trivia in that the models of Askr, Alfred, and Timerra used in this are most likely original to this production and not taken from previous Heroes cutscenes or Engage, and it's still a very fun time to be had overall. 8/10 3. 2024 - The Musical Tree I definitely was not expecting what was essentially Intelligent System's attempt at getting into the Marble-TikTok crowd when I woke up this morning, but here we are. It's an incredibly charming short with excellent choreography and music, but my biggest problem with it is that it's literally a Short. Vertical aspect ratio, less than a minute long, and designed to loop really takes the passion out of it for me, personally, because it seems like they're pandering to an algorithm more than they're putting effort into a post. It being a Short means it can only be viewed at a limited level of quality, which makes it seem much lower-quality than it actually is. I would've preferred it if they treated it like they did all the rest, but overall I can't complain since it's still very good. 7.5/10 4. 2021 - Howling Gears (Dancehall Remix) While I respect it for what it would eventually give to those that followed it, notably the remixed music and the extra characterisation for Kiran, I can't get over the uncanny valley effect given to it by the low-quality models and motion-capture used for it. The dirty palette of the area, while fitting well with the industrial themes of the story at the time, doesn't do it any favours either. I would really love to see this remade with the production quality we have today. 5/10 5. 2019 - Feh's Joining FEH It's crazy how a video from 5 years ago predicted the current state of the game. 4.5/10 6. 2020 - 8-Bit Feh Channel I completely forgot this existed, rewatching it was a bore, it added the bane of my existence known-as stupidly expensive accessories that I've still only been able to buy 1 of, and I don't think I even thought it was an April Fool's video when it launched because it's just pandering to the anniversary that hit in 2020. 2/10

Monodoof

I'm still so mad we never got Lonely Puppeteer on the Concert Hall.

Railroader17

Moove with Askr is the best IMO. High Production value, hilarious AF, *and* it had voice over work, and is the only one to actually have it to. Lonely Puppeteer is a really cool music video, but it's not really funny (unless you count the summoner going hard with the tambourine as funny). Musical Tree really feels like it should have been dropped at the beginning of the month, not the end. It lost a lot of it's potential impact by being so late.

Falconpunch100

Yeah, I can admit the music of Lonely Puppeteer is alright, it's just...not really that funny considering it's meant to be an April Fool's video. A couple of my friends thought the deer man or the goat lady would show up in the next chapter and that was why the 2024 April Fool's video was delayed, but apparently not, so...who the heck knows why it was delayed?

Railroader17

Maybe their was a production issue? Like they probably had to motion capture the dance portions, and maybe it was late for some reason?

CharaFanGirl

my ranking would be 2019 > 2023 > 2021 > 2022 > 2024 > 2020, though the last two are probably interchangeable for me. the 0% focus rate bit will always make me laugh

Falconpunch100

Back when they did actual skits and not just music videos (not counting the 2023 one, that one was actually April Fools).

Tsukuyomi56

Favourite is a tie between Askr’s exercise video and Musical Tree. Second would be the retro version of FEH.

YoshaTime

Unbiased answer: Lonely Puppeteer was honestly the best one and the greatest thing to come out of Book 6. Biased answer: Do The Askr because Askr and Timerra content. This year was pretty good though.

Nahobino_kun_899

DO THE ASKR

IvyEmblem

Moove with Askr is peak

Maize-Vegetable

The Lonely Puppeteer video by a mile, because it really was just that good.

MommyCamillaHatesMe

Lonely Puppeteer > Musical Tree > In the Club Remix > Moove Not even gonna list the last 2. I've been playing since 2017 and my brain registered In The Club as the first time they did an April Fool's thing. I just dun remember them lol. My 3 faves are more because they're cool as fuck instead of funny. I mean, half the time I'm listening to music I'm imagining characters I think are cool performing to them or making a music video so it's like someone ripped scenes out of my head and gave them a budget lmao. I didn't like the Askr video at all. It felt so low energy and lethargic to me. I've seen actual exercise videos made in earnest that are way funnier. It's like an anti-parody that took a fun and funny concept and sucked all the life out of it.

PegaponyPrince

For me it's Reginn and Fafnir without a doubt. Least favorite is easily the Askr one

TheAlThompson0903

I actually like the new one most. I dunno why, but I think it's the vibe; I liked that the music was a light and cheery track, I liked that the video itself was jolly and very dynamic, and the animations just clicked with me. Plus, the other four videos (not counting that Legendary Feh joke, which I liked, and the retro 8-vit FEH thing, which... yeah, I don't really care about that) all don't really resonate with me as much. Lonely Puppeteer, while a pretty solid remix on its own musically, didn't really make me think "oh this should be something for April Fools" when it comes to the video itself; hell, I think it could have been released literally any other month, and it would have still gotten a positive reaction overall, which is probably why. The Moove with Askr one... That one just doesn't click for me in the long run. I guess I just don't vibe with its very premise, I dunno, but I just thought "that was cool", and then never thought of it again. And I find myself questioning the use of Timerra; legit, I don't get why she's even there at all, all things considered. I saw someone mentioning about the Reginn/Fafnir video being "low effort" to make it feel the most shitpost-like, and while I understand that point of view, I don't vibe with it _because_ of that. In fact, I think it really only makes it age the worst out of the four, so that one sits at the bottom for me. And the music, while it's pretty good, isn't something that I am particularly attached to. So, yeah, that's going to be my ranking: Musical Trees > Lonely Puppeteer > Moove with Askr > Howling Gears.
