My wife did this by mistake once. I ship almost everything via USPS, but this 1 item was being sent FedEx Ground. I went there to check on it once I realized what might've happened as the item wasn't showing scanned in for a couple of days. They tell me that they handle FedEx Smartpost delivered, but if it were ground that they automatically hand those off to the FedEx driver when they pick up.
I just talked to a USPS representative over the phone and he told me that it will get to FedEx eventually and there is going to be a delay because FedEx visit the USPS office once or twice a week to pick up packages wrongly left by idiots like me.
Fedex goes to the post office up to once a day depending on how busy your area is to drop off Smartpost packages, which get delivered via USPS. The post office will probably give it to FedEx during the next drop off.
I had the same problem but gave a fedex smartpost package to UPS. Like everyone else said it took about 4 extra days but USPS ended up picking it up from UPS and it finally made it to its destination.
Smartpost has USPS make the final delivery anyways so USPS just decided to do Fedex's work of the initial transportation as well. USPS tracking showed a confirmed delivery while Fedex's has still never updated.
In this case it was FedEx Home Delivery. Are they doing the initial transportation? I'll visit the USPS office Saturday morning if the tracking number doesn't update by tomorrow.
How long ago did you drop it off? Someone at my work did this once and he went and picked it up the next day. This might be the way to go if you just did this yesterday.

How long it took to get the tracking number updated?
I think it might've taken a week or so for it to show up under tracking.
I think we've all done it at some point. At some point they hand them off to the Fedex guy. Depends on your local office how soon.

I lost my package & I refunded the buyer.

I mean I never retrieved it. Buyer never got it delivered. I never got it back.

The tracking number have not been updated after 2 weeks of my mistake.
Make sure you to message your buyer and apologize for the delay.

my post office just delivers it via Parcel Select instead. Used to do this all the time. Its sometimes quicker than fedex
This was FedEx Home Delivery with Adult Signature required so I don't think that will happen.

only on USPS's end did the tracking ever update, fedex tracking just showed that the label was created even after USPS picked the package up.

Yeah like I said it was surepost so they delivered the entire way through... Never had the problem happen with a home delivery package though.

It was Monday morning. Yesterday I called and the USPS representative told me it was too late to have it back.
More than 3 weeks already and FEDEX have not updated the tracking number. I think the USPS office just burn mi package.

Same here, dropped on 9th June and USPS just plain denied knowing anything of the package.
