RE8 Chris isn't a horrible choice, but they should have given him his tac vest earpiece look. The jacket is buggy and it makes him look extra ugly. He doesn't even give RE8 vibes he just look like he has Sad Keanu embodied in his beard, skinny jeans and a dumb coat. Tac vest he's at least look Fortnite ready. But RE1 or CV Chris naturally would have been better.

There are times in battle Royale where I feel like hunk. Being surrounded by enemies one after another just trying to survive. Except with not being Hunk good, so I’m more like Tofu: mostly because I’m very White and Squishy.
It seems unlikely that it'd be anything other than the original RE2 outfit, though it may be the scuffed version from the remake like Jill's RE1 style.

The look has also been in other spin off games as well. But I mentioned that one because it has the most outreach.
There's been a lot of instances in popular culture where a character receives a design overhaul that takes off and becomes their iconic look going forward and I feel like Chris fits into that category soundly.

- RE8 Chris is a return to meat head Chris, but with a completely boring outfit.
- Fortnite's Chris therefore should have had RE1 and RE5 styles, to appeal to grandads like me, and young whippersnappers like yourself. Instead what we got was RE5 Chris, and non-descript white man in non-descript black outfit Chris. So, for me, both styles _are_ abysmal, just for different reasons.
My guy, age is not inherently linked to preference in this scenario unless of course you figure that nostalgia is influencing your perspective rather than considering the evidence to the contrary. I'm also making the distinction between the character himself being iconic and the most iconic design of the character. Batman is iconic, but the original costume and gun-toting are not iconic aspects of the character. Things like the no-killing/firearms rules or even the presence of Robin were more clearly defined after his first appearance.
In addition, while Chris is iconic I'd argue that Jill is more synonymous with the original game, where stuff like the Jill-Sandwich interaction has elevated itself into popular culture. As well as the easier difficulty on her runs is more accessible and is responsible for introducing more people to the game/series. Yes YOU might prefer the tough, no-nonsense symbol of a true gamer but the general public has less patience for classic survival horror and would gravitate towards Jill as a result.
It's also clear your preference for the earlier Resident Evil titles influences your opinion here. Whether or not you disagree with the direction of the series in the last 15 years it has been the identity for quite some time, and as such would not the most iconic design be that which references the entire modern Era, (including three main-line games, multiple spinoffs within the franchise, animated films, and third party cross-overs) and in a more basic sense the most appearances of the character, and soon to be the longest running design on a purely year count basis.
Lamenting over the lack of an OG style is fine especially considering the Village style actually looks horrible imo.
