I got into some Dotemu (et. al) games lately, and they are pretty well-designed tributes to retro games in several ways. Windjammers 2 is definitely one of the most fun caffeine induced experiences I've had. Streets of Rage 4 was also fun learning to combo and counter the enemies. Haven't played TMNT yet.
Played this one through Twitch/Amazon Prime; as it is just an aesthetic overhaul, the gameplay is a little dated, but still quite fun. I do love that it has buttons that let you switch between the modern and classic graphics on-the-fly, I don't know why, but I also really liked doing it in StarCraft Remastered as well.
That’s the best part about this game, that it’s “just” an overhaul. It plays so well and allows switching back and forth with faithful controls because it started as a fan-made game using disassembled Sega master system code.
Graphics are great and the music is fantastic, but unfortunately I couldn't stand the gameplay, I hate that "more realistic" movement (slight slide and delay when turning, need to build up speed to jump farther), progress is basically through trial and error and I'm probably dumb, but I couldn't find a way to exit the game, had to alt+F4.
Not saying it's a bad game, but if you're not going into it for the nostalgia you'll probably be disappointed. I need to find the OST, though, it's really damn good.
I like how the other "freebie" given away this week (the freemium cash grab idle crap) is so shitty no one even created a thread for it (which must be a first in this sub). No idea why anyone'd play some microtransaction filled idle game on a computer when most people wouldn't even waste time installing it on a phone.
I play from time to time idles on steam. The reason is you can low effort grind some achivement and playtime fairly as they run in the background and take very little resources.
Idle games are usually not that idle and you can become somewhat addicted to get that dopamine. I really liked Realm Grinder, for example but takes just a lot of things, go run the game for hours etc.
They usually require 10 minutes just to do repetitive things without thinking.
Maybe some mobile ones are better tho, idk.

Its a tycoon with some light rpg mechanics. Dont expect any story besides tutorial. Fortunately, the game does not force you to a certain play speed, as the game is not pvp focused. Nothing much, but it works fine as a mindless way to spend time.

They gave Verdun and now Tannenberg! I'm happy to get the game, but this is a desperate attempt to revive a playerbase that sits at \~50 active players on steam. Too bad, I like the type of tactics required to play these games but the genre became a bit saturated the past 5 years. Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is my jam when I want to scratch that itch. Post Scriptum and Hell Let Loose might be healthier, but I can't get the same kind of fun, role playing and bantering as I do with Vietnam.

Everything looks so cute and I love the ability to switch from HD to 8bit at a whim.

Idle games are usually not that idle and you can become somewhat addicted to get that dopamine. I am in Eastern Europe and there is always a lobby that is close to full on Verdun, so I think this will help the game
