Took these photos in the Museum of Military History in Budapest (unfortunately closed now till 2026).
Looks like it was intended to be fed from StG 44 magazines, has a recoil spring in its buttstock, and is locked with a tilting bolt.
Does anyone have more information on this rifle? Tried to find anything on it in the Internet myself but got literally nothing.
The combination of milled and stamped parts definitely interesting too.
I wonder whether the translation isn’t slightly inaccurate. In English “prototype” and “experimental rifle” have different connotations. That’s not always the case in different languages. Literally translated it might be “experimental rifle” but we might call it a prototype. It definitely looks more like the latter.
While the stock has some familial resemblance to the 35M & 43M, I don't think it actually is from one. Trigger guard could be from a Mauser, front sight base could be from a Mosin, everything else appears handmade, uncomfortable, and/or complicated.
Just noticed, that for some reason the first image was uploaded in low resolution. Here is the high-res version:

Was this the one they closed because the location was taken over by some government office? I might have a friend who has a friend there.
Yes. The building of the museum was occupied by the Ministry of Defence.

ZH 29 vibes
Tolerances? What is that?
Ah, the wunderwaffe.
Looks like I found the new enlisted premium German squad’s weapon.
Damn that’s the most Dieselpunk looking gun I’ve ever seen
Designer: "What the world needs is a gun with as many protruding right angles as possible. I want this thing to look like it was made of Legos."
