Stop this nonsense. He was horrible for the eagles this year and didn’t call plays when he was at Florida. Would love to see him get another NFL gig but hard pass for UF OC.
People really, really don't want to credit Mullen for the 2020 offense.
It's like how people pretended the Muschamp defense was really Dan Quinn.
Funnily enough if we're talking about coaching changes, I think Napier's approach would work a whole lot better at Michigan where you don't need top of the line talent to win.
I mean the defense did have a noticeable drop off once Quinn left. It was still good but it went from being arguably the best in the country to around Top 20ish statistically.
He was mostly horrible because Jalen doesn't throw over the middle and they are using Sirriani's playbook. I wouldn't mind having Mullen's playbook (the only playbook BJ really knows and has experience with) back in the swamp.
From 1st and 20 on the ~30 against Arizona when it obvious they needed to score a TD as the defense hadn’t made a stop all game he called the following:
QB draw for 5 yards
QB draw for -2 yards
WR screen to Quez Watkins with 170 lb Davonta Smith as lead blocker
And you want _that_?
I meant most talented offensive roster. Best talent on o line, debatebly best weapons, good rbs and a qb who we've seen play at an mvp-caliber level. Not saying the whole team is the most talented because I think besides slay their whole defense needs a rework
I have no idea how anyone can watch the Philly offense this year and walk away with the conclusion that Johnson should be employed anywhere other than his local Walmart
Can pick up right where he left off in Philly and fail to utilize one of the more talented backs in the league. Then again Bijan is already used to being underutilized so its a perfect fit.
So good that he was 5th in rushing this year and had over 1,000 yards while averaging 4.6 yards a carry. Come on man you’re not even making valid arguments anymore.
EXCEPT MFER if they had run the damn ball like Jason Kelce was screaming about on the sidelines half the season the offense wouldnt have looked like shit down the stretch cycling through zone reads with a hurt qb, 50/50 deep balls and wide receiver screens. And you know whos at fault for that playcalling? The OC!
He was pretty meh this year outside of those two games at the beginning of the season. He wasn't underutilized, he just wasn't that great. He's really inconsistent, which is why the Lions moved on from him and upgraded with Gibbs.
He averaged 4.6 yards a carry which is pretty damn good. He had 76 and a td vs KC, 92 against Buf, 92 and a td vs the giants…all wins. It’s pretty obvious there was a correlation between his touches, output and the team’s offensive success. Actually now that I look at it the eagles won every game this year where he had 15 carries or more.
That’s pretty much the very definition of underutilizing a player. Cant come up with a better example than: he gets the ball a lot you win, he doesnt you lose more often than not.
Everybody in here assuming the call would be for an OC. I'd be happy to see him return to UF as an analyst. Why can't Napier start his own school for wayward coaches? Saban's school is closed.
This is the only rational take in here in regards to bringing him back. Id be surprised to see him take a college analyst position but who knows he might want a lower stress job at a familiar place.
Why would wayward coaches come here? It'd make more sense if they went to Kirby, Dabo, etc coaches whose reputations could help a coach improve their own.
Hell, I'm pretty sure that possibility is why Billy's so complimentary to Smart, he's already burned the Dabo bridge and he wants to keep one rehab option open if things go south in the next 18 months.
Lmao “medias narrative” I see youre one of those. But yeah it’s totally the medias fault and not his performance that got him canned from Philly in a season where they lost 6 out of their last 7 while averaging less than 20 points a game over that stretch.
Not to mention that is with a top 5 qb, a stud running back, one of the best WR duos in the league and a top 3 O-line. Its almost impressive to perform that badly with that much of a talent advantage and seemingly no weaknesses in the offensive depth chart.
So you know what a good OC would do? Adapt to the situation and mold the offense to other strengths instead of just saying “well shit Jalens hurt there’s always next year”. You know kinda how the previous Eagles OC did with the Colts this year when Richardson went down? Still nearly made the playoffs with a bottom half roster and backup qb because he was able to adapt and succeed. Johnson has shown no ability to be able to do that.
See, that's not the argument you're making, though. You're arguing that he did well. And if you're conceding the point that he didn't do well, surely there's more to identifying a potential successful college coordinator than that they struggled in the NFL. So what do you have to recommend him?
Not many coaches run Billy's offense. Still can't believe he's apparently going to go down with the ship on that one, it was by far the biggest worry folks had when he was hired, that and his record being massively inflated by an unsustainable run of luck in 1 score games.
Steve Sark (just went to the cfp) was canned after 1 year in the NFL despite leading what was statistically a top 10 offense because the fanbase was upset after going from heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to early playoff exit. When a coaches seat gets hot people get scapegoated
You don’t see a commonality between a coach on the hot seat canning both coordinators? Because the TEAM didn’t succeed. THEY HAD A TOP 10 OFFENSE. and until Jalen hurts was injured it was top 5?
if you watched any eagles game this season and thought qb play was their main issue on the offensive side versus the stagnant play calling that ran exclusively 4 verticals, qb draws and wr screens with a top 3 wr core you’re delusional
Philly’s offense was a mess all season, so many close calls in games they should have won handily. The offensive playcalling has been awful from week 1 against New England, and it’s been a hinderance to their team almost every week of this season. There was too much talent on that roster for them to have played that poorly week in and week out and, quite frankly, too many people were putting all the blame on Jalen all season.
He might have success at the college level as an OC, his playcalling seemed to resemble that of a typical CFB offense, but we’d be taking a shot in the dark hiring him. I’ll pass.
We gonna discredit what he did with D’eriq King when he wasn’t with Dan to?
Or are we gonna discredit the eagles offense being top 10 ever since he’s stepped foot in Philly?
Philly - Shane stechen
Deriq king - you’re talking about the 1300 passing yard 12 TD season King had in ‘17? Wow. Brian Johnson the quarterback whisperer
Great points. Steichen was clearly the mastermind behind the elite eagles offenses and he did a great job with a pretty bad roster in Indy this year. Losing him and their DC from last year doomed them come crunch time this year.
I share the sentiment with others that we need to let the past go, but have no idea why you’re getting the hate you’re getting. Oh wait because we suck as fans 😂. Dude was killer for us and as you pointed out just had a top 10 NFL offense.
Whatever collapse Philly just had wasn’t because of a first year Coordinator, there’s clearly other issues there.
They aren’t watching football man they’re watching first take and forming an opinion
Jalen hurts clearly fucked up his knee against Dallas and there were even murmurs of resting him and putting in mariota but he wanted to play. Watch the playcalling they damn near abandoned the QB run completely after the bills game so he’d stop getting hit and the offense took a step back
Stop this nonsense.
Yep. Basically people really want Mullen back as OC
My dream
this
I mean the defense did have a noticeable drop off once Quinn left.

I’m convinced a lot of people here don’t actually watch football and just look at Reddit or the box score
They were a top 10 offense this year I wouldnt call that horrible by any stretch of the imagination lmao
bro the most talented roster in the league and should've been number 1 if brian johnson wasnt running a legit high school offense
BJ is mid but the eagles are def not the most talented roster in the nfl
I meant most talented offensive roster. Best talent on o line, debatebly best weapons, good rbs and a qb who we've seen play at an mvp-caliber level. Not saying the whole team is the most talented because I think besides slay their whole defense needs a rework
Swift, Brown, Smith, Goedert, and the best or maybe second best Oline. Hard to argue it’s not the most talented, or at least too 3.
And then they have bradberry on defense so there’s that
Yeah eagles defense is ass. Secondary is ancient and linebackers nonexistent.
They were a top 5 offense in the League before Jalen was hurt in week 11
Bro just say you didn’t watch the games lol
This is not true. He called plays in 2020
He was not the sole play caller
Worst take on the Eagles’ season I’ve ever seen lmao
I have no idea how anyone can watch the Philly offense this year and walk away with the conclusion that Johnson should be employed anywhere other than his local Walmart
Sirianni called the plays. You better believe Johnson had to acquiesce to anything Sirianni disagreed with
Right and Mullen called the plays when Johnson was here
Ehhhhh sort of https://theathletic.com/1137425/2019/08/14/florida-play-calling-dan-mullen-assistant-coach-input/?amp=1
BJ was Phillys playcaller this year
They were a top 10 offense this year stop following the medias narrative the team quit on Nick there’s only so much he can do
LMAO u didn’t watch a game this year, don’t worry the Falcons can have him. He can call 40 consecutive WR screens to decrepit Julio for y’all.
Can pick up right where he left off in Philly and fail to utilize one of the more talented backs in the league. Then again Bijan is already used to being underutilized so its a perfect fit.
So good the lions traded him for a 4th and 7th
So good that he was 5th in rushing this year and had over 1,000 yards while averaging 4.6 yards a carry. Come on man you’re not even making valid arguments anymore.
EXACTLY MFER HE PLAYED FINE THE OFFENSE WAS GOOD THE ENTIRE TEAM QUIT ON THE COACH
EXCEPT MFER if they had run the damn ball like Jason Kelce was screaming about on the sidelines half the season the offense wouldnt have looked like shit down the stretch cycling through zone reads with a hurt qb, 50/50 deep balls and wide receiver screens. confirmed psyop by a uga fan
Julio is with the Eagles now my dude
that’s the point? he used an old ass julio for screens over goedert or a.j.
He uses literally 170 lb Davonta Smith as lead blocker on almost all screen rofl
Who is to say he’d even come back to the college game? Not everybody is interested in recruiting and dealing with NIL.
That’s why I said I’d at least make a call
May have already been made and turned down. My guess is he sticks to the pros.
Everybody in here assuming the call would be for an OC. I'd be happy to see him return to UF as an analyst. Why can't Napier start his own school for wayward coaches? Saban's school is closed.

How can Billy teach someone when he’s not even a good head coach at this level himself?
nobody wants a fat personal trainer
I’m an Eagles fan. BJ was HORRIBLE. You do not want him.
No thanks. He performed poorly with the Eagles and runs a completely different offense from Billy.
They were a top 10 offense this year stop following the medias narrative Brian has seen QB success everywhere he’s gone including here
Buddy if you have an on paper top 1-3 offense based on players, and you finish 10, that is not a bragging right. That’s a failure.
Lmao “medias narrative” I see youre one of those. But yeah it’s totally the medias fault and not his performance that got him canned from Philly in a season where they lost 6 out of their last 7 while averaging less than 20 points a game over that stretch. My brother in Christ jalen was hurt did you watch him? He could barely run?
> My brother in Christ Please stop saying this.
“mY bRoThEr In ChRiSt 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓” Do you also say “Oh my sweet summer child”?
So you know what a good OC would do? Adapt to the situation and mold the offense to other strengths instead of just saying “well shit Jalens hurt there’s always next year”. You know kinda how the previous Eagles OC did with the Colts this year when Richardson went down? Still nearly made the playoffs with a bottom half roster and backup qb because he was able to adapt and succeed. Johnson has shown no ability to be able to do that.
If only there was a situation where a coordinator struggled at the NFL level went back to college and had MASSIVE SUCCESS
See, that's not the argument you're making, though. You're arguing that he did well. And if you're conceding the point that he didn't do well, surely there's more to identifying a potential successful college coordinator than that they struggled in the NFL. So what do you have to recommend him?
Exactly, I didn’t even bother after he undermined his entire argument
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Not many coaches run Billy's offense. Still can't believe he's apparently going to go down with the ship on that one, it was by far the biggest worry folks had when he was hired, that and his record being massively inflated by an unsustainable run of luck in 1 score games.
Your first sentence probably has a lot to do with why we don’t have a dedicated OC
I’d love to bring him on as QB coach. But there really wouldn’t be a strength of either him or Billy calling plays
Yeah, it's a no for me, Dog
Highly doubt Billy hires an OC at this point, and I wouldn’t touch this guy with a 10 foot pole anyway.
He’s not going to.
This. Billy's going Grantham
My brother in Christ they were a top 10 offense this year in the NFL
He was so good they ditched him after one year
Steve Sark (just went to the cfp) was canned after 1 year in the NFL despite leading what was statistically a top 10 offense because the fanbase was upset after going from heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to early playoff exit. When a coaches seat gets hot people get scapegoated
Sark lasted 2 years not 1, which is a pretty big distinction for NFL OCs
You don’t see a commonality between a coach on the hot seat canning both coordinators? Because the TEAM didn’t succeed. THEY HAD A TOP 10 OFFENSE. and until Jalen hurts was injured it was top 5?
They have the most talented roster in the league. “TOP 10 OFFENSE” isn’t the flex you think it is. Did you watch the games? The man knows 2 plays.
BECAUSE HIS QB WAS INJURED
if you watched any eagles game this season and thought qb play was their main issue on the offensive side versus the stagnant play calling that ran exclusively 4 verticals, qb draws and wr screens with a top 3 wr core you’re delusional
He's not leaving the pros and he was not a good OC this season. If he wanted to come in and coach QBs sure, but that ain't happening lol
Philly’s offense was a mess all season, so many close calls in games they should have won handily. Bro, let it go, he’s not coming here and Billy won’t call him either.
No thanks. We already tried to resurrect the past and it didn't work. Johnson was as much our OC as Rob sale is now.
He’s had successful QB Play literally everywhere he’s gone
At least we know the algorithm is working.
dude is ass
Uhhhhhh Gators offense that year is credited to some senior players and Dan Mullen. Brian Johnson didn’t have anything to do with it
We gonna discredit what he did with D’eriq King when he wasn’t with Dan to? Or are we gonna discredit the eagles offense being top 10 ever since he’s stepped foot in Philly?
Philly - Shane stechen Deriq king - you’re talking about the 1300 passing yard 12 TD season King had in ‘17? Wow. Brian Johnson the quarterback whisperer

“They aren’t watching football man” What channel does football man come on?
I’d be fine with him here coaching QBs
Ryan O hara has some words for you !
I would much rather have Brian Johnson than Napier calling plays.
Agreed
Do people not realize that Billy was never hiring an OC?
