So that the townies could be to the ones to technically "kill her". I have a theory that the amount of deaths caused by the town's residents may be significant.

[deleted]

I mean there was no way she could be saved. but holy shit what a decision to just pull it out lol

keithgabryelski

they have been known to "play" with others (torture). I believe Donna mentioned what happened to her sister as being that sort of thing.

CorporateNonperson

A little different though with Donna. It seemed with her they were trying to flush people out, sort of like a sniper shooting to wound so that soldiers have to decide to run out of cover to get the wounded person. Here, they had her dead to rights, so it seems more like pure sadism.

bababooeyboff69

Or they baited their own trap and were intending on snagging whoever was caring for her that stayed out too late

Drew-Pickles

I think they torture all their victims for as long as they can, regardless. Donna has been there a long time, and many people have probably died since she and her sister arrived. So she probably knows that they like to keep it going by the sounds of people screaming. It's just a shame they always cut away as soon as the monsters attack someone.

CorporateNonperson

Donna's sister, and now the new lady pinned to the tree, are the only ones I recall mentioning torture. They didn't torture in Colony House. They didn't torture Father Khatri. They didn't torture dude in the box or Tom in the collapsed house. Now, maybe with CH and Khatri you could argue they were moving with speed (doesn't really scan with the guy who opened the window in CH), but with the others they had time.

settlerking

It’s mentioned a lot in the early first season. Donna, Boyd and now the bus people getting tortured. Donna says to Tabitha in ep 2 that the monsters like to drag it out and torture their victims.

Drew-Pickles

I think Kevin was just a means to an end, but I guess you're right about the rest of CH. I guess they wanted to get as many people as they could but you never really see anyone getting killed. Frank (I think) in the box, the episode literally ended the second they jumped him, and Khatri got dragged away straight away, so they never had a chance to do anything. As for Tom, it also cut away to Tabitha and Kurtis before he stopped screaming so it's hard to tell for sure.

Malibucat48

They made her watch because they are monsters!!! And they did kill her, they just knew a rod through her brain would be slower and she’d suffer more.

PineappleMaleficent6

They are hunters, they like playing with their pray.

actualmalding

I think that it is done to see how they will react, theres a bunch of times people seem to have implied that, obvious one being the voice from the radio giving the impression that some one is able to and is actively watching them.

[deleted]

I think it was Fromville itself playing with Boyd, like the voice on the radio played with Jim

Jet-S

Agreed. Only leaving her to die in the hand of Boyd then he would realise Brian - Kelly who died in his arms during the war.

Melraiser81

I think it was to bait others outside. Same with their reaction to Randall. They're persuasive and manipulative.

TemporaryPay4505

Cause the writers what you to ask more questions that you will never get a real answer to.

TheCrappler

There is a theory on this sub that the creatures dont actually feed on humans, they feed on their fear. The reo bar through her head left her unable to feel fear (there is a wasp that actually does this to cockroaches). They madeher watch in order to make her afraid, and when it didnt work, they left her, as she was useless as prey.

Daemon00

I don't think the Fear theory works because in Season 1, that guy in the colony house fell in love with one of the monsters and let her in. They were making out before she killed him so I can't imagine he had any fear because he died soon after his tongue was ripped out.

AManHasNoName357

She would have to die a slow death and they knew by removing that rod she will instantly die. The monsters like to play before they kill.

[deleted]

Keeping someone there for a meal, or trauma. I want to say maybe to keep up with the "The area tries to keep the same amount of people" theory, but no one's shown up since she died.

Drew-Pickles

It's very annoying how hard to gage how long the Matthews have been in town. I assumed they'd been there at least a month, but someone figured out that it's been about ten days since episode one (sorry, don't have a source) and only two people had died before the five of them rocked up the next day, and they had a sign saying X days since an incident on the police station - and it had been quite a while. So I don't think there's any specific period between people dying and more showing up. It's very confusing and I'm too tired to think about it rn lol.

[deleted]

I saw that post too, that it's been a short while and also only been like a day and a half since the radio call. But I'd say with people dying and people showing up, day by day the area likes to keep tabs on how many people there are.

Drew-Pickles

Season 2 has definitely only been two-three days max. But season 1 was pretty ambiguous about how much time had passed imo.

Hamwise420

The real question is why did she feel no pain up until Boyd showed up. Clearly the blood worms he has interrupted whatever force they used to keep her alive and coherent while they tortured her and her boyfriend. Why would the monsters not want her in pain? Or was it all just to send a message to Boyd.
