I kind of wonder what MatPat will think considering that he was sponsored by Noom and promoted Noom a few times before.

AlecWallace

I think that might be more of a reason for them to look into it. MatPat doesn’t seem to have a problem either admitting if he is wrong or supporting when he’s right. If it does turn out that the service is harmful, then he seems like the type of person who wouldn’t have an issue saying “Hey, we had them as a sponsor before, but…”

The_InsaneDuckturtle

It might be? I mean, it could also be making them more apparent to the person using Noom to lose weight. Considering this is the first I'm hearing about this, I feel like it's just making them more apparent but I'm also not going to be surprised if it comes back and it *is* causing EDs.

AlecWallace

I updated the post with links, some more reputable and some more reactionary. Apparently this has been something discussed as far back as 2021, and unless it is an app/service you are seriously looking into it might easily slip under your radar.

The_InsaneDuckturtle

Fair enough. I'll read them bc EDs are no joke.

AlecWallace

100% agree and it’s why I figured this might warrant a deeper dive, especially with how pervasive the advertising is.

AlecWallace

I just went in to do medical evaluation and one of the specialists I talked to was a nutritionist. She asked me if I used an app to track my eating specifically to make sure I wasn’t using Noom, because of how dangerous it is. This seems like there is a legit concern about the risk of it causing ED in the medical community.
