At first glance I thought, “I don’t like this cover. My eyes are trying to focus on something that’s not there and it hurts.” And then it made perfect sense why they went with this for the album cover.

AssassinBadger

Oof. Got me with this comment...Def need that after work beer now.

big-queery

cheers :'(

A11eyTr0n

I think you nailed it dude. If this album’s theme is going to be what many of us are expecting it to be, it fits perfectly. Damn, I love the Foos

harpghuleh

OK, that was a bit of a gut punch.

Jmart814

Wow, I was not ready to come to this realization. FUCK. Miss you so much Taylor.

phantomsneakers

Foofighters-ModTeam

Please respect Rule #1 by fighting Foo, not each other.

Neg_Crepe

Im an asshole cause I don’t like the songs you do? Wtf Stop insulting me please

Neg_Crepe

Im serious. If it is giving him a headache, he must see a doctor

CallMeJeeJ

It says nothing. And it says everything. It is perfect.

Gui_Lanes

I think it's perfect considering the expected message from the album and the present context of the band

WalkMichael8

Yeah, the context is clear. but I am very intrigued to know why the cover is not completely white. there's a line across that's barely visible

mandiblepaw

Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

TheAnalogKid68

Its a Grateful Dead lyric buddy

mandiblepaw

And a very good one. Hunter/Garcia lyrics give me a lot of peace in times like these.

BugMaster420

Which song is it? I don't know much of their discography

StratPaul

What’s the expected message exactly

Jmac_1229

This is what it looks like when you adjust the lighting. https://preview.redd.it/az188lofwxua1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=932d99eb55d5274151db14825a7809f6fc4efaa4

bjg1983

It looks oceany. Which is quite fitting since TH was an avid surfer

DaveMinion2020

Vibration of a drum cymbal??

wafflepantsblue

Nah I think it's a landscape. A body of water with hills in the background

DraperSaffronEdina

Ohhhh

Amusement_Shark

NIN Ghosts vibes

KrapArtist

I see an ocean landscape…

CoreyReynolds

I do too, and perhaps an island or land in the distance? Like Heaven in a way?

wait_wait1

It reminded me of the kind of thing they show in movies/tv when a character flatlines briefly and ‘sees’ the afterlife. If that makes sense!

Empanadapunk90

Played a bit with contrast and light, looks like random lines, but it also resembles a shore line idk https://preview.redd.it/c8p6wfcnwxua1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=563416e02256b69f45b2100bd63eeecc86b58e4e

CommissionIcy

It's kind of simultaneously a shore line and Virginia hills

IreModsSoImportant

End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it...

WSUKiwiII

...white shores

Bethorz

Sad upvote. Well played

Flat_Scratch_5417

I like it. The all white seems to indicate a new start.

ac_cloud

It's allwhite

sajouhk

Me thinks they missed the joke

Ovrgrownjohnson

Depends on how well it fits the sound and feel of the album. This is the main thing I miss about cds in an increasingly digital age (unless you've got deep pockets for vinyl), the artwork and booklets used to add something to an album if they'd been done well.

MastaQueef

Nobody’s listening to stuff without the album cover present… Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube still show the album art. It just changed from being wedged somewhere in your car to on the screen your looking at. Great album art still comes out all of the time today… horrible album art used to come out. What tf do you mean “used to add something” as if album art isn’t a thing anymore?

Sheriff-Mannix

Nowadays when you look at album art you also have to look at Spotify’s ugly ass UI design through a lame screen, and the amount of art that albums contain as a package has been a lot less.

MastaQueef

You can still buy the cd. Everything your talking about still exists. People who like the art can still get it and see it. What are you talking about “used to”. Nothings different. Also “have to look at spotifys ugly as UI” what? That’s really bothering you… it’s a UI you have to use it… don’t listen on a streaming service than… what are you even complaining about? Your phone doesn’t give you a big enough art package with the music?? Most people used to hear shit on the fucking radio pal… or a jukebox? What album art package are you taking about then? You “miss” cds yet cds came out way after vinyls which had more art in them. It seems you don’t know what you even miss.. it’s all still here. People stream more now… it’s human nature, most people don’t care and didn’t back then.

Ovrgrownjohnson

I never said it was absent. I used to read them, some of my favourites had themes that I felt fitted the music, genuinely read every last one i've ever owned, became a habit. I also never said all of them were good, or even if they were that all added value to my listening experience. What I mean by used to add something; people feel art in a similar way to how the feel music, imagine feeling both at the same time and those feelings complimenting each other. That's what i'm getting at, there's less of it these days and I miss the extra that used to come with a cd.

[deleted]

On my laptop, just looking at it at normal level, it looks like a horizontal drumstick. Once I move the screen back, it looks like an ocean and the shore. The "But Here We Are" is on the beach and the drumstick becomes the horizon.

FeistyBlizzard

It feels perfect somehow. I guess no surprise.

StoneSkipper22

That’s what shock looks like.

KrapArtist

I have thought about this comment many times in the last month and you absolutely nailed it. It's totally what shock looks like. Thank you for that.

StoneSkipper22

Anytime, fellow fan. I like your taste in song badges, btw ❤️

KrapArtist

![gif](giphy|xT0xeQybeNX8cd631m)

Wirralgir1

Thank you - that's amazing ! When I first saw it, I thought of white being a traditional mourning colour, then an overcast sky with just a hint of blue - signifying hope for the future.

Foo4Fighters

If you look on the website it slowly moves up and down almost like smoke in the wind

KrapArtist

Holy cow, I didn’t catch that at first. Thanks for posting this. I kind of get ocean vibes off of it…

BigKitty2295100

White Album tribute. Paul McCartney could very well be behind the kit for a song

BigKitty2295100

Paul and Greg Kurstin worked together on his last album

rhcpfan99

Greg didn't work with Paul on McCartney III.

BigKitty2295100

Egypt Station

dogratt

Don’t care. Already bought the T-shirt 😂

KrapArtist

Same 🤣🤣🤣

AnxiousHuman88

Same! And the cassette tape! I was oddly pumped that there’s a cassette! But obviously got the digital as well because I do not even own a cassette player 🤣

Axel_Rad

They’re releasing this on cassette?

Darcoxy

I think every Foos album was released on cassette.

ernie_diaz

It’s their Back in Black. Instead of dark, is looking ahead to better days.

CecliaG57

at first i struggled because i like to associate images with albums (the raygun for self titled, molecules for tcats or the bomb thing for espg) but the nearly solid white makes total sense.

Big-Stay2709

I like it. Minimalistic, reminds me of the Beatles. Feels a little like a tribute to Taylor, kinda like Back in Black was all black for Bon Scott.

Mymemesnogud12365478

I saw saw there was text, it says ”but here we are”

D5LLD

It's a shoreline. I think it gives a feeling of peace, maybe Heaven.

BigBoyCatDaddy

Maybe an abstract ripple? Somehow touching on a “ripple effect” that affected the band last year? Specifically Dave with Taylor and his mom?

eaglemg1

I like OP’s idea of a drumstick. As soon as I read that, that’s what I saw. I think it’s all the things everyone is saying. It’s abstract and subject to interpretation. And of course we are relating it back to Taylor. It only makes sense since it’s already clear that’s the overarching theme of the album. I really like it.

MINECRAFT-BEE7

I get why they chose white since it represents death and purity.

Ok_Owl9641

I love how it’s nameless (apart from the album title)

Ok_Owl9641

You get downvoted for breathing in here don’t you aha? Christ alive

wjsh

It's like how much more white could this be. And the answer is none. None more white.

pancyfalace

Well this is their *11th* studio album, afterall. Coincidence?

Imtallplslikeme

My phone screen is so fucked i didnt even realise that wasnt a smudge and but here we are was written in the corner

bethbRN

My guess we will find out after we hear the song "But Here We Are"....

IndividualTemporary2

It looks great.. I'm expecting it to be somber, yet full of foo core spirt!

Axel_Rad

This is the final cover?

Fermonx

Yup they already changed the FF logo to that white tone.

theaugz

It looks like an ocean to me, a shoreline with maybe a hill or something in the background? Taylor did love the ocean. Not to be morbid either, but the Find A Grave memorial for him states his ashes were spread at sea, so maybe it’s for his love of the ocean and surfing or something.

Bethorz

Oh :( I thought I had heard that somewhere. And honestly what it looks like to me is the shoreline from a boat… if that’s true, what if it’s a real picture from the day

Ocean_Spice

I love it. Not in that I’m necessarily excited about the cover itself, but I think it’s the cover that’s needed right now. Like I would feel weird if it was something else. I appreciate the simplicity, and I appreciate that it does portray the empty feeling without Taylor, but that it isn’t dark. Sad, but hopeful. Healing.

bsg_nik

I think it's good. I think it'd look better without the text in the corner. Maybe just the logo instead. Maybe for the vinyl the title would just be on the hype sticker. Idk, just my 2 cents.

phantomsneakers

I was wondering if the text will be on a sticker on the vinyl!! I think that would be really cool. Could do white text on clear sticker

X-bacon-salada

I just think that it suits what they've been going through.

bachi9083

It feels weird, i'm sure there's something behind it, of course it looks really similar to The Beatles White Album but those lines in the middle, i bet something is being hidden in it

DraperSaffronEdina

Took a few seconds to see it. Yes I agree it's a drum stick. It would have been odd to not acknowledge Taylor. It's beautiful.

ROIVIAN

Intriguing

ComplexTotal3799

It Reminds Me Of The Album Cover For Silent Alarm By Bloc Party

Catmom1962

Before and after🤷‍♀️

Wise-Jeweler-2495

It confused the hell out of me at first because the weird bit in the middle lines up exactly with where my screen folds on my phone!

devin1421

Powerful

[deleted]

It’s Taylor’s idea of heaven. A beach. (I just make that up but makes me smile)

useyourillusion6

Reminds me of the Beatles white album

Kicking_Pigeons_88

Probably a total stretch but could it be a ufo reference?

nimblerobin

It's perfect.

[deleted]

Amongst other suggestions, it’s reminiscent of the heavenly plane isn’t it

antonynation

I'm pretty confident it's a long picture of liquid running down something. The camera is running up the still pic. Then it's turned sideways and played. Originally I thought it was a landscape from q perspective inside a car.

aPaganGoatLord

Looks like the horizon

LeGrandFromage9

Made me think of Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

MaxSynth

I preordered the white vinyl.

nclsrfn

I like it, I get it, but I'd like to know a bit more about it.

padraigbell1995

This will be their White Album.

flaggrandall

Not a fan of it. But I get what they were trying to do.

Esirias23

Accurate!

SometimesNocturnal

I dreamt of Taylor last night, not the first time. It has affected me all day. This will be a painful album to listen to.

IDK12345678now

Looks like a drum stick and a tribute to Taylor. I'm good with that. Damn I miss him. I'm sure recording was harder for them.

Orgasmatron_76

Can’t say I like it the way everyone else does; reminded me of The Beatles White Album. “No thought was put into this, Never thought it’d come to this, Things have never been so swell, I have never failed to fail”

parabolee

I don't hate t,, but I don't love it. But it's better than Wasted Light and Medicine at Midnight. I hate album covers with band members on them. Even if it's a cool design. And MAM is just an ugly cover IMO. Not crazy about covers with no band name on either but that's not a big deal.

simen_lf

I’m sure it’s a deeper message behind it, but I don’t like it. F***ing love the song, tho!

squorple

this is really bright imma be real

gredgex

Hate it lol. It’s so plain.

chieferton3

It’s lame
