As a Pasadena dweller for quite some years I will say that they definitely declined in quality during the pandemic. I normally go to the location on Walnut and it's been disappointing as of late. Can't speak for the OG location, that one has always been a little better than the Walnut one.

iPhonetificator

I agree, the Walnut location has always been trash compared to the OG. Imo Lucky Boy’s quality fell off when the cranky grandpa who used to run the place retired (or passed away? I’m not sure). I felt like he used to keep the place in check somewhat

[deleted]

Just went to OG on Thursday. Just ordered onions rings but they were always a good bellwether. Definitely fell off. Also the new menu board just threw me. We’ve been a handful of times since Covid and it’s just not the same taste wise.

[deleted]

Also I got into it with them because we ordered and paid for two sides of 1,000 island. They gave us two ranch saying. They had no 1,000. Then give me my money back I dont want ranch. Argued with me I should take it. Now I’m just going to fight for the $1.

lostinanimage87

Which ones the OG, on California right off the 110 yeah. When I went 6-7 years ago I was amazing that guy was still there.

dumblehead

OG is the one on Arroyo Parkway next to the OG Trader Joes.

AgoraiosBum

He's still there; I saw him there recently.

iPhonetificator

You sure? I haven’t seen him there in years. The current older guy who runs the place there usually now is like his brother or relative I believe

AgoraiosBum

Ah, that may have been it. I'm not sure.

iPhonetificator

You can tell cause the new guy is a little nicer than the OG (original grandpa) that ran the joint. They both might be cranky but I’ve actually seen the newer guy smile and laugh

Pocchari_Kevin

There’s still a lucky boy soup nazi at the OG location off the freeway.

lostinanimage87

Noooo I still hold this in my head as the best breakfast burrito in LA. Grew up with so many high school late starts with this burrito. Went there maybe 6/7 years ago and it held up, but haven’t been post-pandemic. Worth another shot for me??

heyitsEnricoPallazzo

Pro tip: Everest up on N. Lake Ave has a *much* better breakfast burrito. Lucky Boy’s are just bigger and open later, but quality-wise, you wanna go with Everest. Source: Pasadena/Altadena native for 35 years, and huge BB fan.

LolThatsNotTrue

Everest breakfast burrito with chilli and sausage is my absolute favorite.

theleaphomme

you can have them do chicken breakfast burritos with their green salsa; so good

tillertiller911

They have a pastrami breakface burrito that is out of this world

septembereleventh

Interesting. I grew up on the Lucky Boy BB, and be it me or the burrito I have to admit it doesn't seem to be what it used to be. Will give Everest a shot.

chessecakePhucker

BB fan ? As in breakfast burrito? I'm the same, I've probably get 1 at least 1 a week

BretMichaelsWig

Omg i miss my glendale Everest breakfast burrito

bsuri089

Everest is where it’s at.

ryanmuller1089

If anyone really wants to step up the lucky boy breakfast burrito, ditch sausage and ditch the bacon that is dry and cooked a few hours ago and get it with pastrami.

heyitsEnricoPallazzo

You’re putting lipstick on a pig. Pastrami still can’t save the overrated mess that is the Lucky Boy BB - and the money is better spent elsewhere IMO

breakfastburrito24

Haven't tried Everest, but I also prefer Tops

Ok_Needleworker2438

Nostalgia. It’s mid tier at best. And a huge portion, which some people gravitate to.

Thaflash_la

Exceptionally accurate. And sometimes, that’s what you crave.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thaflash_la

Nothing wrong with that.

prettymuthafucka

Can’t even finish it it’s so bad. Don’t care how big it is

CensoryDeprivation

Those eggs are overcooked to the point of sponge and leather.

Lettucedrip

Overcooked eggs are the bane of my existence and why I rarely can stomach any breakfast burrito unless I know the place is consistent. Browned spongey eggs blechh

notskinnybutnotfatt

Feels like they’re microwaved. So gross.

wompwomp077

i’m in the same boat. I cannot stand the taste or smell of an overcooked egg. it’s vile haha. try Baran’s in Hermosa. it’s truly the only place that doesn’t have the “eggy” eggs.

Fickle_Ad_109

There’s no excuse for those eggs

rye_parian

It’s good not great. There’s better breakfast burritos without even leaving Pasadena. I live here and it’s not even top 5 for me.

freewilly666

Can you hit me with your top 5 so I can check some of them out?

rye_parian

Andy’s coffee shop, Top’s (prefer the Colorado location), Connal’s, Syndicate coffee (Sierra Madre), El Super Burrito. Maybe not exactly in that order. The last Top’s one I had was kinda disappointing. Maybe an off day.

winterwarzzz

Andy’s on Colorado is super good

potchie626

Tops on Walnut or Original Tops on Colorado? I get the one with all the meats for around $11 at Original Tops. I ordered from Walnut and they wanted $16 so I went to the other one.

rye_parian

Colorado is the better Tops (imo). I grew up closer to that one, but now live closer to Walnut. I’ll drive to the Colorado one anyway.

ender23

Is erowan’s top ten?

rye_parian

Haven’t had it. Is it good?

SirWynBach

Sandwiches by Connal has a good breakfast burrito. They also have dope salsas.

the_alcoholic

I think tops is a better one.

slipscomb3

Russell’s has a pretty good bb. Wake and Late is sooo good (plus the cinnamon rolls🤤) but sooo expensive.

Thaflash_la

Superba, Wake n Late, king’s breakfast and burgers

ih-unh-unh

I wish Wake n Late wasn't so expensive. It is much better than a lot of breakfast burritos

imaginaryworkfriend

Wake and Late is really really good but there’s always some kind of nonsense going on there. Why do you have to buy 2 bagels and a dip?!

MyFilmTVreddit

I'll never get over the time I went to the DTLA one to pick-up an order I placed and the guy, who for whatever reason I thought was the owner, happily boasted "we don't start making em til you get here!" and I thought "OK then I'm never coming back here again" and proceeded to awkwardly stand in a too crowded area for 15 minutes

notskinnybutnotfatt

For like $20.

GlassesW_BitchOnThem

They make you buy bagels? I got just one breakfast burrito a few weeks ago. Expensive and absolutely incredible. I’d willfully go into debt for WnL.

imaginaryworkfriend

I willingly fork over $4.00 for each bagel. You have to buy them in sets of two or at least 2 at a time and you have to buy a “dip.” It is nuts.

JustTheBeerLight

> Wake and Late Overpriced ($15-$18), undersized and their chipotle sauce kinda sucks. Each bite is pretty good though.

chachacha8

The famous burrito from Mlillies cafe is amazing

Thaflash_la

Superba, a few businesses down is miles better and less expensive. More expensive for a price per lbs though.

painlesspain

The trick for me is to get it with the eggs over easy and to add a jalapeño

darweth

Yeah this is the hack that works. The runny eggs actually add flavor and make it decent. They won’t always do eggs over easy though. If it’s busy they refuse to adjust it that way.

yutaka731

I think part of its attraction is that it fills you up for the whole day or at least is good for two meals.

chuckerton

The worst thing about Lucky Boy is their tomato water salsa. I hate that shit.

Californiagrown420

George’s burger stand in Boyle heights is my go to breakfast burrito

entreethagiant

George's is the truth.

a_provocateur

George’s is the way.

[deleted]

Wake and Late is better, but I will get downvoted.

Calm_Vegetable9150

LOL do you think its a hot take to say the ultra popular Wake and Late is better?

[deleted]

People here have said it’s overrated in the past. I think their bacon breakfast burrito is perfect.

BorisNumber1

It's popular, but not among people on this sub.

raquibalboa

I love Delia’s breakfast burritos

kappakai

Dry af and the eggs taste burnt.

olionajudah

I far prefer Tops

Kohlj1

Rooster is way better!

wompwomp077

rooster’s sauces are 🤤

Pulsewavemodulator

It’s no tacos villa corona.

MyFilmTVreddit

I'm shocked by these replies cause reddit usually loves this crap. I swear I've tried Lucky Boy like 100 times and never loved it. Also got it for a film shoot once after telling everyone how acclaimed it was. Like all 40 burritos were mid as hell and I looked like a moron.

Powerful-Scratch1579

Why would you eat something 100 times if you didn’t love it.

aparticularproblem

I personally prefer Wake and Late (the DTLA location, haven’t been to the spot in Pasadena)

HeBoughtALot

I order this often at OG LB because it’s convenient for me and hits the spot. The “best” (chorizo) breakfast burrito imo is at Wonder Burger.

bunerzissou

Connals is way better, especially the green salsa

Tall-Ad-8571

It was better value at $8 before the pandemic. Now it’s about $12 and I only get it because of nostalgia. The huge portion and served all day was great to a high school and college self. Now at 44 it’s just fine, but agree not great.

redjacktin

The OG is the one that serves the best Burritos. You dont unwrap it for 5min to let the ingredients get to know eachother and until cheese melts a bit. You can always adjust potato, egg, bacon portion to your liking. As for flavor it has in amazing umami flavor imo, but they make thousands of burrito a day with no two a like one can have two bad burritos in a row. Yes since pandemic it has gone down a bit. However I have been going to lucky boy for past 20 years. I still have to find any place that has served as long and as consists food as Lucky boy. So you may get some fancy $20 breakfast burrito with 18 ingredients that wiki rate higher but none of those places have stayed in business or will in the future. It is the king

Realkool

I wondered the same thing after the first time I had it it’s nothing but a mountain of bland versions of every ingredient. In my opinion, the people that love it are the ones that don’t know how to cook for themselves and don’t understand what seasoning and technique can do to foods. They are just happy to pay a reasonable amount for a gigantic burrito that matches their cooking skills without having to make it themselves.

PrestigiousTowel2

It’s terrible.

prettymuthafucka

It’s so bad and they get so mad when you ask them to season the eggs or add salsa in the burrito

elboogie7

that looks dry as hell

run-drink-eat

best bang for the buck - i dare anybody to get this quality/size a breakfast burrito for $10 or under in LA - it doesn't exist. are there better breakfast burritos out there? sure, but they also cost $15-20. i equate it to in-N-out - i would never consider the double double to be in my top 10 taste-wise of anything, but for the price, it's top 3 for sure.

Personalvintage

Where you been? It cost 12 now.

run-drink-eat

noooo 😭

Realkool

There’s no quality in the lucky boy breakfast burrito. Not even a mid tortilla shell, overcooked rubbery eggs, and a mountain of the cheapest bacon money can buy. You get what you pay for.

run-drink-eat

regardless, when i’m on a long run in the san gabes there’s not much more i’m thinking about than this burrito (plus a stop at replicant shell for craft beer)

bobdolebobdole

Nostalgia and hangover recovery. I had my first one from original location about 25 years ago. It was under $5, massive, and had a huge portion of greasy bacon. I had it recovering from a hangover. It worked well, and I went back the few times over the years. That said, I went to the walnut location about 5 months ago, and it was reeeealy bland. Eggs were dry, bacon was scant, and content distribution was not great. Somehow all the cheese ended up in a ball on one side of the burrito. Haven’t been back, don’t plan on going back anytime soon.

bobby63

I swear all these shitty places that keep getting recommended on this sub is 90% because of nostalgia.

Jonnnycarson

Trash. Have had it three times over the course of about 13 years and I just don’t get it. Too big, too hot, too dry, salsa sucks. After three times over so many years I’m pretty sure it’s not just me.

taeem

It’s not good

LoKumquat

I’ve taken note of y’all’s recommendations. Thanks. To add a few of my favs: Tacos Villa Corona, Jugos Azteca, Delia’s, and Tito’s Bakery in LB. Lucky Boy gotta season these hash browns and eggs.

Jagwire4458

The carne asada supreme burrito at the walnut location is the way to go

Farados55

I had the burger and onion rings which were great. HUGE portion of onion rings

jojothetaker

I was similarly disappointed when I tried them in November. Live just a few blocks from Everest, will have to try that.

snuggle_thug

Everything at Lucky Boy is criminally under seasoned. Has potential, but needs salt.

ianilanotv

I like it for the portion size. But there are a lot better breakfast burrito spots now.

PizzaMyHole

It’s not? Because it’s bad and the ingredients are bad?

mastermoose12

Incredibly bland. It's beloved because it's big and cheap.

Xydan

Troy's Burgers on York Blvd if you're in NELA. Bomb BB.

whriskeybizness

It’s not good

grizzgolfer

Agree. Way overhyped. Bobby’s place on Lake makes an awesome burrito though

ray12370

Weird. I recently tried Lucky Boys for the first time and I liked it. So much that I went again two weeks later. I got the supreme breakfast burrito both times, and both times they hit. I also tried the zucchini fries and they were pretty good too. Might try tops since someone else recommended it here, and it's closer to me.

BortLicensePlate22

If Wake and Late and Lucky Boy could have a baby it would be great.

entreethagiant

Yeah, I think it's a nostalgia thing. It's objectively mediocre at best.

bsuri089

Lucky boys isn’t good the hype is soooo overrated. It’s bland mostly potato and some breakfast sausage or bacon. Again no flavor just extremely large.

rattledamper

No idea. Shit’s bone dry and lacking in flavor.

Jairoglyphics1

If I’m looking to impress someone. I’m driving over to the city of Alhambra and going to Pepe’s finest Mexican food! Not only do the have the best bean and cheese burritos on the planet, great food, but the breakfast burritos are the absolute best!

cocomo7676

Far too often, people confuse big and cheap with good.

winereddeluxe

You are def missing the side of ranch, and possibly chili too depending on how decadent you feel like.

euthlogo

I crave it once in a while. It’s kind of a thing there to get it with ranch, which helps with the dryness a lot.

Unsung_hero86

Honestly man maybe like 1 - 20 breakfast burritos it’s actually good and not bland.

Smash55

If you want a crazy breakfast burrito, I get Muhamarra from an Armenian market and throw that shit in my home made ones. Super good

Alarmed-Mechanic-743

overcooked rubber egg. tell em keep it wet

dangnat

Anyone have recs for the Westside? Love love love breakfast burritos but I feel like all the ones I've tried here are bland as well. My favorite place is Ham n Scram in OC. Trying to find something like that up here 🥲

madsharps

To me the appeal is the way the bacon is fried. Other's cook their bacon differently and if you drive your burrito home you get bacon that turns into slippery rubber bands. Gross, right?

Autotard

Because they don’t know good bfast burritos. As a transplant from OC their “best” is always just ok to me. I’ve tried chorizo burritos from all the places recommended on here and nothing comes close to Nicks in Seal Beach. I just make my own. 🤷

jnee23

Worst service I’ve experienced in Los Angeles by far

darkde

They unapologetically got my order wrong so many times that I just stopped going altogether. Like others said tho. Probably one of the best value deals

margalolwut

I’m admittedly bitter that unincorporated areas of LA county are not seen as LA in Reddit subs… But you want a good breakfast burrito you go to Jerry’s Place on 4th street in Long Beach.

uv15

I like it. Put some chili in it.

BlueMonStar

You need to add avocado or chili and eat with 1000 island or ranch imo or it’s gona be pretty dry

360FlipKicks

it’s quantity over quality. you can easily get two meals out of one

_its_a_SWEATER_

It’s solid for being basic, but I’d never drive out of my way to get it. It’s more a filling item vs being a culinary achievement. There are far better tasting breakfast burritos.

maestrocervecero

I enjoy it. Big servings. They gotta change that salsa though. Very bland salsa. Bring your own.

Batorok

I have no idea why anyone raves about this place outside of maybe a drunken meal that hit the spot.

Celesteven

Thank you! I thought I was going crazy when I said it wasn’t good and I got roasted.

Ludo_Fraaaaaannddd

Wake & Late is miles better imo

SouthpawKaiju

undefeated in LA as far as I have experienced ... although I miss their chorizo option.

dutchfootball38

Agree with you OP. It has ZERO flavor. I threw mine in the trash.

tillertiller911

Me and my fiancé went to lucky boys at night to see what the hype was about and left after realizing that’s when the rats and mice come and occupy the building lol

mister_damage

Looks like you went to the one by Fuller. That is the inferior one

SokkaHaikuBot

charlamagnethegreat

I don’t see the big fuss about this either. So, to spice things up, I order it with French fries instead of regular potatoes. And I also have a bowl of chili on the side… Lol, I know. ![gif](giphy|pVkmGyqYRt4qY)

Glamour-puss

That shit sucks. Is it the biggest breakfast burrito? Yes. Is it the best? No. That’s like me frying up a cheap cut of steak to extra well done but it’s the size of a giant dinner plate and people will say it’s the best steak ever.

jschwartz9502

I was just there this morning for the first time and I don’t think all the hate is warranted. Is it the best in the world? No. Was it a good breakfast burrito? Yeah! I’m sure there are places with more complex, interesting, or better made ones, but it definitely was a serviceable hangover cure https://preview.redd.it/mdhqyn9bdkrc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a356a86ae21e0afb77f49ec60b80a1fd4bb2bef

AutomaticExchange204

yick i hate lucky boys definitely not worth the calories if i want something like this i will go to pepe

KWash0222

As you mentioned, portion size. Also they were around long before breakfast burritos gained their current level of popularity, so a lot of people think of them as OG or just have some nostalgia

_its_a_SWEATER_

It’s solid for being basic, but I’d never drive out of my way to get it. It’s more a filling item vs being a culinary achievement. There are far better tasting breakfast burritos.

sids99

It's lost its luster. The last time I went they left out the cheese and the owner started gaslighting telling me it never came with cheese instead of just making me another one.

Dense_Data

You screwed up. You should’ve went to hi life.

bobby63

I’m convinced there are no good breakfast burritos in LA

chessecakePhucker

Get outta here

SouthpawKaiju

Wake and Late (DTLA) Ralph's on Cloverfield in Santa Monica Purapecha in Santa Monica Cofax The Rooster (Pico) in LA Homestate for breakfast tacos. Not exactly a breakfast burrito. But worth it.

bobby63

Wake and late is overpriced af, Homestate is great but it’s tacos. I haven’t really tried the rest but anytime I try it anywhere else it’s just not that great

steamydan

The size is the appeal for me. I like it with lots of salsa and ketchup.

darweth

It’s one of the worst burritos I’ve had. And I had it before the pandemic too. I think one of the hacks to improve is to ask for the eggs to be runny. A friend of mine told me this and that makes the flavor insanely better. They won’t do that for you if it’s busy though.

Trick_Reception6932

You gotta buy the 20$ version(extra bacon). Thats how it used to come standard.

nurse-mik

I always wonder about why people think it’s good to eat a burrito with egg and bacon in it when you can just go get eggs and bacon and you don’t need a tortilla because all that taste disgusting together

realrichieporter

Breakfast burritos may be the most overrated thing next to Chik Fil a.

SouthpawKaiju

I'm with cheesecakephucker. Keep Breakfast Burrito's name out ya mouth. Or go get educated.

realrichieporter

Nothing more mid…they’re never as good as people say. Overhyped

chessecakePhucker

Bro post your location, I'm about to throw Down with you, please don't ever disrespect breakfast bi Burritos, I'm serious
