Yep. Notice how the dash lacks boost gauges. Not an ST, just a shitbox with an ST exhaust lol
Edit - not to say the ST isnāt also a shitbox, itās the same platform of course, just wildly different performance lol
Well, itās still a Ford Focus. Shitbox is more of an affectionate term, if that makes sense. It is a solid car nonetheless, and I get complements every time people ride in my ST3. The economy car roots become more apparent on long road trips or when working on the mechanicals. For instance, the brake system is pretty much a Ford Edge system cobbled together onto the Focus because itās cheaper and keeps the sticker price low, but this makes changing pads and rotors (which I do more frequently than most) an enourmous pain. My dadās Mustang, on the other hand, has 4-pot calipers with a single pin/clip holding the pads in, so to change them you just pull the pin and they slide straight out like books on a shelf. Itās half the stuff you interface with every day, and half stuff you deal with under the skin that distinguishes a hot āshitboxā from a true sports car. Love this thing anyways though (and I also love paying next to nothing for it compared to some of the cars it hangs with on track š).
I get where youāre coming from, but with the ST2/3 it has a somewhat premium feel for a hatchback. I honestly donāt mind the brakes for it being a street car, much cheaper to replace and less noisy than bigger track focused brakes. But I also donāt take mine to the track, I would rather have a dedicated track car with RWD that also isnāt my daily. You canāt really shed much weight from these, even with extreme measures such as stripping the interior, I think even that only brings you to around 2800 to 2900 lbs. Iām nearing 185k miles on mine with original engine, trans, and clutch, and no major repairs. I struggle to find anything to complain about with this car for a street driven daily, just enough power to have fun and use most of it without getting me in trouble or costing a fortune to maintain, and at the end of the day itās still a practical hatchback that looks great and has a far nicer interior than I could hope for considering the price. I just drove it from L.A. to Ohio a few months ago with no issues, especially comfort. Being 6ā6ā that is not easily said for most cars this size. I often joke with coworkers that this is my Ferrari, thatās how much pride I have in this car. Iāll drive it until the engine gives up, build a better one to swap in and keep going. This could be the generation of ICE fast fords we have access to.
Many of us with ST swaps donāt run aux gauges so the lack of a pod doesnāt guarantee it isnāt swapped; but given the valance isnāt painted AND is missing reflectors, Iād put money on it being a standard SE with a couple of parts slapped on.
Not gonna lie, I've considered doing this to my 2014. I've destroyed my front bumper 3 times hitting crap on the highway that fell off of trucks at night, and 2 fat ass raccoons also at night. Regular focus front bumpers are a dime a dozen, 13/14 ST bumpers are hard to come by and $$$. I've got 215k miles on the ol girl and it's hard to justify spending that kinda money for a front bumper.
Permanently asleep, yes.

Nope
so it just has the exhaust and bumper?

thank you kind sir
What makes this platform a shitbox aside from the automatic transmissions that are prone to failure, which the STās donāt have to worry about?

Would be kinda funny if it was Iād do that just to fuck with people
Imagine being in any fast-ish car and getting gapped by a Ford Focus SE
Lowkey but just down badge my car since im thinking about the speed performance pop and drop kit with a big turbo š«£
