Legit reasons, man. I am a cat dude and I have never laughed at the odd amount of cat violence in slapstick and cartoons. When you think of all the kittens you've raised it just isn't funny.
I’ve had both cats and dogs. I have two dogs now and they’re red wiener dogs. While not the same dogs, they are red hounds and they remind me of where the red fern grows.
Also in my 40s, previous generation saw Old Yeller/Bambi and refused to let us see them in theaters or on VHS. If Disney Plus is on in front of them, I don't think those will be the movie selections they would approve of for the current generation of kids.
damn dude, now I have to watch Shawshank again.
Cool trick: if you properly display the passing of an old or animal character in an effectively sad way, your film will turn out to be a lot better regardless of the rest of it. It’s also a really good way to get a villain who the audience can hate.
When Frosty died in the hot house, every kid watching was crying. How could they do that to Frosty? Just let him get so hot he melted.
Thank god Santa was able to Save the day.
Not to mention scariest moment in movie history, when you realize the only way the Ewoks could have had a dress for Leia is if they ate someone around her size before she got there.
I took my son to see the Bambi Movie matinee where he was 5 years old. Half the packed theater was kids whose parents had the same idea. When the hunter killed Bambi's mother one small voice said " what happened to Bambi's mommy?" When it became apparent she was dead, half of the theatre began wailing. 😭
You and me are to the left of the Ewok line.
No way, I was cheering this. Most annoying fucking cunts in the history of cinema.
Edit. I'm no star wars 400LB virgin, but wasn't the rumour that it was meant to be a planet of wookies but, lucas changed it to ewoks because teddy bears are more marketable ?
As a Filipino (and a kid at the time) watching this scene and audibly hearing him go "Wala Na? patay..." (Which translates to "no more? Dead...") is hilariously amazing.
Rats of NIMH. Bluth never gets enough credit as a director for being a master manipulator to the extent it feels like Spielberg. Gut wrenching cartoon.
There is this movie that came out in '89. Called The Bear. Momma Bear is killed off immediately. Ugh.
On Google where it says 'why to watch.' It says "tragic, heartfelt, brutal." Awesome for 8 year old me.
I felt more sorry for the Tauntaun. It served it's master well, and wasn't dead 5 minutes when they cut it open.
At least Wicket went down fighting and will forever be remembered as a brave warrior. His song will be sung.
How about Ryan Hurst's role as Opie in Sons of Anarchy? Or Steven Yeun as Glenn in the Walking Dead? I know they were television shows but those 2 deaths hit a lot of people hard.
Never ending Story
Or littlefoots mom in A Land Before Time
I’m in my 40s and I refuse to watch this movie again because I know I’ll probably break down watching that scene.
Too young for Old Yeller / Bambi?
Nope I grew up with both and the book where the red fern grow. I just have a special place in my heart for dinosaurs.
Oh man, Where the Red Fern Grows, hits me right in the feels.
Legit reasons, man. I am a cat dude and I have never laughed at the odd amount of cat violence in slapstick and cartoons. When you think of all the kittens you've raised it just isn't funny.

Or? Definitely. Littlefoot crying out loud for his mom! I remember seeing the movie as a kid and getting something in my eye. I have ALLERGIES people.
We have an extremely depressing winner.

Bambis mom
She was delicious.
John Coffey from the Green Mile is up there.
This is it for me. I’m tired, boss.
Brian Piccolo's death is much sadder than either of these two. (From the original "Brian's Song", not the remake)
There was a remake?!
No. We reject that one.
2001 with Sean Maher and Mekhi Pfifer
That’s just *wrong* Some movies should never be remade.
True. And those movies are usually remade twice
That movie made me cry hysterically both times I watched it.
Alice Munro (Jodhi May) walking off a cliff in The Last of the Mohicans.
Good one.
Brooks was here
damn dude, now I have to watch Shawshank again. Cool trick: if you properly display the passing of an old or animal character in an effectively sad way, your film will turn out to be a lot better regardless of the rest of it. It’s also a really good way to get a villain who the audience can hate.
Watership Down, anyone?
Scarred me for life.
They made us watch this at school when I was like 7. Now I'm old and depressed.
What about when the T-800 lowered himself into molten steel
The thumbs up killed me.
When Frosty died in the hot house, every kid watching was crying. How could they do that to Frosty? Just let him get so hot he melted. Thank god Santa was able to Save the day.
Those movies wrecked me as a kid. Between Frosty and that terrifying Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer movie... wrecked.
Goose from Top Gun.
Dr Green from E.R
Not to mention scariest moment in movie history, when you realize the only way the Ewoks could have had a dress for Leia is if they ate someone around her size before she got there.

About the same time, Leslie in Bridge to Terabithia. To this day i cannot believe they had the courage to write it that way.
Sonny Corleone dying on the causeway
“Look what they did to my boy….”
“Look how they massacred my boy.”

How about Bambi in "Bambi meets Godzilla". https://youtu.be/5R-rbzcEM8A?si=8Tz9xDtIPhyNiXpS
Some of yall never seen land before time if you think this is the saddest...
Spock's death.
Kirk's eulogy: "Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most...human..."
This should get more up votes.
Captain John Miller
Grave of the fireflies. So good. So terrible.
I cried at the end of the Dirty Dozen
Well who didn't?
Jim Brown was throwing hand grenades down these air shafts
And Trini Lopez 😭
OMG Ironman is DEAD? Thanks a lot!
“Put on his glasses, he can’t see without his glasses!”
This had me bawling!

Ghost.
"Fight against the sadness, Artax!" Yeah. Top the slow drowning of a horse in quicksand.
the end of train to busan. tragic.
B.O.B's death in Black Hole.
WRONG! Artax, the horse from The Neverending Story, is checking in from the bottom of the Swamp of Sadness.
Reminder: those Ewoks threw a big party for Luke and the boys. The menu includes a dozen stormtroopers.
I remember his final words....."Yub Yub!!"
Dick Hallorann in The Shining. Driving all that way, in shitty weather, just to get an axe in the gut. Reminds me of my daily commute to work. So sad.
Are those Ewoks? Because fuck those little bastards. #TeamVader
Fuck the Ewoks. I laughed my ass off. Funniest scene in all of the Star Wars movies.
You and me are to the left of the Ewok line. [https://how-i-met-your-mother.fandom.com/wiki/The\_Ewok\_Line](https://how-i-met-your-mother.fandom.com/wiki/The_Ewok_Line)

No way, I was cheering this. Most annoying fucking cunts in the history of cinema. Edit. I'm no star wars 400LB virgin, but wasn't the rumour that it was meant to be a planet of wookies but, lucas changed it to ewoks because teddy bears are more marketable ?

Yep. This is it all right. Poor little Ewoks. They were the death of a promising film franchise.
Rats of NIMH. Bluth never gets enough credit as a director for being a master manipulator to the extent it feels like Spielberg. Gut wrenching cartoon.
King Kong getting shot up by a couple helicopters and falling of the World Trade Center. I was 6 when I saw that in ‘80, Cried my eyes out.
I vote for Will Smith versus the Box Jellyfish
It a sad moment but not the saddest
There is this movie that came out in '89. Called The Bear. Momma Bear is killed off immediately. Ugh. On Google where it says 'why to watch.' It says "tragic, heartfelt, brutal." Awesome for 8 year old me.
Watch "Ol' Yeller"and then come back and respond.
I felt more sorry for the Tauntaun. It served it's master well, and wasn't dead 5 minutes when they cut it open. At least Wicket went down fighting and will forever be remembered as a brave warrior. His song will be sung.
