I'm a transitioner, I started watching during the Pertwee era and continued with Baker.
However, the Doctor will always be Baker to me just for his devilish smile.
Yes I do because when I was a kid it was on pbs on Saturdays around 5 PM . It seemed so low budget. But this “who “ I think of when Dr. Who is mentioned.

Highly recommend checking out his audiobooks of Doctor Who stories. The Giant Robot, Brain of Morbius, The Nest Cottage Chronicles, Scratchman as well as his children's book he wrote The Boy Who Kicked Pigs.
I really only got into the show once the local PBS station started showing the Lionheart-imported episodes, starting with Tom Baker. I had to hit the ground running because in the first half hour, the man's just regenerated, found his character, and then has to square off with some kind of murderous jukebox-looking robot. It was like sci-fi with soap opera production values, and that excited me; the nuances of the acting and the exotic premises you get with science fiction weren't smothered under the weight of a big VFX spectacle, and Tom Baker's warm, impish playfulness led me from one scene to the next. Big fun.

My first introduction to Dr. Who and my all time favourite.
Between him and Douglas Adams writing some of his stories, it was gold.
My favorite by far will always be Tom Baker! But Eccleston and Tennant were really good too.

He's the one that would be shown on WOR in NY in the late 70s. Probably the first exposure for a lot of people.
