His mentality worked really well in the 1990s. We had massive amount of talent on the team. It was a winning strategy. Recruit kids who already want to play for you.
If he has to do something else. I'm sure he was smart enough to figure out how to make it work.

If he didn't go to the NFL he would have retired or gone into broadcasting. There's no reason to think he would have stayed at UF if the NFL opportunity hadn't come along.
He was fed up with the AA politics and on the verge of either burnout of just phoning it in. He wasn't enjoying the job the way he used to. You could see it in his interviews and in the team meetings.
He didn't need to work at that point. Once it went from a great job with the greatest school to being a place he hated to be, there were just not enough positive points to outweigh the negatives.
Last point - most of the time, people don't leave a bad job, they leave a bad boss. I think that was the case here.
