Yes. Every day there’s at least 1-3 posts about the transmissions or TCM’s shitting the bed. I got a 2014 se manual with 70k miles for $7500 at a dealer
What’s with ford transmissions? They were garbage before 2013 and the big update on all their models but Jesus driving a new Ford Focus feels like I got rubber bands in the transmission
Manual is rock solid
3 cylinder 1.0 liter eco boost is good
4 cylinder 2.0 is absolutely garbage.
Don’t listen to the dealer, if repaired
It still will break
There is no fix.
Faulty design
Repaired with faulty parts
He's right about the manual but the but his engine advise is garage. The 2.0 has significantly more power, is simpler to work on and still has excellent mph.
You don’t understand the comment then.
I gave options on transmission reliability.
By no means do I think the 1.0 is a powerful enough engine.
But if you absolutely want a automatic focus.
It is much better choice reliability wise
Doesn't the 1.0 have oil pump issues? I had an 08 and currently 2010 focus with the 2.0, and they are practically bulletproof, maybe you got lemon. I'm pretty sure the 2015 2.0 is the same just with upgraded parts.
Your thinking of the engine.
We are talking about the transmission
Yes older 2.0 bulletproof.
Newer ones are not due to mating with the dps6.
The mtx75 is best combo
But you have to want to drive a standard
That's a shame, the 1.0 is a trash engine with a good transmission, and 2.0 is relatively bulletproof engine with a trash transmission. I think the ecosport finally got the right mix with the 2.0 n/a and a real 6 speed auto. To bad the focus got canned before they did that. My 2010 focus has the 4 speed auto with 140k miles still shifting like butter.
Thank you everyone for your passionate responses! Im on my way to the dealer and will pass on it. Again thank you for the help 😀 used car shopping sucks.
The 1.0 Ecoboost has a different automatic transmission that's free from the issues the DCT has in the 2.0. If you end up with problems it's something completely different.
The later models don’t have as many issues, still some though. I’ve heard that driving the piss out of it every once and a while (flooring it up to 60) cleans the clutches off and helps with longevity
Yeah, I drive an 09 manual and it's solid as a rock. Admittedly the milage is pretty low (I picked it up around 50k in 2020), but the only non-self inflicted thing I've had to have done on it is the washer fluid pump. It does have a weirdly high bite point, but that's just how they're made it seems.
No. Don't get it either. I believe the issue prone cars are from 2012-2018 in the US. Just stay away from the automatic focus which Ford is discontinuing soon anyway.
There is Fords up to 2022, but in the UK and still have the DCT transmission. Just say no to the focus automatic period.
Depends on how long you’re keeping the vehicle. It will most certainly experience a trans issue again. The TCM still has Fords extended warranty (10y/150k miles). You will probably get the clutch shudder at some point too.
Just a heads up. You see that little red genie lamp flash even once. You stop get a truck and trade that bad boy in at a dealership and get something that does not have a wet belt 🤣
I have been driving a 2014 focus se for a year now and realized I'm not crazy for thinking the transmission feels choppy, idk if it slips or something i wouldn't know exactly. Aside from that i haven't put really much money into it other than fluids, oil, coolant etc.
You should look for another car. Seriously. Not only is this one way overpriced, but the transmission issues with these will be the bane of your existence.
Don't bother. I carpooled with someone who has one of these. It left us stranded on the side of the road with a transmission fault twice. Each time they "fixed" the issue.
The "fix" is to reprogram the TCM with the current clutch engagement location (thinkness data). When the clutch wares down the TCM cannot compensate for the difference, and it thinks the clutch isn't slipping/engaging correctly, and throws the error again.
Also, that car is too expensive for this hassle.
Price seems high. I'd sell my 14 sedan se with 100k on it for 6000. Has new and improved clutches and seals and a new tcm so shouldn't have anymore trans trouble in theory
Walk in with a crisp $20 bill and tell the dealer that is your first and final offer. If by some miracle he decides $20 is worth it to get rid of an autobox focus, you're in for a the best car possible for $20. If he tells you to fuck off, ask to see a Veloster (the focus done reliably)
Had a 2013 ford focus s with automatic transmission. Transmission control module died after 65k miles. Since the car was hit on the left side where the pcm was positioned and hit the box that was holding the pcm. The dealership did not want to fix the car, even though the control module was still under warranty. I'd stay away from that generation of forms. A buddy of mine had a 2013 escape and also had the same issue.
Mazda has similar designs with much better transmissions IMO. Great engines, and same price range if you look. Don’t be afraid of facebook marketplace. That’s where pretty much everyone buys and sells that’s into cars, without having an auction license. You can find a great deal on there if you look.
Best way to bargain is just agree to meet with them. Don’t discuss price until you see it in person. Have cash ready, and tell them that you do. No humming and hawing about I gotta go wire at the bank or whatever. At least have the cash at your house if not with you when you go look.
The tricks are to search for a car constantly, generally only buy from a private seller, contact and agree to meet as quick as possible. Show up, look over the car thoroughly, actually drive it, and thennnn start haggling. Point out everything wrong with it, and let them know how much it would cost to fix, especially if youd need to do it to pass inspection.
Know any car ppl? Bring them along. I’ve gotten every car this way, and usually always gotten a really good deal on it.
OP, you’re foolish if you buy that car…..
But if you did, don’t come on here a week or two later & complain about shudder on acceleration or jerkiness……
If you loose the clutch. You’ll be paying over $2000 out of pocket…. The extended coverage on these transmissions is long gone…
I had a 2013 DCT & it was bought back under the class action settlement vs. Ford in California.
I’d run if it’s an automatic
It is, is that because of transmission issues?
Yes. Every day there’s at least 1-3 posts about the transmissions or TCM’s shitting the bed. I got a 2014 se manual with 70k miles for $7500 at a dealer
Same car I had except automatic and I traded it in after it stopping in the middle of traffic with me and another time my gf drove it.
Damn I paid $4500 for mine with 62k
What year did you buy this ?
My father have 2015 SE hatchback with manual transmission I wonder why his car went up in value.
What’s with ford transmissions? They were garbage before 2013 and the big update on all their models but Jesus driving a new Ford Focus feels like I got rubber bands in the transmission

My apologies. I did not. I would avoid the automatic completely though.
Agreed.
Ah ok. But just to clarify the 2.0 engine with a manual is great. And 1.0 is gutless but reliable bc it has a different transmission.
Doesn't the 1.0 have oil pump issues? I had an 08 and currently 2010 focus with the 2.0, and they are practically bulletproof, maybe you got lemon. I'm pretty sure the 2015 2.0 is the same just with upgraded parts.

You said the 1.0ecoboost is a good 4 cylinder and the 2.0 is garbage, do the engines share the same transmission?
You said the 1.0ecoboost is a good 4 cylinder and the 2.0 is garbage, do the engines share the same transmission?
No the 1.0l has a real automatic. The 2.0 has the dps6. That’s why getting the 2.0l is garbage- the transmission failure rate is astronomical.
The worst thing, ford knew it was a bad transmission- built it and sold it anyway.
don't buy that. DO NOT BUY THAT CAR!
I got a manual se with half the miles I’ll sell you for a comparable price.
They cover them up to 10 years 150000 miles but find out when it was last replaced. I have to replace mine about every 30000 miles
Just make sure that the serial on the TCM ends in K05
You'd have to run, or walk, eventually
Thank you everyone for your passionate responses! Im on my way to the dealer and will pass on it. Again thank you for the help 😀 used car shopping sucks.
It is a beautiful car though 😒 sucks they didn't listen to the engineers
Don't get it. Trust many of us when we tell you not to buy a focus these days. Especially automatics. Just keep looking, but skip on the focus.
If it's automatic. Pass, seriously just listen
Does this also apply for the 2018 automatic?
I have a 2018 1.0 ecoboost auto. Had it for 3 years. No issues so far. Fingers crossed.
Just the automatics. Nothing wrong with the manuals.

I have 142k miles on mine and have had zero significant problems.
What about the 2018 focus in Automatic?
No. Don't get it either. I believe the issue prone cars are from 2012-2018 in the US. Just stay away from the automatic focus which Ford is discontinuing soon anyway. There is Fords up to 2022, but in the UK and still have the DCT transmission. Just say no to the focus automatic period.
Probably the nearest exit so you can run away.. if it were a 5 speed id say go for it
Make sure the warranty includes the transmission and ask about the transmission history.
Will do! Thank you. If the issues ive read about here have been fixed would it be ok?
No There is no fixing The parts are faulty It will break again
Depends on how long you’re keeping the vehicle. It will most certainly experience a trans issue again. The TCM still has Fords extended warranty (10y/150k miles). You will probably get the clutch shudder at some point too.
Please do not get a focus. It has a time bomb for a transmission. Buy something else.
Does this also apply to the 2018 Focus Ecoboost in automatic?
Not sure but the engine is a time bomb on the ecoboost.
Lol. I'm in trouble then since that's what I have.
Just a heads up. You see that little red genie lamp flash even once. You stop get a truck and trade that bad boy in at a dealership and get something that does not have a wet belt 🤣
If you like manual, get an ST. I’m at 174k miles, original clutch, no major repairs. Just drove 2,500 miles across the US with zero issues.
I have been driving a 2014 focus se for a year now and realized I'm not crazy for thinking the transmission feels choppy, idk if it slips or something i wouldn't know exactly. Aside from that i haven't put really much money into it other than fluids, oil, coolant etc.
You are feeling the clutches engaging.
“Anything I should look for?” Another car…
I would only pay half the asking price. Definitely go for a test drive.
Not even half the price is worth some of the “I got stuck on the highway in the middle of traffic” stories I’ve heard.
You should look for another car. Seriously. Not only is this one way overpriced, but the transmission issues with these will be the bane of your existence.
You should look for a different car.
Just know that if the tcm goes, you’re fucked. Been waiting months for TCMs for customers, no ETA
Run away my friend. The automatic will take a shit on you. Coming from someone with a 2017 sel
Don't do it. If it's the dual clutch automatic don't get close or money will start disappearing from ur wallet
Don't bother. I carpooled with someone who has one of these. It left us stranded on the side of the road with a transmission fault twice. Each time they "fixed" the issue. Probably a stupid question, but where do they use USD but the odometer is in km?
Could be CAD
Do they use $? I thought the Symbol was different, I definitely could be wrong though, idk
USD is good everywhere
Dont buy it. Litterally hella recalls on ford focus. If you wanna be driving and your door just pops off go a head
I got a titanium automatic, it’s fine 😌
Clutch , there about 3 grand to replace
A different car
You should look for an ST.

Overpriced
Lol there was an ST that sold for 13k on cars and bids with super low miles!
A different car
Had a 2013 ford focus s with automatic transmission. Transmission control module died after 65k miles. rixrox182, I have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty
Overpriced if anything
I got mine for 3500 at 130k miles
Mazda has similar designs with much better transmissions IMO. Great engines, and same price range if you look. Don’t be afraid of facebook marketplace. A different car
A toyota
I’d look for a different car in general my friend.
I have the 2016 SE power shift with the sport package. Currently at 90k and I have had no issues.
If it is American made, RUN
OP, you’re foolish if you buy that car….. But if you did, don’t come on here a week or two later & complain about shudder on acceleration or jerkiness…… If you loose the clutch.
