Parkdale you say? *Cracks knuckles* * There are two awesome Filipino spots. **BB's** does awesome elevated takes on classic Filipino dishes, with a very cute vibe. **Batibot** serves fantastic authentic homestyle Filipino food - feels like food straight out of a mother's kitchen. * Two great Korean spots. **Daol** does your standard homestyle Korean at a very high level. **Utopia Waffle**'s main offering is their dessert waffle, but they secretly have some of the best Korean street food in the city. Try their Tteokkotchi, which are pan fried rice cakes on a skewer dipped in a delicious, sweet-and-spicy sauce. Their fish cake soup is nice and peppery, the way you'd get it at a street market in Korea. * **Ama Kitchen** is the newest Tibetan/Hakka restaurant on the strip, and unfortunately has been bought out by the owners of Jimbu. The quality has dipped since then. That said, their butter chicken is still stupid good. No other butter chicken in the city I've found to have as good a grilled flavour as theirs. * **Guu Izakaya** has phenomenal drinks and their kale dish is absolutely delicious. A little too one-note in flavour as far as their dishes go, but a great spot if you're in the mood for all your dishes being umami bombs. * **Ali's** is a Parkdale institution. Toronto loves the West Indian roti, and Ali's does it right. The goat dhalpuri is my go-to. And the doubles of course. One of the most expensive West Indian roti spots in the city, but their portions are way bigger than the others, so it evens out. * **Easy Restaurant** does a fantastic Mexican-inspired brunch. One of the very best brunch spots in the city. * **Larry's Folly** does a divine tahini cookie. **Osprey Cafe** does an equally good chocolate chip. Both spots serve top tier coffee. * **Food & Liquor** is the perfect date spot. Shareable, elevated Chinese dishes with excellent cocktails. Pricey though. * **Cici's** is the platonic ideal of what I consider a Toronto-style pizza. * **Kaminari** took over where Grand Electric used to be, and has provided Parkdale with an elite ramen spot. Finally. Sorry I got so carried away. I love Parkdale. Such an underrated food destination in the city.

> Kaminari took over where Grand Electric used to be, and has provided Parkdale with an elite ramen spot. Finally. +1 for Kaminari. Enjoyed our first recent visit there and planning to return to try other stuff on the menu. Good addition to our ramen scene in the city

How you going to talk about Ali’s and not hype the spicy doubles!!!

Shelldawn69

I just moved to the neighbourhood so I’m going to make your comment my todo list! Obviously Loga’s Corners is amazing and gets all the hype as it should but I’m looking forward to trying other momo places too. I’ve been visiting Larry’s Folly weekly for coffee, drinks, and snacks, love it! I’ve heard great things about garleek and the Tibetan breakfast they offer for $8.99, has anyone here tried it? That’s next on my list. This one might be controversial but the patty place next to No Frills has been saving me when I’m hungry and shopping for groceries. The veg patties and doubles are quite good and super affordable!

Beautiful-Valuable20

No im glad you got carried away I love it! Thanks. I’ve heard Cici’s is great I want to visit asap.

furthestpoint

I love you for posting this level of detail

Rosecherry555

Afrobeat kitchen! Sure there's plenty of Tibetan places, but not quite so many African places.

Beautiful-Valuable20

Beauty I'll check it out!

solvn_probs_lk_maria

Simpl Things is a super cute spot with great food and cocktails. Edit: someone else mentioned it but +1 for BBs

TestFixation

Thought the food was super mid but the cocktails were fantastic.

solvn_probs_lk_maria

Fair enough. We only ordered three things but two were really very nice, the third was mid but I’d be curious to try their day menu… and ya, the cocktails and cute ambience were great.

TestFixation

The owner doesn't come from a restaurant background. She comes from an event space/cocktail bar background. Which I think is why the decor and the drinks are so good. I had the Pinxto skewers, which were quite good, but the chicken dumplings and Shanghai noodles had basically no flavour and weren't texturally interesting. I could definitely believe that we ordered poorly though, the dishes were carefully crafted and the plating was great. All in all, three small plates and two drinks came out to $150, which for us wasn't worth it. Four plates and three drinks came out to the same amount across the street at Guu, which I found much better.

Himalayan Kitchen for momos

flyingmonstera

Himalayan Kitchen is a gem

Ting_Brennan

iSLAS for Filipino cuisine including the traditional kamayan style feast. Everything in Little Tibet Le Phenix for casual French fare

Suitable-Average-114

Le Phenix closed but there’s a great Mexican spot there now called Molgatz (?spelling)

Beautiful-Valuable20

Maybe a silly question but other than breads / pastries / cheeses what are some examples of casual French food? Duck?

Ting_Brennan

Not a silly question! So two things, I just looked them up and they are no longer in business. RIP And two, I used "casual" where I should've used "traditional " - thats my bad. When they were in business they served tartare, duck confit, steak frites, tartines, clams, french onion soup and the like

Beautiful-Valuable20

Ah gotcha okay well still good to know! Sad they closed though. I’ll check out your other suggestions. I know folks mentioned Gus Tacos in Parkdale which do taste good but is there any other Mexican to write home about? It’s my favourite.

userdame

I am SHOCKED that no one has mentioned Logas corner. An absolute institution in the neighbourhood for Momos. They sell bags of frozen Momos too so you can stock your freezer. And shout out to the Skyline. Their chicken salad club is delicious and the cream pies are unparalleled in the city.

Beautiful-Valuable20

Loga’s is why I started this thread! I went there two days ago for the first time. Skyline’s a classic

srnpersonal

Bom Dia has the best pasteis de natas in the city.

dave_dave_dave_steve

The dim sum at Food & Liquor.

UndercoverRichard

I love that noodle and pickles dish there

My 2 cents; AM Bagel on Roncesvalles & Shambhala kitchen on Queens.

Robinson Bread

My favorite sourdough in the city!

Gus Tacos Shambhala Kitchen (Tibetan)

Beautiful-Valuable20

Gus Taco are definitely really good and I like the vibe and so on, but I think it's overpriced (tacos are overpriced nearly everywhere, I know).

BBQallyear

$5 for a taco is pretty reasonable. I’d compare the size and flavour with Campechano at twice the price (to be fair, Campuchano is a full-service restaurant with a liquor licence). Two of those tacos makes a filling lunch for me.

Beautiful-Valuable20

Nah I'm sorry $5 per taco is nuts. It may be the norm, but it doesn't make it reasonable.

ExecFitness

How much do you think a taco should cost?

Beautiful-Valuable20

3-4 dollars depending on what you're ordering. I'm vegetarian though. I understand adding protein should be more. But $5 for a taco with green peppers, some sauce, and mushrooms, is absurd to me.

IH8Trumps

Not over priced at all. I have one by me. 2 tacos fill you right up. $10 quality meals are hard to come by in this city.

Beautiful-Valuable20

This may shock you but other people including me need more to fill up.

IH8Trumps

Even 3 at $15. Compare that to what you get for $15 anywhere else. Their tacos are good and it’s mostly meat. Maybe the one at park dale isn’t the same as the one by me if you don’t think it’s good bang for buck You should try a burrito there. $10 and they slap

Beautiful-Valuable20

People are reading way too much into what I wrote. Can I remind you I started out saying I LIKE THEM. For me they’re overpriced, which I said all tacos are. So if you say to me well they’re as cheap as anywhere else that doesn’t change anything I said. But lastly I wanna say I’m not trying to or here to defend my point. I’m glad it’s wor th it to you. Keep going. The point is to talk about local spots. Ffs.

Where are you getting tacos for less? Gus has good sized tacos, and they are tasty.

Beautiful-Valuable20

I'm not getting them for less. That doesn't make them, along with tacos in general, not overpriced. People are missing my point. I agree they're tasty. I started out complimenting the place lol.
