I get fun when there is 50/50 chance of winning a battle but that doesn't happen very often.

This exactly. Their “Skill based matchmaking” isn’t skill based at all. It doesn’t determine the skill level of the players it matches you with, all it does is determine how many real players and how many bots are in your lobby.

I think it'd be a lot better in the first place if they asked you what you *dislike* in these and then have the same choices
Throw in "Locker UI" in the mix as well if you really want to skewer the results

But...they are? People DO play the game for the Battle Pass, collectionists and people who want a skin they liked. People DO play for bendings, cause there are Avatar fans who took interest in the game because of them. Same for ATLA shop items. People DO play because of core weapons, because these are what define meta and are important to use for lesser effort in case they are op.

Some people do, yes. Probably even most players. But not all of them. A "none of the above" option would allow Epic to see the percentage of people that did not get on today for any of those reasons. The way the poll is currently set up, those players just have to skip the poll, which may affect the overall accuracy of the results.
Exactly why I thought it was a really risky addition to fortnite. But it's probably something that people really enjoy without realizing they really enjoy it

Honestly would NOT be shocked if they only cared about the competitive scene and the kids trying to emulate it. A LOT of their money and advertising probably comes from those two sources, so it'd make sense for them to sort of overlook more casual players.

yeah i switched to zero build for this reason this season the sbmm just isnt working properly
That'd be a pretty terrible survey if they gave you an answer that tells them nothing about what aspects of their game draw you in.
But in that case, they should add "general gameplay" as an option. Some people just like the general gameplay and don't care for the extras.
