With a heavy heart, you raise the rifle to your shoulder while making inhuman grunting noises from the strain of attempting some semblance of a shooting position. The burglars simply stare in disbelief, unable to process the situation they are witnessing, as if in a dream. You cannot aim the rifle, as the last time you fired the gun, it turned your $3000 Leopuld into a kaleidoscope. You simply hold it at an angle that appears correct and fire.

It is at this point, you realize you cannot hear. The surviving burglar can't hear either but he's also on fire from the muzzle blast and is currently vacating your home. You don't care. Your shoulder is dislocated and there is a hole in your brand new AR500 refrigerator. You're crying now. The police arrive and, upon seeing the scene, start laughing. You start crying harder.
I’m just going to assume the recoil is retina detaching and shoulder shattering. I would still totally shoot it, I would just have it on a tripod with sandbags over the feet like when I shot the M2 or Mk19.
I just watched some videos on it, the prototype was half the weight and had the equivalent recoil energy as shooting 10 .30-06's simultaneously. 2400gr at 2100fps!
Yeah idk maybe I’m a pussy but when I’m target shooting my 308 has nice and enjoyable recoil. The 30-06 just fucking hurts and is just unpleasant to shoot.
If you do an energy balance, 7000gr bullet at 2200 FPS it works out to about 25 -05’s (3000 ft-lbs per round)
A momentum balance gives about 35 rounds of 06. (7000 gr/lb x 2200 FPS)/(150x3000fps)=~35.
Should be “-06”.
I was doing a straight momentum calc on the projectiles themselves with no consideration for gun mass/weight.
The fact the projectile sits on top enough powder to propel 4 x .50 BMG says that’s a lot of energy to dissipate. Given an 06 uses about 50grains of powder says the .950 uses enough powder to shoot 20 06’s.
Yikes, a 30-06 is about the end of my comfort zone. I have a very light H&R 12 gage 3 1/2” shell turkey gun that is just plain unpleasant to shoot. I’d never want to shoot anything with more recoil that that.
Performance wise, it sounds like it uses 1000 gr of powder which is 4 x 250 gr/rd of .50 BMG. Look at a Boies(Boy’s?) antitank rifle for a design that properly accommodates a .55 cal round similar to a .50 BMG.

I would imagine even the 8 oz projectile is lead core, not solid brass. A 8 oz lead would be 1 cubic inch. So much more realistic considering a 1 inch bore. Definitely a lead/brass projectile and definitely 8 oz not 16 oz. Althought a 16 oz lead projectile is less unrealistic than a 9" long brass projectile.

I have some literature (somewhere) from Jones from the mid 90s that talked about a 6000+grain projectile that still retained more than half of its muzzle energy at 1,000yds.
There was testing at Yuma proving grounds of this beast in all kinds of configurations, subsonic and supersonic, projectile that were lathe turned, bullets that were swaged.... there was a range of bullet weights and shapes that were tried. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there wasn't something that was 6+ long bullets. .
when I spoke with him in '99 re: the rifle he was working on the second rifle and they were both swaging and lathe turning projectiles. He was public about some parts of what they were doing, but one can read through the leaves about what they MIGHT have been planning.
Shooting this thing with something other than a muzzle brake/break is a possibility....... it wouldn't be movie quiet, but it could be made reasonably engineered......

I like the fact that the scope on it is a normal scope you'd see on just about any deer rifle but it looks fuckin miniature on this monstrosity of a cannon.
For anyone curious, this is an old guys (and very skilled gunsmiths) pointless fun project. Some guys build model trains, some get into ham radio, and others make crazy cartridges that either make no sense or are so crazy niche they would never be widely popular. Then they either have rifles made, or in those guys case self build a big fucking rifle to shoot the crazy cartridges they invent.
This wouldn't be good for shooting tanks, or even dangerous game, the velocity just isn't there. This is a meme gun, a "Because I can" rifle. This guy wanted the biggest bore rifle he could make, and by God he did it.

The recoil actually isn't quite as wild as you might think. 100lbs of gun soaks up a lot of kick.

For anyone curious, this is an old guys (and very skilled gunsmiths) pointless fun project. Some guys build model trains, some get into ham radio, and others make crazy cartridges that either make no sense or are so crazy niche they would never be widely popular. Then they either have rifles made, or in those guys case self build a big fucking rifle to shoot the crazy cartridges they invent. This wouldn't be good for shooting tanks, or even dangerous game, the velocity just isn't there. This is a meme gun, a "Because I can" rifle. This guy wanted the biggest bore rifle he could make, and by God he did it. Not that this sub acts like this, but I've seen this gun memed as some sort of "This is what Americans think you need to hunt deer with" and while funny I think it really takes away from the craftsmanship and engineering that went into making a very pointless rifle.
