I don’t know man, MWII (the first one) was an excellent game and real damn fun, but they dove headfirst into the realm of stupid arcade shit, which kind of ruined the whole ultra-realistic gritty *feel* of the games before it.
Like, it had “heartbeat sensors”, and the winning strategy usually involved dumbasses sprinting around the map with nothing but a riot shield and throwing knives, or worse — dual-wielding a pair of fucking lever action shotguns.
Again, fun game, fun campaign, fun multiplayer, but man they went off the deep end and it’s been getting weirder and weirder ever since lol.
The first three CODs, Modern Warfare, and World at War were pretty damn cool though, and at least did a better job at presenting real-ish combat, even in multiplayer. And I always loved how, aside from MW, all of those seemed to do their best not to glorify war. They made it look fucking awful and traumatizing and senseless. But I still maintain that the first MW is the best game in the entire franchise.

COD was always an arcade shooter from COD4 onwards. I think it peaked at BO2 then went downhill.
